Unable to see in game chat

It’s good that there are workarounds, but really… shouldn’t the default behaviour be functional? Should we have to untick and tick back boxes in options every time we host a game? For months? And I just read a blue post explicitly denying the existence of a chat bug. Not a known issue? No comment.

Update to everyone affected by this issue:

I was watching Netflix so I had D2R in Window Mode so I could adjust it to half the screen and have Netflix on the other half. At one point I had adjusted my window size and my chat appeared on screen. It worked consistently until I restarted the client and I havent been able to find that perfect window size again.

This leads me to believe its some kind of issue where if the resolution for the chat box doesnt jive with the resolution for your window it just cuts it right out. Game devs, now you know, get to fixing please and ty because if chat isnt fixed before ladder reset I will lose my patience.

Here’s a post where they’re in complete denial about it saying " There’s currently no known bug with the in-game chat. "

Meanwhile, it’s been reported since beta and has been here for 4+ months now. It happens CONSTANTLY. In 8 games I’ve played, it’s happened in 3 of them the past hour! That’s absurd!

How do you not fix such a blatant bug like this? Especially when this is a social online game?

Completely unacceptable.

Just had the chat bug happen to not only my friend joining my game, but also me, who created the game. /Who showed zero people in chat.

Remade game, friend still bugged.

Took THREE attempts of making games to be able to chat in game.

How are you a triple A company?

I’ve been following this thread since it was first posted. I just scanned through it again, and I have not seen one player post a video of the issue. (Maybe there’s one in another thread).

If someone would post a video of this happening, it might help your cause. (“Your” referring to all players experiencing this).

The video should show:

  • Your Chat Options.
  • Your results when typing /who or other similar chat codes.
  • Your results when communicating with Party members or whispering others.

Log into the game.
Join a game with other players.
Type /who, if you can only see your name(or none at all) you’re bugged.
You’ll probably be chat bugged immediately or within at least 3 games.
No video is needed, it happens so often that you have to intentionally be lying to require proof.

chat funktioniert nicht kann nix lesen und andere koennen nicht lesen was ich schreibe … wie kann das behoben werden da der trade so nicht funktioniert

This is definitely still an issue. Cannot talk with anyone in random games, chat is still bugged.

I never had ingame-chat since game was released. I don’t even have ingame-chat on offline characters. But other players can see what I writing, and I can see phrases from NPC and enemies. Checked settings files, checked parental control, ingame-chat on in gameplay settings, reinstall battle net and game 2 times and checked again. I contacted support, they said they can’t do anything cuz it’s technical issues. I saw that peaple made bug reports about ingame-chat. This bug report has 7th place by quantity viewers at this time and this is not the single one about this problem, 4 months have passed since the release date, and it was known that this problem existed at the time of pre-release testing (check google). How players must barter each other when there is’t clear costs on any items and you haven’t ingame chat? This bug transform online game into offline game. Do you think that something should be done about this problem, blizzard?

Ignore this game, do not play any of blizz games at all. My be this helps…
I haven’t played D2R for half of a year because of this bug but it still exists.

Its not always so that others can see. Sometimes noone can see your chat text - also you cant see your self typed chat messages.

I have this chat issue literally every time I log in now for the past several weeks. I used to only have the issue sporadically, and a simple close and restart of the Bnet launcher solved the problem. That no longer is a sure thing to solve it. This is one of the most common bugs since launch, nobody needs to take a video of it, it happens all the time and has since launch. Chat in D2R is not only horrendously designed, it’s broken, buggy and flat out doesn’t work.

Not sure if you have access to devs but ill gladly stream to any Blizz person who wants confirmation. Im not a stupid person when it comes to PCs or games, ive lived on these things. Ive tried probably every combination of user settings that are possible. Unless access to chat is meant to be some cryptic labyrinth of settings that need to be set that I haven’t successfully traversed yet, theres an issue not involving the players.

I recently stated that I had managed to manually adjust the window size on window mode and it worked normally until I changed the size again, and then it went away again, in one of the games it had been currently working. I havent been able to recreate that experience. Its clearly a resolution issue that kicks the chat out of the viewable screen or something like that which would be why other players can see what we say but we cant see what they say.

This is a major one they must address. We cant team duel in 4vs4 because 1/2 of the players in the game chat dont work! and in some cases Nobodys chat works! amazing this has gone on for so long…

Yes, sadly still the same issue - this has been here since the start and nobody at Blizzard acknowledges it - quite similar to log-in problems - apparently “there are no known issues” according to Blizzard.

Please fix this chat issue Blizz… has been here since day 1 and it doesnt matter how many times I turn chat on and off it only works sometimes. Usually restarting fixes it for a game or 2 then poof no one can see each others chats. Played some with 4 friends today and it was totally random as far as who could see each other typing.

This makes in game trading really difficult in and already tough game to trade in. Needs to be fixed.

I fixed it for myself. The problem for me was in the Battle.net Account page on the site. Go into Privacy & Communication and enable Text Chat. Don’t know why tf this was even disabled. I didn’t do it. I’m betting none of you did either. Hell, I didn’t even know the chat in Blizzard games could be FREAKING TURNED OFF COMPLETELY via a website’s account settings. How utterly bizarre.

This was previously suggested and for most of us isnt the issue - glad to hear yours works now though.

All of mine is enabled by default so that doesnt seem to be the issue for me. Like I said, it works half the time then just stops working. Definitely needs some attention from blizz.
