1: If you’re playing offline and experiencing this issue suddenly with all of your offline characters, it’s likely due to a corrupted file relating to the shared stash.

Whilst playing in game, my PC crashed (likely caused by the game itself, however irrelevant). Upon restart, I fired up the game again, and tried to play as that same offline character, and I’m faced with the error “Failed to join game”. Restarting the game does not solve this problem. As someone who has commercial software testing experience I find this absolutely appalling that a AAA game company would release a game without running a test case on restoring the game after a software or hardwar…

Be sure to back the file up somewhere before deleting it, just in case that isn’t the issue. If this is the issue, unfortunately the items in the shared stash would be lost.

2: If you’re only experiencing the issue with one offline character and other offline characters work fine, then the files for that character are corrupted. The only way to fix the issue is if you have a recent backup of the character files.
