Ahh good, another 0% detail, 100% emotion “D2 is perfect” argument. Thanks, we were lacking in those.

I wonder if you realize that D2 (2000) is unaffected by any change made in D2R. No one is advocating that Blizzard “dirty up” D2 (2000) with a loot option.
D2R =/= D2

I am in favor of personal loot. No personal loot, no purchase of d2r for me. It’s that simple.
And i’m sure it’s also that simple for a lot of other players. I’m tired of having a competition against a computer that’ll click the item same tick it shows up.
I’m tired of playing melee just to have a chance at getting loot. Enough is enough, if you want PURE d2. It’s available, it’s been available for a long time and it will still be available after the release of D2R.

well that is truly sad you will be missed
I worry about this too. In D3 with modern battlenet, botting is still an issue. I fear that we will get the same problem where bots will be programmed in multiplayer games to grab the best loot that is faster than human reaction times.

Bots don’t join existing games, they make their own. Don’t join them and play with them.

That, is excactly what’s going to happen. First it’ll be a few, then it’ll be more, then it’ll be many. There’s just no reason at all to even entice the use of hacks when it can be solved with an optional option for people.

I dont know if this has been discussed yet, but a solution about personnal loots would be :
In boss zones, personnal loot is deactivated. In other zones, personnal loot is activated.
This would please both sides, it would also make Magic Runs in hell more of a thing instead of only having Baal runs and stuff. (diversifies the game a bit)
Let me know what you think about that idea.
Cheers
Sorry. No. Either an option to toggle personal loot at game creation or fully complete personal loot.

been playing d2 season again and man, those pickit hacks are every where. with FFA loot, only the bots (they run in packs of 2-7 now) gets the loot. also, it’s not fun holding down space bar all the time in hopes of clicking first rather than focusing on playing (like in d3).
basically, FFA loot in D2 is a form of pvp where you fight for loot in a co-op game. which sucks big time. i really don’t think PL will break the game, no it might just make it alot better. leechers? who cares, there has been leechers since d2 launched so nothing will really change. blah.

Yup. Been my whole point. You join co-op to defeat a PvE boss, then all of a sudden you are in a PvP competition to click loots faster than they can. It make no sense and is not fundamental to the game. Even David Brevik believes so.

Yes, it’s rose-coloured-glasses sentimentalism that I believe drives most purists posts about “not changing anything” with D2.
A nearly perfect game, but with flaws that can be fixed, and fairly easily at that, and some of which Blizzard is already fixing in D2:R.

That’s the other thing. It’s a flawed game. Fix it where it realistically can be. The whole famous bugs, exploits, and opness of certain builds needs to stay is meh too. But the easiest thing they can do that will impact no one but griefers, bots/bot users and rm sellers is fix the shared loot.

This is a legit concern but then again I would expect ebay and other sites to start selling items just like the old days and that is against the ToS. I think personal loot is implied as auto gold pickup would be a bit unfair to anyone who didnt choose to enable it. Considering the fun of D2 was what happened after you were near max geared (dueling, ganking, hunting for better rolls, etc) I am not sure loot inflation will be that bad a thing.
Why do you think total item drops would be 8X?
In D2 currently for a multiplayer game, there are X total item drops and Y players.
In a peronal loot game, there would be X/Y item drops per player. Since there are Y players, the total item drops is X. This is exactly the same as D2.
X = X/Y * Y
e.g.
200 = 200/8 * 8
If you want to discuss how D2R economy can be affected, it will be since D2R will be on the new battlenet where botting is reduced and duping hopefully eliminated.

All they were saying is in an 8 player game the drops if it is personal would be 8x more than it used to be. Now if each of those 8 players played in a solo game in the original version then yes the drops would be the same be it personal or shared. In essence they would be mitigating the reason to play solo for the most part by adding in personal loot. I do not see that as a bad thing.
But that is wrong or a misunderstanding.
FFA game has Y total drops and X players.
Global loot game has Y/X drops for each player and X players. The total drops Y remain the same.
In a personal loot multiplayer game, each player would see less drops on the ground in comparison to global loot game. In an 8 player game, it would on average by 1/8. If anything, it would result in the same or less items in the economy.

It be the same amount of items, personal loot doesnt say it increases droprates.
Its just that the items that drops are randomly given to someone in the party. Rather than being free for all to pick the item it be locked for one person to pick a item.
