chat still only works like 1/5 of the time. Must have tried to add 1/5 penalty to cold mastery and accidentally added it to chat instead. Nice work Blizz!
The chat is on its own server, and when those servers have any latency, hiccup, or other issue, chat becomes completely, or at best partially, unavailable. This can last for hours before the automated Blizzard systems do anything about it. Itâs normally resolved when the server reboots according to itâs automated schedule, which is what the devs think when they see this bug reported. For them to go above and beyond would require a ticket - which is sent to a very small, overworked team who have higher priority tickets awaiting them. I highly doubt this will be fixed anytime soon. The only way to fix it on our end it is to do a full restart, maybe flush IPs, and cross your fingers that a server reboot is coming soon. Itâs then that you see a sudden flood of messages come through as the system catches up, often resulting in a crash which hopefully the devs notice and do another restart.
TLDR: Itâs a server issue. Chat is on itâs own server. Automated restarts fix it eventually.
Just came back to the game after not playing for roughly 9 months and now im encountering this same issue (i didnt before), does Blizzard have any plans of addressing this? Makes playing the game online nigh unplayable
The first time it happened to me was because d2r did not close properly and when I logged back in the chat was not working.
What came to my mind is that surely my session was âin limboâ and thatâs why I couldnât log in with that new session.
To fix it, you have to follow these steps.
1.- Log out completely from the blizzard desktop app (to do this, top left on the Blizzard icon and then log out).
2.- Close any process you have open in the Blizzard app in windows.
3.- Wait 5 minutes before logging in.
4.- Test. You should be able to chat normally.
5.- If it does not work, confirm that in the game options you have the online chat enabled and in the blizzard privacy settings you have allowed the chat for all users.
I hope it works for you, see you in sanctuary.
A year later, still same issue lol. Stop the gaslighting âyou need to check this/thatâ, itâs a game issue.
Just got this bug while playing an offline character. What fixed it for me (after reading all this) was to quit the current game with my Offline Character and join a game and leave it with an Online Character and then joining again a game with my Offline Character. From that moment, when I tried to type anything it was now showing it in the chat section. I hope this will help anyone encountering this bug!
edit I tried changing the difficulty manually after fixing the chat bug by typing /players1 or any other number and it didnât show a confirmation message. What fixed it was changing it in the option menu in-game by sliding the bar. It then showed me a confirmation message. At that moment, I could type /playersX and then it would show me a message confirming the change that was made.
Same issue. And it is totally NOT your computer or your installation. It is something on the Blizzard end.
How do I know this? I have the same issue even when swapping computers. Also, my wife has the game as well, and she has no problems with chat on the same computers.
This is a maddening problem. Nothing seems to help the issue at all.
In my case you can type in chat and nothing you type shows or even registers in the chat log. You also cannot see othersâ messages or your own (after you hit enter, that is). It is as if there is something blocking messages from going from your keyboard anywhere and you also cannot see othersâ messages either.
As for Blizzard? I used to play Wow but there were loads of issues in that game as well. And half the time they never got fixed or took forever to get fixed. That is one of the reasons I quit that game, to be honest. I had even started calling it World of Glitchcraft.
In the end it is their business. I voted with my wallet with Wow, and seems I will be doing this with all Blizzard games. It seems that this six billion dollar company cares very little about its player base experience.
I was able to fix this issue by going into the launcher, clicking the gear next to play, opening explores, right click âDiablo 2 resurrected launcherâ and go to compatibility and make sure ârun program as administrator is checkedâ
This fixed my issue. Tyvm Parliament!!
i got the same problem and tryed everthing but not working, the only way it worked for me was a vpn, with vpn my chat worked
I had the same problem two days ago, it seems that Blizzard canât solve the problem they created!
Chat usually works for me but yesterday in Euro region I typed a messaged that poofed then sent it again, nothing.
Next game (of cs run) my messages appeared and the dude responded. When I mentioned what happened he said chat had some issues⌠so is intermittent for me so far (although I rarely chat in games so hard to tell)
So I was, of course having the same issue, turning the NPC subtitles on did the trick for me. And yes it still works after I have turned them off again.
I guess the output window somehow gets stuck and the NPC subtitles force it to refresh.
Cheers
Closing the game then did a scan and repair worked for me.
Iâve just started experiencing this issue in the last few days of playing. It seems somewhat random from the client side perspective but as Anarchius pointed out above this is most likely a server side issue with the chat servers.
Today the Blizzard authentication servers have also been experiencing problems, and since all game services use some kind of single sign on it could be down to this.
Something which has worked for me in either case is to close the game client and purge my local DNS cache using ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt before reloading the client.
Presumably they are using pools of servers with a load balancing appliance in front and I suspect that by clearing DNS you have a chance of homing to a new auth/chat server which is not currently experiencing these issues.
I have this issue too, canât fix it. Sent a feedback to blizzard but seems they are not interested in fixing this problem.
BUMP, we are in 2023, and this bug is still not fixed. Please fix it ASAP BLIZZARD. Even in 2000 when d2 arrived the chat worked better⌠and yes keep us updated about this, I want a blue post here
Same issue from game release until today. I started the client with wpn (Adguard VPN) one time (and in-game chat apear already). Then I left the game, turn off vpn, started game again and now chat working every time like it should be. Donât know how it helped me but maybe this way will help someone too
Changing regions worked for me
Same thing is still happening in 2024⌠going on 2025. Clearly they donât care.
