Why do so many new and returning players want to change the game so much?

I think he means when Blizzard took inspiration from Turn Based Strategy games and got the idea to turn it into a Real Time Strategy game. Warcraft 1 was the game they did this with.

Blizzard saw the success with Warcraft 1 and had Blizzard North change Diablo 1 from Turn Based to Action based in early devopment. David Brevik didn’t like the idea at first because it was unknown. However, After the majority of Blizzard North voted to try it David Brevik pulled an all nighter to make the change happen. He fell in love with the new direction for Diablo 1.

However, These are examples of taking inspiration from other games not ripping stuff off from other games.

Yeah I can agree with the inspirational part. But to say they ripped off other games is ridiculous. It would be like saying anything that came after The Bard’s Tale is a total rip off.

Strategy games are a genre, as are RPGs.

Dune 2 → Warcraft → Warcraft 3, arguable the best RTS ever made

Dune 2 → Starcraft

Everquest → WoW, biggest mmorpg ever

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good thing to get inspired by other games and “copy” some stuff and improve it, that’s how games evolve  it’s just interesting that this is what made Blizzard so successful in the first place.

You are right, please don’t change this game into another D3. If that happens then what was the point in even remastering this game to begin with.

change can be good. i wouldnt say no to some achievement system.

holygrail achieve with a checkmark next to each uniques that dropped for the character for example.

that way you can work on it without having to stash all of em or note them down lol

Yeah, Blizzard has always been about taking previous ideas and polishing them.
Nothing bad there.

As for Diablo 1, it was clearly inspired by dungeon crawlers/roguelikes before it. It probably is their most unique game though.

I am fine with certain changes to D2R but I want D2R to stay true to D2+LoD just like the Baldur’s Gate remasters stayed true to their original versions.
