Black Mushroom Spawn Rate Changed?

I know RNG is what it is; however, ever since the Altar of Rite’s inception, I’ve noticed the Black Mushroom being harder to get. Whereas I could, readily, get it in a few runs, after the altar, it appears that the spawn rate has dropped. I know they increased the Drop Rate for The Gemstone of Gibberish (and even the Rainbow’s Liquid seems easier to obtain).

Is it possible that because they’ve increased the Drop Rates for some items that they might’ve scaled it back, a bit, for others? Just wondering.

The drop rate hasn’t changed, this morning I had all the comps in less than 45 minutes in normal mode, with 24 paragons.

(I did it for fun in “classic” mode in softcore)

Edit: my poor toon in “classic” sofcore

Wow! That’s impressive! Typically, I leave it until the end.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Impressive, not sure, I just did that.
I got the plan in the first fight against Izual, after that it was more or less long (stupid Leoric’s Shinbone)

I found it in a couple of runs on both SSF and SC this season, and then again in a few runs when I helped a friend. Probably just RNG.

I run all of the staff of herding mats at the same time, as in, open game and check all locations for rainbow, mushrooms, leorics fireplace, chilltara, izual. Reset game, repeat. Usually after like 5 resets or so I only have gemstone left (note I do go and look for the myseterious chest event even if bounty isn’t there, but probably only worth if you have a very fast build). idk if it’s the fastest way to do it, but I prefer to zoom through areas looking for stuff over playing menu simulator to spawn a specific bounty.

The altar node is one of the last ones, so if you just check every time you open a new game (after you got your speed T16 going), you have a good chance of getting it for “free” without even having to farm at all. Again not sure if it’s the fastest, but it cuts down on menu simulator.

It hasn’t changed as far as I know. It spawns in Cathedral level 1 at Act 1, in case you were checking other levels in the Cathedral; because I got stuck once just like you to realize I’ve been farming fourth level.

I thought Mysterious Cave to find Rainbow had a very low spawn rate as well, then I found out that game could generate two alcoves that look perfectly similar to the event in Dahlgur Oasis. The one by the middle of the desert and second could spawn closer to the entrance to the area. I only have been checking the middle one then leaving.
It’s odd that a few years ago we had forums filled with complaints about Gibbering Gemstone. Now since drop rates are improved, people question other ingredients for the Staff of Herding.

I had finished Season 33 and the Altar with a SSF Demon Hunter. I felt very lucky to have easily found all the components for the Staff of Herding. I was also lucky, this Season, to have found enough Primal items to unlock the 3 Potion Powers and upgrade my Yang’s Recurve to Primal.

I decided to play through the Season again on the same Region. So, I created a Seasonal Demon Hunter. (Not SSF).

Again, I had an easy time unlocking the Seals on the Altar…   until I reached Seal #25, Staff of Herding. I found everything except the Black Mushroom.

I spent 4 hours today running Act I, Cathedral Level 1 back-to-back. Out of all those runs I ended up with two of those maps with the correct room, but no Black Mushroom.

I finally got frustrated and switched to Campaign Mode. It only took a couple of minutes to reach Cathedral Level 1, but still no Mushroom. I left the Game and clicked to resume. I took the Portal that was waiting for me in town back to the Cathedral. It placed me at the entrance to Level 2, so I backtracked through Level 1.

I no sooner rounded the corner when I found the correct room. Still not getting my hopes up, I entered the room. To my surprise, I discovered the Mushroom Patch.

Found 2 mushrooms so far in ssf hc. Of course the 1st one went towards a staff of herding that has been sacrificed.

I must admit, the mushroom took far longer than it ever did in prior seasons to find for me. But the Gibbering still was the last one that I found.

Every time I played I would hunt for the parts for the staff. It was only a couple weeks ago that I was finally able to complete it.

Much longer than it normally has taken me, but then again RnG is a fickle beast.

I take advantage of the thread to know if it is possible to drop the Staff Of Herding plan twice (on the same mode).

Maybe without learning it from the blacksmith, or put the first one in the inventory of another character (of the same mode of course)?
Does anyone have an idea?

Edit: I found a second plan. The first one was of course not taught to the blacksmith and was on another character (I don’t know if the 2nd point plays a role or not).

Edit2: next step, try to find a third one, with one in the chest and another in the inventory.

The final step will be to make a video of the inventory

I only can give you a theory and a way to test it. If I remember right, when you put a crafting recipe that you can acquire from Horadric Caches in your stash and collect more Caches to open them, you won’t find a replicate among the recipes you gather. If you found a Captain Crimson’s Set recipe and toss it in your stash, the chances are you won’t find another Crimson’s recipe from Caches.
I can only theorize that same would apply to Staff of Herding recipe; game would check if your inventory has it after rolling a success for it.

Wouldn’t it be easier to test with the recipes you buy from Squirt in Act II?

I’m not sure I understood if your comment was addressed to me

What recipes are you referring to?

You can buy those over and over again, if you want.

  • Squirt’s Hellfire Designs are 5 mil each.
  • You can purchase multiple Designs from Squirt even if you’ve taught them to Shen.
  • If you’ve already taught them to Shen, look at the Designs at Squirt’s. It should say Already Known in red text. (Before you buy them again).

The Plans from Horadric Caches should be easier. But, you would have to play in a Game Mode where you haven’t already taught the Plans to Haedrig. You could stash them and continue running Bounties. If the Character you’re playing requires a crafted Set, just teach Haedrig that one and no others. See if continuing collecting Bounty Caches yields more of the same Plans.

If you do get duplicate Plans, teach some to Haedrig. Then check the same ones in your Stash to see if they are now marked Already Known. If you don’t get duplicates, chances are that just having them in your possession prevents it.

Or, instead of your Stash, you could give them to another Character and see if the game still considers you already having them.

I’d test this myself, but I’m not that curious about it.

Edit

Nice. Point made.

Ah ah, always good to have some “idiots” (Oops, it’s me this time) around, my next runs will be about that

Well, it’s never a bad thing to have information about how things work. I believe I can speak for the community in saying that we appreciate the time and effort you put into it.

Just a dumb question and challenge from my part to see how it went regarding the plan.

Might as well share it with the community.

I’m going to farm the plan again! :joy:

(And thanks for your words)

Got the third

To summarize:

  • The first: just by farming
  • The second : try to find another plan with the plan on the inventory on another toon
  • The third: with one on inventory and one chest
