I play single player offline hardcore.
I love the self found aspect of the game.
What I’ve been dying for is a way to connect your offline character to a rogue encampment that is only for chatting and trade.
Now hear me out.
I understand the side of self found for single player people.
So what I propose is a “The Self Discovered” or any type of title like that for people that don’t trade.
Your character will now keep a log of the #of confirmed trades players have made… to allow for both a way to gear out in single player from multiplayer trading, while simultaneously not being able to leave town to help eachother out and preserving the self found title for the truely dedicated.
Edit: the amount of passive aggressive negativity is embarrassing

Honestly…they should just re-implement open battle.net or TCP/IP or both or whatever you wanna call it. The only people who don’t want that are Activision execs who can’t stand not having full and complete control of their products. It’s pretty sad.

It might be easier for Blizzard to just programme some spam bots and add them to single player to bring the authentic chat experience to offline play. Wouldn’t be too hard to add some lowballing trade bots as well. And random MF sorcs popping into your SP game to kill your next quest objective.

….ok, I’m going to assume you don’t like the idea based off this response…
Nah, they could definitely add to the SP experience for sure. But what you’re asking is in all likelihood impossible to secure based on their architecture. I bet we would sooner see tcp/ip and open bnet returning before they are able to allow SP characters to interact with the MP world in the way you’re describing, assuming my understanding of your post is correct.
Yeah it would be essentially a option to “connect to the rogue encampment” from the SP menu and would log into bnet from there for the trade/no trade/chat area.
I mean I’d even go there and ask questions to seasoned players about doing UBERS etc on hardcore for tips and help.
I remember trade forums having sections for single player trading in legacy D2. As in, trading via Open Battle.net (locally hosted TCP/IP games). You had to trust and assume that the items you were trading for were legit finds and not hero edited, etc.
So to me you’re kind of asking for a new version of Open Battle.net, which I would personally still love to see. I don’t otherwise see them hosting a trade system for SP themselves though. I doubt they want to deal with or encourage weird hacked characters and items on their servers in any capacity. That’s the problem with trying to mix these two worlds.

Its not self found then.
What is the point? If you want to simulate trade, just give yourself IST from hero editor and throw away shako.
Trading between SP and MP can end up with realm filled with hacked items. We had that in past, so not again.

Trading is completely pointless in offline mode.
If you want to chat, just create an online character.
Let’s just make offline… online! I’m a genius!
Nah
Ssf char creation check Box is what we need
And a ladder of its own

I say build Hero Editor into the game and offer it online ^.^
~* devious laughter echoes down the halls *~
could unlock parts of it with ladder
that would actually be awesome LoL
I’d be happy if they just reimplemented open bnet or something similar to TCP/IP. To me, it was never single player mode but just a mode without having the restrictions of bnet (such as limited character creation and back then, characters would be deleted if I didn’t log in for x period of time).
I wouldn’t mind playing online now that characters are no longer deleted after inactivity but we still have the character creation limit unfortunately.

would be pointless as single player hero editors require no trade and you can have all the best items “self found” and even items that don’t exist
Well I’ve never used nor knew that these programs existed.
For me,
Someone who plays single player legitimately
Would like to have the option to trade with other legitimate SP HC players if I wanted to.
Without being able to help eachother kills things and to have my self found title removed if I make a trade.
then you never played d2 pre 1.10 which is fair i don’t care when you started.
it would be impossible to know if you are trading with a legitimate player or not is the point.
what is the point of the title though if the only thing social play is for is trading?
I mean you would only have it if you didn’t trade and the only people who would see it are people trying to trade…
I mean I feel like if you play SP HC you would understand it better.
Like never being able to find a jah rune, which is totally fine. But maybe I’d like to break my no trade title to be able to make myself some of the better gear.
If you play SP and don’t want to be part of this you don’t have to, fairly straight forward.
It also gives you a place to go to discuss SP strategies and builds that you basically never see online non HC and to show your accomplishments
Online is all about max damage and skipping mobs or getting help with things you can’t kill with absolutely zero risk of dying
SP is about a build that allows you to clear all content which is more talent diversity, planning etc.
You don’t have to like the idea, but I find it hard to discuss this with online players only as well as the part of the community that doesn’t play HC. Non HC is just log in and farm with no consequences and always gain loot and never lose it.
A place to maybe get something that will remove your self found title but grant you the gear to beat a part of the game you otherwise couldn’t
I just never liked the idea of riskless farming with zero consequence
I mean I’ve had an SOJ in my stash because im not ready to commit a character to using it because they arnt strong enough to maintain it ( not worthy)

Me neither.
However, after I got a power surge at home I learned that there is a bug that not only deletes the offline character you’re playing at the time but also corrupts your shared stash meaning you’re unable to play any of your other offline characters.
To regain control of your offline characters you need to locate the folder where all your characters get saved and manually delete the shared stash file. You regain access to the rest of your heroes, but your shared stash is now wiped.
After losing my high level character and all my hard earned stash, this bug encouraged me to start saving backups of my characters to separate folders on my computer.
After killing Baal on hell legitimately my mind started to wander…
Using my mad windows skills (i.e. i know how to copy and paste). I started copy/pasting backup versions into the main saved folder to replicate runes. With enough runes i could upgrade them using horadric cube recipes. A few hours later i own about 5 of every rune in the game and now my idea of farming is finding the right base item.
Long story short, the offline trade economy is too corrupt to be something implemented.

This is fair, but if you can already create anything you want then why would you trade?
Also is doesn’t mean that there isn’t a way to create an offline SP experience that uses some online connection to maintain integrity
open bnet and TCP/IP would be huge to have back.
iirc them being gone is one of the main reasons mods have been crippled on D2R.
