Dude at some point you’re just creating PoD. IDK if maps and melee splash is really the way to go. Same for a charm inventory, I think char inventory management was supposed to be part of the game. You gotta choose how much space you’re gonna leave and what you’re gonna pickup or leave.
the mods are what kept the community alive in recent years. They took something and improved on it and received a lot of positive feedback as a result. Why not do something that has shown to have worked?
PoD was not the only living comunity from d2. There was still a player base every ladder until d2r.
Continueing improvements are fine, i don’t disagree with all you wrote, but at some point it deviates from the original core design and/or blatantly rips off another game(like maps)
I’m not saying D2R should copy the end game maps to the very detail. It can implement its own iteration of it and use new ideas.
I enjoyed the private servers and can see how others would like the changes made but my entire reason for playing them was the fact there were no bots. So far d2r is bot free so I don’t quite miss pod or pd2 yet
so, When you make a Remake which is what D2R basicly is
there are 2 main paths to take
- Leave it as close to the original as is and just update graphics and make it playible
- Improve the game add in a bunch of QoL Stuff and make it more playible / competitible with more modern day versions of this game
This game clearly tryed to go into the 2nd boat
Removing ICP/TCP, Adding shared stash, Auto gold pick up, cant play both singleplayer offline and then take that character online like we could with the original
This game CLEARLY Changed aspects about the game, THUS The first boat is just out of the question and thus it MUST In order to do well as a Reboot attempt the 2nd one
it realy failing hard at the 2nd boat as well and needs SO much QoL Improvements just to make it doable but the servers are the #1 problem with this game eveything eles takes a back seat.
Because it hasn’t had any substantive changes since 2008.
If you nerf Grief then you made melee even more useless, strongly buffed ED/AR/IAS is way to get more options for melee, Grief would become less usefull naturally in power creep process, buff > nerf
Only one thing what should be nerfed is Teleport cuz is totally broken and destroying slow progression on the start what is the best part of the game and gives early GOD mode w/o any costs, just 1p skill LOLOLOLOL.
Teleport should be ranged or better, a ranged mana cost skill, 24 mana at lvl1…for 1 radius range ![]()
Nerfing Teleport and greatly buffing Faster Run/Walk is the best solution imo to fix too overwhelming caster meta.
that’s a fancy term for rip off
Grief nerf but innate buff for melee classes like melee splash, or AR removal
The main reason why we are asking for these changes is:
Blizzard does not enable multiplayer modding, so we want them to provide (good) changes that we know from mods like path of diablo, project diablo2 or MedianXL
As for me, I really like the new graphics, 60fps etc, but there are many things that can be done to enable more build variety and make more items useful. Maybe you noticed that like 2-3 Weeks after start, most items are not worth much. The cause of this is not that most items are crap, but instead that noone plays builds that would use those items. If you balance skills, add movement abilities similar to teleport or nerf teleport, such that all classes get viable, you can make the game more fun to play. Just imagine, you find a jalal’s mane and you can trade it for harlequin crest (shako), since there are enough druids who want that item. You find more stuff that you can trade to others and it is easier to get items you need for your build, instead of running hours over hours just to find any good rune, paladin item or sorc item that you can trade.
However, I am realistic enough to expect that blizzard will never add any functionality that is not already in the game. That is why i went back to path of diablo, where i have alot more fun, but worse graphics… However, for me POD is still a better game than D2R with all the bugs blizzard does not want (or is just not able to?) fix.
If Blizzard would enable the community to provide multiplayer mods, I think they would still be able to grab cash for the graphics update, but there would not be any change requests in the forum because players could play modded versions instead.
This would be a WIN-WIN. But whatever… It’s Blizzard… they don’t listen to their customers, because they know better what we want. (Maybe their current priority is to work on D2R for Android and iPhone to grab even more cash? Who knows…)
The biggest reason is that in the last 20 years, alot of people have created very good d2 mods. PoD actually gave D2 an actual end game and balance. Better synergies and better over all game play. So in 20 years since release people see better and improved options for a very old game and what it could actually be. I am not one that think drop rates should be improved. I do think there should be a standard loot filter cause 95% of all drops are clutter and cover portals and such. I think Melee builds and bowa need a tweek. But the biggest drop off is there isn’t anything end game to really do. Maps would be an awesome addition.
I think part of it is that there is actually a dev team that will listen now (or we think they will). Back in the day, most of us knew that there was no one around to change anything. Sure in the first few years, but at least for 15 years or so there was nothing on the other side, so why bother requesting a change?
Now we have a dev team that has honestly admitted to wanting to change some things. That opens a whole pandoras box, but it’s someone on the other side to rant to, something we haven’t had in a decade or so.
That’s how Blizzard got big and successful, they ripped off stuff from other games, improved it and made big money ![]()
“no no no we didn’t rip it off, we just tweeked it” - blizzard
Maybe you’re allergic to changes or maybe you don’t realize that changing is what life is all about, so what is happening is as natural and normal as possible. Yes 20 years have gone by, things change, things move and the planet spins. Eureka. Nothing so difficult to understand.
People aren’t opposed to change. However, Change just for the sake of change is a bad idea. For everything added, removed, and modified it has to be thoroughly tested and justified to be an actual change. Changing D2R in certain ways that the community wants will turn it into a completely different entity from the game it was Remastered from. At this point you might aswell change the name to Diablo 2: Reimagined.
Those that say certain changes are bad is because it was fully thought out and individuals stated it separates the Remaster from the original too much and can possibly ruin the game. I gave examples on how things could be implemented while keeping D2R very close to D2+LoD at the core and how it feels. The ploot advocates for example ignored it and it caused fellow pro FFA advocates to think I was siding with people who want generic ploot.
Curious which specific games you are referring to here.
Blizzard actually got it’s start from games like Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo… I didn’t see anything that came before those which resemble them in any way.
yea gotta agree deatheye makes no sense there. They made their name on incredible new games for the time. Other co’s would copy the diablo or war craft for their games, not the other way around.
I mean if they’ve got some specific examples to show us I’m all ears or eyes… But if they are attempting to misinform they need to at least put some work into it.
