After trying just about every suggestion, windowed mode, running as admin, updating display drivers, disabling either on board or dedicated graphics, clearing out parts of the data file and repairing, running the game directly instead of the launcher, upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I finally have a solution that allows me to open the game …
Booting into safe mode with either minimal or Network will at least allow the game to load before it yells about being connected to battlenet (not sure why safe mode with networking didn’t work) …
Mind you just on the Diablo 2 splash screen I’m maxing one of my cores and close to 4 gigs of RAM, I saw a suggestion saying that it could be related to the game maxing out the graphics card ram too quickly and crashing going to look into how to limit it at the command line if there is even such a thing
I’m also going to try and selectively enable/disable services to get it to boot normally to see if that’s viable
