I have like 10 unique rings and like 5 Raven Frost or whatever, I can’t get an SoJ to save my life and it’s starting to jade me. Is there some secret or farming strategy to limit the pool of unique rings so I can stop getting trash?
Unique rings have different item levels which mean they cant drop is certain areas and are more or less likely to drop depending on where you are. The best place to farm SOJ isn’t hell Baal, for example, it’s NM andy (I think). Other rings are more common in different places. Keep in mind that SOJs are supposed to be rare.
Are they a rare drop within the pool of unique rings? Or are you just telling me what unique rings are rare? Because this I already know, which is why after many hours I only have 10 or so.
Also, thanks I’ll give that a try.
If you’re looking for SoJ and you’re intent on finding one yourself, and you’re looking for that and only that, there are places/bosses that have a higher chance to drop it, but most of them are below Hell difficulty.
If you’re fine with trading for an SoJ then you’re better off just farming in the most lucrative place you can in Hell. You may not find it directly but it won’t take you long to find stuff that adds up to the approximate value of an SoJ in terms of runes etc.
Yup, not all unique rings are equally common, just as not all runes are equally common, even in a zone that can drop all of them. Think of SOJ as the Jah of rings. It can drop, but you’re much more likely to get a Manald Heal. Again.
Every unique ring is a nagel and every green amulet is a civerbs
Don’t even get excited to see unique rings or green amulets anymore.
Civerbs eh? I keep getting the Halo thing.
Also my memory of this is fuzzy since it’s something I heard in the pre D2R days, you could use the fact that the same unique couldn’t drop more than once in the same session to your advantage. So the way it worked was that if a couple non SoJs dropped, it would raise the chances that the next unique ring that dropped in the session was an SoJ. Something like that anyway.
I’m not sure if D2R works the same way though.
I wonder if that applies to gambling too?
im pretty sure you can get a SOJ from gambling
Nightmare Andariel with as much MF as you can possibly get to try to push all the green rings she will drop into uniques. The pool in Nightmare I think is just 3 rings, but still the average many report is out of 30-40 unique rings only 1 will be a SoJ. Of course with RNG you could farm 200 unique rings and not get any…
99% of uniques are trash and need major rework.
i haven’t found soj or Bk yet at all, found countless ravens dwards manald nagels lol. no wisps yet either… all the good rings evade me.
Nightmare Andy is your best bet for a soj. Problem with that is nm gear isn’t that good, so unless you get the soj, the rest of the time is wasted.
nm andy and meph can both drop some pretty decent mid lvl uniques, like occy, gaze, viper…
especially early in the season nm meph and andy can be quite good if you ask me.
That is the truth. But the reverse is true as well, you could be running around playing for fun, not farming for anything in particular, and find a GG drop from some random trash mob. That actually did happen for me, twice no less, once with SoJ and then once again with the BK ring.
Rng, yo. My dad got one farming NM cows about a month I want to say post launch for D2R. Me on the other hand, I just settled for 7 HRs in 3 months. My rarest unique ring has been two Carrion Winds. However, my funniest ring drop was out of the Outer Cloister chest heading out to Tamoe Highlands for Pits in Hell, and out popped a Ravenfrost.
I got lots of Ravenfrosts, and Nagels, and Nature’s Peace, no SoJ. So now I’m speed farming Andariel with 350% MF on NM with Energy Shield build because I’m tired of using mana pots.
I’ll let you know if I get lucky.
EDIT: She just dropped a unique ring on my third run, Nagel. Oh the heartbreak!!!
If it came from the right areas you might see one or two out of a hundred unique rings be a soj.
It’s very very very rare to find a soj
In my off and on thousands of hours playing D2 since OG launch, I’ve only managed 3 SoJs. First was given to me by a classmate the year LoD launched, second I found either late 1.09 or early 1.10 off of a monster in Durance 2 while rushing someone through Nightmare on my Zeal/Fana Paladin (I’m wanting to see non ladder early 1.10, but could have been late 1.09), and then my last one I got was on the Succubus Single Player Mod in 2020 off of a mob in Countess Tower.
