Cyberpunk 2077 releases in a few days and it’s going to break every Twitch record for a new game. Twitch is going to burn with Cyberpunk fuel.
What comes in a few days is only the single player version of the game. The multiplayer version, Cyberpunk Online, is Diablo 4 biggest competitor.
Cyberpunk Online releases in 2022. If Diablo 4 hasn’t launched and build up a solid player base until 2022, it risks being forgotten very soon due to everyone jumping on the online version of Cyberpunk.
No matter how polished is Diablo 4, it has to capitalize on what it is in 2021. Cyberpunk Online marks his deadline and any delay in Diablo 4 production would be crucial for the franchise.
Anyone who thinks I am overrating Cyberpunk will change his mind very soon.
ARPG players love to grind. There will be much to grind in the multiplayer Cyberpunk version for sure and while the core aRPG players will stay in Diablo 4, I am not so sure about the rest…
We’ll see very soon whether streamers and players that enjoy RPGs have fun with Cyberpunk. Don’t forget that any of the Diablo mechanics could be put in the Cyberpunk world if that’s their developer’s decision.
Night City vs the Demon world - both settings are very good.
Yes, I don’t regret I never touched D3 after Season 5. This game never left the beta stage.
It’s not an ARPG like Diablo. Cyberpunk 2077 is a story driven RPG and Cyberpunk Online is effectively just multiplayer extension of it. Why would either have any impact on D4 development or release timeline?
You should compare games that are more closely related. For example Borderlands franchise, BL3 was released over a year ago and has had zero impact on D4 despite being an actual loot hunting ARPG.
Imo, the biggest threat to Diablo 4 would be releasing the game unpolished, bug ridden, lacking of content, and/or broken; something which either one of these is bound to happen if Blizzard rushes to release Diablo 4 early, and releasing Diablo 4 in such a state would hurt the game more so than a potential delay would.
