Make ZOD great aga… For the First time!

Zod now not only renders items indestructible but also turns them ethereal

This giving the rune 3
Perks

  • make indestructible items ethereal
  • make ethereal items indestructible
  • make normal items indestructible and ethereal

Found a perfect 3 socket non-Eth tomb reaver? Zod it and it’s now Eth and indestructible

Found a perfect Grand father or doom ringer? Zod it ans it’s now ethereal

I would not even mind for it to apply to naturally indestructible items like phaseblade and bows

Zod eaglehorn making it Ethereal which propels it into relevancy by giving its base 50% which then is multiplied by having two % damage mod. 200%enhance damage +198% enhance max damage

That shifts Eaglehorn from45-313 To 67-473

Zod Azurwrath making it ethereal which makes it a greater weapon

That shifts it from 114-129 to 172-194

And the beauty of this is that it also works with sets which can’t spawn ethereal

Zod you iK maul making it go from 234-321 to 346-447

And that’s not even accounting the improve effect of the second socket if you use ohm or Ed jewel

your Griswold caddy that previously did 199-232 with 4ohm would now do 272-316

This would be an an overall potential buff to Unique weapons , sets and rare items

This could also be taken into consideration for future runewords designs

The problem with this is that in order to be competitive everyone would need to zod all their gear. The rich of D2 would have no issue doing so, but it would ruin the experience for newer/less wealthy players, especially in a pvp setting.

It would also remove a huge portion of the item variability in game, which IMO is one of the big reasons D2 is still a successful game. Forcing Zod to become the “standard” for all good items, (E-rep aside) would just push out the casual playerbase of D2.

theres currently a fundamental design bug with sets. if you make them ethereal, they no longer count toward the set. this is why sets cannot be ethereal. this would have to be fixed, though im not really a fan of the idea to begin with

Nope… if the item has little to no Ed there is no point

Take giant skull, it has no Ed

Take runemaster… ofc you can Zod it, but its effect happens once, you still need other jewel or runes

Every weapon example you give is still inferior to Grief and still irrelevant

this is a brilliant idea.

only downside i see with this. Are the super rare spawns, like armor with eth 2 sock 200edefense, and eth 450%ed wep etc would lose its value a bit. (maybe thats a good thing).

yeah… i was thinking that gris caddy would become insane… after your grief reminder… that idea died pretty quick.

Yeah gris caddy needs 6 sockets and spawn eth( so you dont have to zod it) then it kinda comes close to grief minus the deadly strike. :frowning:

I saw your post get 122 upvotes on reddit, grats!

This is the best idea you’ve come up with (and I mean that in a good way) :+1:

The plan was never to beat grief

Why try to be worse than the worst item

Only bad devs can design OP items

Giving BOTD is crown as best melee runeword will make Zod what it should be. Grief needs to be betwixt Oath and BOTD, and then all is well. Making those brilliantly poor super rare uniques eth enabled would also help.

I like the idea of Zod making things ethereal.
I would also like to see zod bring Armor to its highest Defense.
Zod that 410 rolled AP.
Voila 524!

I kinda like the idea as long as the effect only stays as long as the Zod is socketed.

Not really. Most slots are already taken by runewords or non socket items. Most pvp folks would prefer to socket a “Ber” rune, 5/-5 facet or a jewel in those items, before they would waste the slot for eth/indestructible.

I don’t see how they lose value? You waste 1 socket that could be some powerful jewel or a “Ber” rune. Those perf uniques also don’t spawn that often that it would be a problem to be able to use a non eth version too.

I have to agree, I think this idea is a good one for a change.

This is a good shout - it means no insta ethereal titans etc - which would be wrong. It also means you cant just make those white superior bases ethereal, which would also be wrong.

What are you left with? Ethereal Grandfather of course.

I dont see any benefit to casters here - except in very rare circumstances which are ultra rare elites. So this could be considered a melee buff.

You cant socket titans anyway. So no clue what you are getting at.

Sup weapons and armor can spawn eth anyway. So no advantage there.

So what are you left with besides looking silly.

You dont see any benefit because you obvioulsy dont know this game well enough.

Not sure what you mean to be honest.

This suggested initiative would be OP if titans could recieve it - which it cant. Therefore i am supporting the initiative.

Sup bases do already drop as eth, but with a modifier of 1/20, which is a reasonable modifier. This doesnt mess that up, so again i am supporting the initiative.

Glad you agree with everything i have clearly outlined, Spaceghost.

Come in blizzard save 2.5 from failure and at least add this change to the patch

Sek, I don’t know what you are on, but I want some. Keep up the good work! Don’t listen to the haters, we need more people like you in this world. :joy:

We need an alternative to grief, so tired of it that I have not made one in years.

This 100000% Another 1.10 runeword failure along with enigma and faith. It comepletely ruined the loot hunt for uniques that used to be good.
Make these weapons great again.
Grandfather
Doombringer
B-star
Windforce
lighstabre
Hell even bloodletters were viable pre 1.10

Now the game has devolved into.

Make a character…grind for infinity enigma and grief runes.

1.10 was and wasn’t a failure

It wasn’t meant to be a playable patch

1.10 was a PTR patch

This patch was meant to test features they wanted to implement in Diablo 3 2004

They they dismantled blizzard North which solidified this PTR into the last Real Diablo update

1.10 was meant to be broken, which is why it should now be fixed
