D3 Special Event

Have a few questions regarding The Darkening of Tristram event:

  1. As soon as I kill the Dark Lord and a short video clip is shown it means I have “completed” the event, is that correct? Also once complete I can not go back and find more monsters to kill (just like the GRs), unlike the NRs where even after I kill the monsters I can still go around and kill more even after slaying the guardian?

  2. I didn’t read the tutorials before running it (noob mistake!) so I completed (killed the dark lord) with my “regular” seasonal barb which is now way past Lvl 70, if I am to start with a new Seasonal/non-seasonal character and finish the game would I still be eligible to get the Butcher pet? Kinda wanted to give DH or Wizard (never played those before) a try and thought this could be a motivation but otherwise too lazy to start another one given S28 might be coming soon in Feb from what I understand. Do I have to get a non-seasonal to start fresh to get the pet if I previously completed using a Seasonal character?

  1. You might need several runs through the Labirynth to kill all specified elites.
  2. Just create a new lvl 1 toon (seasonal or not, does not matter) and go and kill the dark Lord. If you have friends online, make sure to set your status to “unavailable” or at least “busy”, so noone joins your game (otherwise you will have to start again from lvl 1)

Thanks for your quick reply! For Q1 I am still a little confused…just to clarify, what I would like to know is after I kill Dark Lord would I be able to continue kill other monsters or it would be just dead body all around the place but no alive monster to kill? (Like what happened after you killed the GR Guardian?)

You have to leave and restart game. That way you can do it over and over.

The demon portrait (kill all named elites) took me many tries. Then I used google to find what floors they spawn on for my missing ones. After that it was easy.

I did the same. When I had 4 monsters left, I looked them up to see what level they spawned. It took me 4 more tries to kill them all. Ironically, luckily, I got one of the 4 each time. It took me a total of 5 times.

I went back with each one of my characters just for the fun of it and to get more diablo gems. I may never level them, but I like having them.

I wish I am that organized as you! :slight_smile: I just finished playing with my newly created DH and got the Butcher pet, and then I realized I have no idea which monsters I killed and which ones I have not…would be nice if D3 could somehow give us a tally in the event (unless there is one but I just don’t know…)

Check your Achievements → General → Special events. There’s a lits of elites to kill somewhere

How do you get so much space to store all the gems? I really tried to minimize my number of gears/gems but yet with only 7 tabs the space gets used up quickly (I am only keeping ancient and primal now). And for S27, I can’t master the set dungeon (using WW Barb and for the life of me I can’t get rend to kill 10 monsters in one shot) so no chance to get another slot this season either…

Here is an excerpt from my Darkening Guide. (The numbers in parenthesis are the Cathedral Levels you’ll find the specific Elites on):

Simple answer. Do the Immortal king dungeon. It should be easy to get the stuff needed for the build just by playing Barb.
(Kudos to Meteorblade).

(And you can find youtube or maxroll guides for the set dungeons).

Wow you are my hero!

Wow you are my hero as well! Got it working the second try! Now just need to complete 2 conquests and I might get an extra slot!

What are the easiest conquests to do? Just want to get those ASAP since I am literally running out of space in my stash! :slight_smile:

UPDATE

Tried The Thrill and that was super-easy with the LoD HOTA, tried Boss Mode and I missed Azmodan and still didn’t finish within the timeline for the last two bosses (Araneae and Skeleton King - I played from Act V backwards)…20 minutes is TIGHT!

I am now thinking of doing Avarice, according to Maxroll it says I need 31 T16 bounty cache, but the one that pockets the most gold is Act V cache and even only gives 800k/cache which means I need almost 60 of them? Am I missing anything here?

I am in constant stash management mode. I collect a bunch of stuff, but I end up zapping most of it at the blacksmith.

Avarice is pretty easy for WW/Rend Barb. T13 Not the Cow Level with Emerald in helm, Leoric’s crown in Cube, level 50 Hoarder in Kymbo amulet and give Goldskin to Follower. That should be all you need.

From another source:
57 caches (or 12 complete bounty runs) on Torment VIII;
46 caches (or 10 complete bounty runs) on Torment XI;
43 caches (or 9 complete bounty runs) on Torment XIII;
31 caches (or 7 complete bounty runs) on Torment XVI;
(seven complete runs will also mean more than 31 caches by the way)

In case you dont know, the cow level, mentioned above, is reached by transmuting a bovine bardiche in the cube (like when you get to the vault by transmuting a puzzle ring - remember to make the ring ancient by an angelic crucible first)

wow, thanks, spent an hour to level up my Horder to Lvl 50 and used my last Ancient Legendary Bovine Bardiche in the cache to get to the cow level at T16, easily got to 200mm gold! I was originally thinking you must be getting gold continuously but turns out you can have a few seconds of break without getting any gold before the counter disappear. This is amazing and definitely a LOT faster than doing bounty cache! Thanks so much to this forum, I originally gave up the hope to complete the season but now I am enjoying my extra storage space and the new portraits.

It doesn’t take that long to do the whole thing with a fresh level 1 character so I would go for it.

But then again, other than 2018 when I didn’t play D3 all year I have done every single one with a newly created Barb using either no spells or something very close to a normal attack (bash or cleave pretty much) and no duel wielding so I can get that sweet nostalgia hit of Diablo 1 Warrior. Would have done DH and Wizard as well but they just don’t feel close enough to Rogue/Sorcerer. The only time I have ever played with anything other than that was season 25 for the soul shards and the achievement.

So maybe my idea of how long it takes is skewed.
