The socket recipes we have right now for non-whites are insufficient.
For magic items, you have a few recipes but they
- Completely re-roll the affixes, which makes finding a “good” magic item to socket meaningless.
- It maxes out at ilvl 30, which means you can’t even roll many of the good affixes.
The other recipe is for Rare items, however it has an absolutely insane cost of requiring you to sacrifice a stone of jordan + 3 perfect skulls. While this may have made sense a long time ago when duped SOJs were rampant, times have changed and so should this recipe requirement.
All non-runeword items, including Crafted gear, should have an affordable recipe to add a socket (or 2 for magic).
Recipe:
- 3 Perfect Skulls + item + jewelry of same type (example: 3 Pskulls + rare sword + rare ring or amulet) = add 1 socket to item.
This would give non-runewords a much needed boost. Specifically in the early and mid game for non-end game gear you would never spend your quest reward on. It would also add value to low level set/unique rings and amulets you find.
One final note. If you’re the kind of person who power-rushes all his mules through the game to farm quest-rewards, you may not see the value in this. This recipe is probably not a big deal for you. However, for the rest of us mere mortals, I think this would be a helpful little cube recipe that could power up our mid-level gear when we’re struggling in Nightmare and early Hell.

Yes I also think it should be reduced to 2 perfect skulls + soj.

The SOJ requirement is an insane non-starter. Nobody in their right mind would blow an SOJ on socketing some rare item. You can get a free socket reward on an alt character faster than it takes to find an SOJ. That is why I’m suggesting we tone it down so you can socket a rare item with a rare ring/amulet, and a unique item with one of the many low level unique rings like a manald or nagel.

If the handful of people who play Classic don’t want these changes, then I will happily support making this an LoD only change.
First of all
Larzuk should be between 1 and 2 socket on 2handed weapons
As for the recipe
I’d rather see tokens drop in random areas of the game, ideally by super unique monsters
That token allows for extra Larzuk socket and Charsi imbue
Ideally Ormus quest reward should be change to « bring me a Magic jewellery and I shall make it Rare with the power of the Gibdin »
Another place where the token could be used
Zod, ear, and uber book to make things eth to non eth
If you would want to eliminate the need of sacrificing an SoJ then make that recipe require 6 Pskulls rather than 3. Cube space should also be increased too. Sure that’s a lot of Pskulls but it would be worth the grind to get that socket in the rare item you would like to use a end game or temporarily.
Think you could have used a better choice of words besides non-white? As in colored?!
