The current D2 isn’t alive… many people have left. It’s overrun with bots and mainly pvpers. (I enjoy PvP, but I also like the multiplayer PvM aspect of the game too). The botting and lack of QoL updates have made people go to private servers.
Yes, it is alive. If it wasn’t they would’ve shut down the servers. Stop talking nonsense.
It’s not nonsense. Clearly we know it’s up and running, but I’m talking population wise. There’s a reason that mods like PD2 had a record of 15,000 or so people begin the new season there.
Same thing with WC3 (not reforged). Its main source of players was the custom games. Modding is a huge part of D2.
Purist never kept game alive. Modders did. Purist are tiny minority of D2 player base. Even most purist guy i know is playing game with plugy which is done by Modding.
Good point. Even Mr. Llama himself uses plugy for it’s QoL features.
And they are making some changes such as shared stash, bigger stash, auto gold. But that’s where most people will draw the line. I rather not see any more “improvements” because it can snowball to a very bad game. D2 is perfect with its imperfections. Many people hate the stamina but without the stamina you make the game easier and it’s slowly turning into a D3 clone. If you want an easy and player friendly game you already have it with D3.
This whole thread is anyway another ploot whine. Drium admited that he using maphacks and pickit in d2. His biggest fear if radical changes dont come to d2r then he can also forget ploot (aka free loot) cus d2r pretty sure gets better anticheat system than d2. And if that happens he never going to achive anything in d2r.
Its a good start, if they want game to survive longer, they need to start adding more content over time to keep more players involved.
Diablo 2 is far from perfect, for example skills are hughly flawed. Many skills bugged, not usable or waste of skill point to invest.
Many people hate stamina a because its pointless thing. Stamina is hell when you start and ignored on higher levels. It lacks of difficulty progression.
I want hard game but there is no point in keeping useless mechanics in the game. Just saying. Stamina should have more depth and should effect characters more on higher levels. I am ok with it to be pain in the (you know what) on normal. But then make it more important higher too. So either remove it or rework it.
Honestly, it sounds like you want to play a different game.
I think D3 does all the things you want.
Are you reacting to me? No thank you, i dont like d3 and its huge failure in my eyes as successor to D2.
I think you missed the memo where it stated that this is a REMASTER not REMAKE. Changing and balancing skills, adding bigger inventory and charm inventory, adding personal loot are all huge changes that will make this a remake. I am sure some mods will do that if you don’t like how the original game plays.
Kept modded version of D2 alive.
There corrected it for you.
Yet again people think they releasing a new game. They don’t.
The content you think of is called Diablo 3, that was the natural successor.
Apart from things like Ubers i don’t think there is anything to add do Diablo 2.
Yes, elements of RPG for current playerbase are horrible thing. They’d rather have everything handed over on a silver platter.
God forbid they introduce health potion that heal only for 95% of HP and not 100%.
People only want good and easy things in games without any downsides.
Diablo 2 has many different skills for many different builds some are odd and some considered useless but for solo play they all work quite well and that is what makes this game actually good.
Many games of today don’t allow anything that is diverse because nearly every game on the market is homogenized and streamlined one way or another.
i agree the toxic ‘purists’ and fan boys are the worst. I personally hate them too and every “refund” thread i am sure to chime in and say dont let the door hit you on the way out.
I personally enjoy seeing new people getting into the game, let them try new things and figure it out for themselves. As someone who has played diablo since the mid 90’s with diablo 1 i sometimes forget the small learning aspects i went thru at the beginning myself so its refreshing to see players living that experience 20 years later in a d2 remaster.
one thing i’ve noticed about entitled gamers these days is they are extremely toxic. Which is i think the major thing you mentioned in your post above, the toxicity of the ‘purists’. ignore them, ban them from your streams… w/e … dont let them stop you from enjoying the game.
Was i disappointed i didnt get into the alpha considering i have had at least 2 diablo games installed on every PC i own for the past 20-25 years? Absolutely. Was i mad enough to write the game off and refund? hell no.
I want core of D2 and some key that ngs not changed. I never supported personal loot, i dont want me. I am for smart changes which will affect gameplay in a good way. Fill the gaps where diablo 2 is bad. Yes, some people migh be shocked but diablo 2 has flaws. Its great game, but far from perfect and can be better.
Yes its remaster, but nowhere it is said there cannot be changes done. Some changes are already implemented.
I am ok with just QoL improvement for release. I except more after first battle net season or after 1 year.
That’s the problem. If they continue with the changes where and when does it stop? It will stop when the game becomes D3.2
You are just speculating. There is no proof that this is going to happen. You could have said the same thing before the auto gold pickup was added.
Some changes would be ok, some aren’t. So far I think I’m pretty happy with the dev’s approach on this.
Gamble toggle/ shared stash/ auto gold- These seem fine to me
What they don’t seem keen to change - Drop rates, certain bugs, skills, itemization.
They seem to be doing an awesome job so far. I’m skeptical how much they can dampen cheating, as that’s the last piece of the puzzle.
Gold pickup is a minor thing. What you guys want is not minor. You want skill balancing to a 20 year old game that has played the same since it came out. You want things like the stamina removed which is integral (albeit annoying) part of the characters.
Leave the base core game alone. These things are changed in mods, which are still super popular. A lot of people are fine with the game as it is.
What I, personally, would like is to see some new classes if the remaster proves successful and maybe a new act if they can pull it off.
No its not, diablo 3 is different in many core game mechanics.
I dont care how you call it, its new game for me. Different name, looks different, has changes. Its no longer original same game.
Well i agree but you for some reason think i belong in same category. I dont, dude i grown up on hard games like diablo 1,2, fallout 1,2 baldurs gate and many others. I dont want diablo 2 easy. You are mistaken better/improved/fixed with “more easy”.
So skills which are not used makes game better? Are you kidding me? More usable and reworked skills would introduce many more char builds and improve diversity even more.
Why are you so focused on D3? Why it has to be D3.2? Why it cant be D2,2 hm? Stop seeing D3 everywhere man.
I am confused. You are afraid of skill changes, but you are ok with adding new act and new characters? What the hell actualy. Do you even realize how big change of game would bring new act or new characters in comparison to changing few skills?
