I don’t really understand the mentality that aspects of the game that nobody liked should remain the same for the sake of some weird right of passage.
Nobody liked that system, people complained about it in droves back then too. Seems the years make people forget that they hated to too…so please, stop acting like that is something you liked about the game and that you weren’t crying about it just like everyone else was back then.
You already have to fight RNG on drops, having to also deal with loot robbers is a pain that nobody likes to deal with.
My personal thoughts on it…open loot or personal loot, I would prefer personal but I will play it either way because I love the game and the franchise.

I recall this too. I know that I complained about FFA loot back 20 years ago. Even David Brevik when asked what he would change in D2 with the clarity of hindsight said that there were 3 things:
- Instanced/personal loot instead of FFA loot
- Auto-gold pickup
- Eliminate stamina bar
After the D2R announcement, David said it makes sense to keep FFA loot in D2R because the game had been that way for 20 years, but that Blizzard could introduce a instanced/personal loot option.
Intellectually, in a good versus evil world, it does not make sense that we are competing against each other to get loot. In the Lord of the Rings, did Legolas stop attacking so he could grab a wand drop? Did Gandalf stop attacking so he could grab a 2 handed battle axe?

Well the people who liked/and still like it are the pickit users and D2jsp RMT sellers. “Don’t take away my precious cheat tools wahhhhhh” is probably how they sound like before entering a “Personal Loot” thread.

Keep in mind, that most of the loot that drops will still be vendor trash, so the amount of actual usable loot that will enter the economy will be minor. Probably be less then currently exists with all the bots out there farming.

Theres Issues with BOTH forms of loot.
Instanced Loot:
Players can do nothing and get free loot
Global Loot:
Players that do nothing can get ALL the loot while the ones that did work, get nothing.
I’m more for instanced loot as at least as a player you GET a chance at some loot and the last 10% of a fight doesn’t take ages as no want wants to do damage and instead spam click around the boss.

Scale of contribution, similar to how magic find/item quality works. Each person gets at least 1 item, but how good it is depends on what they did. Naturally, this only applies to monster drops, not chests and others.
For example, if Player A does 85% damage, they get a +9 (whatever) on the weight system to get a good item; Player B who did 15% gets a +2, and Players C and D who each did 0% get the usual.
However, that system is unfair to support characters who may be purposefully not dealing damage but keeping those who do up, buffed, and such so considerations may need to be made and that makes it much more complex.
Instanced loot is where I’m at.
personal loot and limit trading (for instance in same clan only or friends list only) that way get rid of botters dirty pickitters and ppl who uses the game to earn $$$ d2r shud be fun and enjoyable like d3 not competive where everything is life and death as old d2

Man, this game will be such a fail, cant wait.
People will play the game in groups, finally after a month they’ll see first leg drop OOHH COOL lemme grab it… OH ITS GONE?! No personal loot? Oh ok I will be faster next time!
Another month or two of spamming the one skill that does any damage, running the same 4-5 bosses (much fun) goes by, second leg drops in a multiplayer game LEMME BE REAL FAST THIS TIM…WHAT THE F?! ITS GONE ALREADY? Wait, what did u say? Whats ‘pickit’? OHHHH you are kidding me right? BLIZZARD I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!

Yup. Like was mentioned way earlier, this was a major issue back then with lots of players calling it out online. As 20 years have passed and much more fair ways of distributing rewards have come into play, if it is ot implemented, the online presence will be far less than it was previously.
The inclusion of it as mandatory or at the very least, as an option, would, IMO, as someone who may have been interested in giving it a go online, would be a huge check in the positive column to buy. Since my wife has no interest in playing, I have no reason to revisit the game. But there are far more like me, who would venture online if we all had a fair shot at loot.

the purists should all get isp banned stay on old d2 with ur bots and pickits and leave d2r to the clean players with private loot

Personally im a fan of Instanced loot just for the sole reason it at least lets me get some loot that drops and fights dont drag on being a spam click fest. Id say, Have it both ways.
Players can “set” their option to be instanced or global. And the loot drops are adjusted to give instanced players 1 or 2 loot drops and people set to global will see the entire remaining pool of drops.
Either it can be a player by player setting or it can be a server setting done by the “host” of the server.

This isn’t D3 bro you want personal loot go play that game. D2 is all about fighting for the loot in pubs. You can make friends and hunt together and split loot.

It is hard to fight for loot in pubs when there is cheating (pickit users and bots). Although this should be reduced in D2R, the facts is other Blizzard games still have these problems on modern battlenet.
If you were to give the playerbase a personal loot option, you can play your way while others can play there way for thier entertainment.
