Would be great if side quests were worth doing

Akara almost always gives you a useless ring

Ormus almost always gives you a useless ring

A5Q2 has its use on norm but is mostly uselessly redundant in nm and hell

Anya almost always gives you a useless class specific item

Anya’s personalize reward is beyond useless

Getting cube in NM and hell is useless

blood raven quest is useless

Countess reward(gold fountain) is useless

Charsi almost always gives you a crappy rare

What if these quests had a little bit of love

For exampe (only a examples not suggestion)

  • Anya personalize now allows you to change the appearance of your item. Could be dying with gems or swap for another item appearance

  • Anya class specific item is set to roll 2-6 affixes… but always the best tier possible

  • Charsi’s malus grants items with 7affixes within a specific lvl range

  • blood raven quest in nm and hell improve your rogue merc. nm quest makes your merc not use default arrows anymore and Hell makes her only use freezing/explosive arrows

  • countess chest fountain now drops gold/gems/runes/ring/jewel/amulet

  • Ormus gives you a crafted amulet with 7 affixes within a certain lvl range

  • getting the cube could be… getting cube on norm gets you the cube, but on nm it gets makes your cube bigger storage and so is in hell

Like norm:5x4, nm: 5x5 hell 6x5

Nm and hell chests drop an Horadric scroll which when cubed increases the size

That kind of change would make those quest way more interesting to complete

2 questions :

  1. How often do you sell your quest reward item right away?

  1. How many of you have a lvl 90+ character with some quests undone haha

They are worth doing to max your character. I would like better rewards.

The rings are fine. They are meant to be rng for a character completing the quest untwinked, not for secondary characters that have been twinked out and accounts that already have GG items. Ormus actually gave my Bowazon a pretty sweet dual leech ring with Magic Find in Hell. It can pay, maybe not often, but rng is rng just with an i inserted, hah.

I would be ok with different, and better runes per difficulty for the save the barbs quest, but it would have to be under Pul rune in Hell else you have the elite trader economists wanting to burn down your house.

Imbue again is meant for a first time character, and is rng for a buff to an item during progression, not for end game farming.

Anya item, same as above.

Anya personalize is lame, but I’m not big on transmog for D2. This isn’t an MMO or really a hugely social online game where you pimp out your toon with cosmetics.

Cube area in Hell would be a fine level 85 area. Other than that, it’s just a place to get another cube should you decide to drop it for another character or lose it to a bug/crash/etc.

Blood Raven could easily be fixed by first time completion in normal, give a merc -1 to character level if you don’t have a hired merc, otherwise, if you did have one, a one time offer to hire for free.

Countess reward is more than the gold, it’s worth doing for the rune tables alone (not that it usually pays off). Maybe enhanced the rune for quest slightly in nightmare, and enhanced key drop in Hell for quest completion.

As for your cube reward idea, it’s just a dumb way for extra inventory space that is easily solved in LoD by a charm inventory, and in Classic by shared stash.

Really, at this point, I’m more interested in their plans for Ladder 2, especially if they have any plans to actually make multiplayer more interesting than simply solo farming in a private game, or solo farming in a multiplayer game. That’ll be my gauge for how interested I am in Ladder 2 vs simply staying in Non Ladder with already leveled characters.

The quests you are talking about aren’t side quests, they are Character Empowerment quests, stat, skill, life, resists

Im talking about side quests, quests that if you don’t do have zero impact on your gameplay

It would be neat if they allowed you limited access to the suffix and prefix in Nightmare and above, then rolled the RNG within those parameters. That way you’d have a little more agency over filling in the gaps of your build.

Agreed. Maybe allow you to pick which runes you want from a dialogue menu or something.

I agree, it’s fine as is for an Act 1 reward.

Naming an item is a nice touch, but I agree it does very little for the game, especially since people can’t inspect other people. I agree with Jedi, I’m okay with transmog if I can turn it off on my end.

Gasp You offering more drastic suggestions that deviate from the norm? So it ain’t so, Joe. Say it ain’t so…

I do agree that perhaps the rewards could be better, such as actual better affixes per difficulty. It’s a balancing act though, since some of those lower affixes are potentially good for various things, like LLD (not that I partake or understand enough to take advantage of the trading meta).

For Anya personalize, I always had a thought in my head, that it’d be cool to add some sort of auto-mod, like repair dura/indestructable to an item that didn’t have it, if it did, then 20% enhanced dmg or defense. Maybe even just add a rune mod to the item, based on difficulty Low for Normal, Mid for Nightmare, and High (Vex+) for Hell. But those thoughts to venture outside of what would probably be acceptable by the majority, thus never really voiced them.

As for transmog, I’m not necessarily against it persay. However, it does play a role in PvP for ensuring mutual played agreed rules are being followed, or even for PK stuff to quickly size up an opponent based on what they are wearing (or what you can approximate that they are wearing). That, and I would rather resources go for more meaningful things, since D2 isn’t really the style of game where cosmetics really matter like an MMO, or a co-op game at it’s core.

The Quest system in D2 is just an unfortunate case of how the game was built, and updated during it’s original lifetime and altering it too much, might be more trouble than it’s worth where it’s easier and more direct to update things like skill balance, unique/set bonuses, etc, especially to exceptional/elite unique/set mods that won’t touch the Classic mode of the game.

So much dissenting opinions based on manure arguments lol

Transmog isn’t an issue in pvp if you add an option to toggle it off

Also… if this was really a thing… runewords destroy you argument since they don’t have unique skins but rather just have the base model, you can’t tell appart somebody wearing archon plate Nigma and archon plate coh

Also… what are you smoking, Diablo 2 always something for item fashion, just that it’s limited to what if available, colour pelts is a great example of that. widen the offer and everybody will play the appearance game.

Also, this argument is invalidate by the Unique and set items. Do they have a different appearance from their base? Yes… therefor thematically heroes modify the appearance of their items to personalize them and make them reflect their power and identity

I’m pretty flexible, on the things I find non-negotiable, I really stick to my guns. Largely because I’ve already explored the suggested solutions and found them untenable.

Yes, this is a good point. The rewards are static but the difficulty is not. They can’t be so powercrept as to motivate people to just reroll characters to farm quest rewards for FG, but the rewards need a buff.

Yeah, I could get on board with that, sounds reasonable. Certainly allows certain uniques etc. a brighter future. What’s more, is that it feels like a quest reward you could look forward too.

This is certainly the only real issue, and could be circumvented if implemented correctly. As pointed out by others, a toggle would alleviate this problem. Transmog would add a level of customization that was not provided with character creation/appearance.

Yes and no, I mean this isn’t EQ or WoW with literally thousands of quests they’d have to trudge through. D2 has an extremely small number of quests. I’d hope that it’d be within their capability, if not their desire, to improve them at some point. At the point of Hell Act V, no one is looking forward to Ral Ort Tal.

Maybe tone down the toxicity. You always get super defensive and toxic when someone doesn’t buy into your massive change list discussions. You posted the same thing in Reddit, and I noticed it didn’t get much discussion outside of the strawpoll votes themselves, which honestly wasn’t that much as it would have been pre-launch. I’ve actually met you half-way with my thoughts.

As to toggles, it might solve some things like how other players view your character’s equipment, but in the end, one of the big points of cosmetics, is to show yourself and character creation to the world, as well as role-play aspects which fits more in an MMO. While they do play a role in personnel preference to how your character looks, generally power will still prevail over looks in D2. I choose an Archon Plate not for looks, but for standards such as weight type to defense to durability ratio.

However, I still stand by the argument that if it was a choice between using resources (especially coding time) between transmogs, or more fulfilling things to the game (such as a stack tab perhaps), Transmogs will always be bottom priority.

While I didn’t care as much before launch, and it didn’t even make my top wishes for D2R before launch, I’m really hoping that they do something to incentive multiplayer play. If they do nothing else for the game, I hope that they do stack tab and actually making co-op meaningful beyond some farce of a fair competition to make it worthwhile to play with to play with others in a party.

They have already spent ressources into making all 2D Unique have a 3D model

Without transmog, that is real ressource waste since 99% of Unique items are trash, therefor their model not used

Add Art transmutation to the game and it sure won’t be wasted because it’s a fun endgame activity for a lot of people, especially if you tie it to another endgame activity like I did with standard of heroes

Not all endgame activities have to be hardcore challenging content

You said it… “I”

Not because you do it like that that everybody does

I see this question come back a lot “which armor looks better on X class”

Not everybody is a zealous min/maxer, some people sacrifice stats for looks

Oh I agree there is a truckload of things they could improve to the game… if there is one thing that understand this in these forums it’s me haha

I agree that party play could get some love but also make sure it’s not at the detriment of people that like to play solo. This really just comes down to harder content imho

Something that does this well is my endgame difficulty scaler suggestion, “King of the hells”.

You can do it solo but you can also play it in party and have strategies. It becomes so hard that you’ll have to find people to complement your group. Another strategy would be to scatter to clear more areas faster

In your opinion, and your number is waaaay off, as proven in your last buff unique thread where you were shown that there are plenty of viable and used unique items. Besides, the devs can always go in and update some uniques and sets on all spectrums, as they have already done with many low-mid set bonuses, without even touching a transmog.

Resources are not just the models and graphics anyways, but the coding costs, both monetary and labor investment. It has to be coded, tested, fixed, retested, etc as we already know, things like to break and bug when they mess with the code. For a feature most folks still won’t touch, it’s bottom priority. As for the “I” yes, I don’t think it’s worth the devs time, nor the players time for this feature. “I” am giving my opinion, and seeing by the amount of disagreement you are facing in the other thread, I’m not alone.

Most of what your opinions are for improving the game, are subjective and have been frowned upon my the majority of the community you have presented them to. There are bridges too far to be considered official Diablo 2, and you crossed them 10x already. As for harder content being an incentive for party play, that won’t solve anything until the core issue is resolved. People play solo for the loot, and if you force them into a farce of fair competition to get that loot, they quit. Look at Diablo 4 comments, Diablo players don’t want forced into multiplayer to progress or get items.

When you add 20 new game modes to a game, you divide the playerbase between those 20 game modes. Hence why arguments have been made against things like divided forked server for classic vs changes, personal loot options, ssf options, etc. In order to add game modes, they have to consider the entire playerbase, and if they are worth it to add or just take away from the game. Look at Diablo 3 in how they continually divided up the playerbase with first the Monster Power system, then the Torment System, on top of how the grouping structure during the storyline was made. Too much division = less playerbase per mode until it primarily becomes a solo mode.

The best way to help devs figure out the best updates for the game, is by coming up with a limited amount of ideas, fully thought out with reasons why or why not they will work, and be open to criticism and discussion. It does no good for the devs or community managers to scan through 100+ ideas from a singular person, especially when they lash out against criticism or disagreement.

Blasphemy. My Chains of Honor says “Donald Trump’s Chains of Honor”

Wrong, the devs only listen to streamers, so if you want some influence, become one of those and maybe they will implement something you suggest.

That’s just your streamer bias talking. While in a sense, lots of ideas have come from the streamers including many of the merc 2.4 changes coming straight from Carbot’s suggestions, there have been other avenues and our CMs have been watching. I don’t remember in game clock being from a streamer, but from our own forum group on the pre-order forums. Also, they had the big Reddit survey from last year, their own surveys from last year, etc. Also notice how quick Pez responded to complaints on the streamer event for ladder start, or when Darkmaster posted the hidden WW changes.

Heck, Llama was fairly anti-change last year, and he is the poster boy for D2R, yet we still got 2.4. Dbrunski had been asking for things for awhile, and hadn’t received. Twitter is another place that gets looked at and responded to.

The only quest reward that is entirely useless is Personalize. Especially if you’re on Hardcore you simply don’t do it becuase Nhilathak is extremely dangerous past Normal difficulty without coming prepared with certain items.

I’m surprised you can have this name with how authoritarian the filters are in modern blizzard games

Yeah but the other ones are still useless most of the time

Also, justifying something because it has a probability of being not trash in hardcore isn’t a way to design stuff… base on a fringe minority of the playerbase

yes… becuase d2 has no “side quests”

what is wrong with you… its not a MMO or a jrpg

its a top down hack and slash, made 21 years ago that literally define an entire genre of games.

i can choose to not save cain… i can choose to not save anya. i dont need to finish killing trav before i open durance…

D2 is full of side quests… any quest that isn’t about progressing you on the storyline is a side quest

Optional

This doesn’t have much bearing on anything. There’s only a few quests I think should really be revisited. Some people mentioned the ring Akara gives you, but the reality is, on Normal in particular, some players might not even have two rings equipped yet when they complete the quest, so even a crap ring is better than nothing. For Ormus, I think he should give you a Crafted ring based on your class. Still randomized, but you’re guaranteed to get certain affixes, and it would make people aware of Crafted items.

Anya’s quest, the personalize thing needs something to go along with it. I guess it might be cool to some people but it should at least give some sort of item like several other quests.

But again, the fact that all the quests are once per difficulty doesn’t mean much. You can make many characters to get the rewards again and people often do that for Imbue and Add Sockets specifically.

I hope they never listen to Dbrunski. The guy literally wouldn’t know how to play the game without fan donations, editors, and whipping out his credit card.
