Stacking runes - I actually dont like it, I sometimes start late in the ladder or have little time to play and if that happens I basically live by gems, Rals and such.
Loot filter - I honestly dont care, as long as it is not setup for all game (by host), but for each player separately. Admitedly I must say I believe this is the feature which controller/pick it users insist the most for.
Players 8 - nope
Balance - it is not QoL and besides I wouldnt trust Blizzard to balance wooden cube…
He is actually partially right. 90% players which left were the purists angry at changes made. By extension he is part of the reason for declining playerbase…
I’ll come back to this game (for about a whole hour) when they have instanced loot. New RWs and all the other nothing burgers are not enough to keep this game alive. I started playing diablo when I was 13/14 years old. I’m 36 now. The people who still play this thing are definitely niche, considering the new content is so minimal. I thought they were going to add some good stuff, more quests, a new act, stuff like that. I mean they DID completely rebuild the original engine with more modern tech. They don’t have that excuse of “it was all on Dave’s hard drive” line of BS. They have full, total, empirical control of the entire game and can’t say it’s too old to add stuff. This was so cool when it was released but within a month I got to my same of plateaus and monotony. It’s dead. D4 is the only saving grace with the whole DI and D2R debacle. It’s not WOW or Overwatch lootoxes, or $100,000 max-out P2W ImMoral, so what reason do they have to spend literally a single dime on this? We’re lucky we even got new runewords. Epic fail. If you’re still hooked on this game, not only are you patient AF, you’re something special beyond just patience.
Nope, here is what happened:
Launch - no new changes 100% playerbase.
1st ladder - announced changes - 90% didnt return - therefore purists didnt return
They still haven’t ripped the players from the most popular mods and pservers because they refuse to implement QoL changes. A currency tab or stacking runes/gems would draw in players. A larger amount of stash space to keep things organized would draw in players. Loot filters would draw in players. Just about every sensible QoL change to make the interface more manageable would draw in players.
The people who are against these QoL features aren’t purists, they’re multiboxers who already enjoy most of these features via multiple accounts. They have more character slots. They have more stash space. They have /p8. And you don’t. That’s the point for them, they can have it, but you don’t. That’s why they oppose QoL changes.
I haven’t finished reading the full thread, but whatever else is true, this argument is completely stupid (regardless of who’s saying it). If you have a bot, what are you going to do with that bot? Set it up to dupe 7,140,934,453,248 (actual number; that’s 7 trillion) El runes into Zods? Or are you going to have it do what it’s already doing, looking for high-value runes and uniques to store for RMT?
Even if you say, okay, dupe Ists to higher runes. If that’s possible it’s already happening. Give us a currency tab.
If people really want /p8 for the challenge, make it only used as online SP and remove any no drop and loot drop and exp mechanics for online. I predict that those that say they want it for more challenge will still not be ok with this, meaning that it’s really all about the loot. They don’t really want more challenge unless it means more reward.
The funny thing about the change vs no change crowd is:
The QOL changes dont really impact the game very much if at all.
Blizzard had already made balance changes and is routinely adding new runewords which has a far greater impact than allowing currency to stack.
Regarding balance, my point is. If you’re not going to balance the game because you want to keep the original feel in tact then fine. But Blizzard is balancing and had already made some pretty sweeping changes. Yet some of the biggest outliers remain. i would think in terms of balance, if you are going go to do it, you might start with the biggest outliers. Not poor werebear lol.
This isnt really a discussion of should they balance or not. Because blizz already decided.
stacking runes and gems was never desired, its part of the game to manage your freckin inventory. should get used to it after 20 years. it wont change, its not part of d2 and was never supposed to, stop crying for it…
saying that it barely effects the gameplay is a big lie.
Except for how PlugY was the most popular D2 mod of all time, with its infinite stash tabs? I know that’s what Blizz North said at original launch, but that’s not how the player base or game economy evolved. People were muling basically on day one.
i.e. this isn’t about purity, it’s about practicality. And it definitely doesn’t break the game when people are buying new accounts to mule. At that point it’s a convenience, and a true, DESERVED qol that players should be granted rather than effectively paying Blizz for additional stash (via additional accounts and multiboxing).
Sure stacking was never involved 20 years ago, when you didn’t need stacking because you had unlimited space in LOD. Literally unlimited.
And for those who don’t need extra space, the change won’t bother you. For those that are good players and min/max their efforts and actually find a lot of gear and stuff they need the space. Inventory management is not an appealing aspect of any game.
