Blizzard should be up front before release

They know to keep everything authentic at launch. They don’t know the future.

That is my view.

Even if they do(which I think they don’t), better keep this ambiguous to attract more people to buy. They gain more than loss through ambiguity.

Ahh… you mean Eastern Sun? yeah that and all the initial Median XL’s by brotherlaz, actually the very first Median XL’s (I believe the Omega versions iirc?) got me hooked into modding the game myself since I was a kid. I haven’t released any stuff yet personally, but I hope to, as well as release mods for D2:R in the near future.

EDIT: Correction, I started playing median xl since version 1.99~1.99c, so about 2 years before Omega. I liked Omega a lot though!

They may not know the future but they should know how bad people are going to tear at their throats if they wreck d2’s balance with constant updates.

I think that community response is going to play the biggest role. That, and console support. They are not going to want features on console that PC doesn’t have (such as controller support and dodge roll that Diablo 3 had). Safe bet was to remaster 1.14, then go from there. They have mentioned mods a lot though: Gave props to mods keeping the game alive, that last interview that talked about looking to the hardcore players that played the mods, even the callout before Alpha where our community watcher posted somewhere about streamers contact information in their youtubes/twitch profiles, whether they played bnet, Path of Diablo, or PD2.

That only reflects a portion of player base. Likewise other people who want change can do the same thing.

And, future depends on player feedback, so they won’t make a change without community support. For future, no support, no change. That is my view about future.

Yeah, Eastern Sun. So far, I’ve only played Succulent (by fearedbliss), Plugy, and PD2 (like I said, two night test to see the hub bub about charm inventories and corruption).

Yeah I get things may need to change as far as console goes, and even if their answer to that is stackable gems, charm inventory, etc, I think the intense community will get over that part. Those mechanics aren’t make or break.

Adding runewords, uniques, making iconic items obsolete again, failing to recognize mistakes of the past 1.09 to 1.10, will be enough to sour me on Blizzard games from here on out.

If a company can’t preserve balance on a 20 year old remaster, I have no hope for d4. They will power creep destroy that game too.

For example, half a year after launch, they do an in game survey asking if players want a new expansion and if 90% people say yes, I won’t be surprised if they go ahead and implement that and charge $19.99 for the new expansion with a ton of changes and put that in new server.

I doubt that any major new items to add power creep. I don’t think they would add THAT much new content again. If they balance the game, it’ll be a 1-2 patch thing, then that is it other than minor things. Even if they plan on patching the game, it’ll be over the first year then maintenance mode unless they decide on themed seasons, but I don’t see anything major coming from them.

An expansion would be terrific.

Adding 6 socket shields to the standard version would not be.

I hope Blizzard understands the difference.

Themed seasons are a major change.

The survey asking about item balance changes concerns me, and I hope they were asking in the context of an optional expansion, not a paintover patch.

I just do not see them adding much to D2. I believe it is meant as a stop gap until D4 comes out and they will not want to invest much time and money into building upon what they release in D2R.

I hope you’re right. Painting over iconic affixes in rares and magical items, along with uniques, runewords, would be a massive mistake.

6 socket shield won’t come. New players don’t care. Old player don’t want.

Such thing can only happen as a major change patches on new realm.

I agree 1000% on Blizzards reactions within the Community 3 too None!!

It would seem how ever that they’re Looking to add More content to the game which could be as an Xpack. The reason I say this is they already had a workup for a 3rd Xpack for D2 that never came to fruition. (@ the same time the community is divided on adding to the game & keeping it what it’s)
With that as well as Most all Blizzard games get continued support for many years after launch. But this all comes back around to them not being open with information Week after week, No communicator or engagement/interactions within the community a Team leader or Mods dropping new info, Only Silence …

This is why I have no belief in them doing another expansion. Maybe a separate fork, but no expansion. Addressing balance complaints, a few new features, a new event or two, but that is about it. If I really had to venture a guess with them looking at the mods, I’d say something similar to the corruptions might be possible…call it Horadric Imbued or something.

Yeah as long as it was a new realm they could add the corruption system.

I think it’s terrible, but if I’m not forced into it I don’t care how other people play.

Very true. While I want no changes, or an untouched version, I atleast want to know what I can expect.

Only issue there - they might not know themselves by now or even by release.

You speak only for yourself. That’s is not what I think.

YOu do not like the changes fine, but can you rationalized what others do? You act like you are the authority of truth.
