Trying to get an SOJ. Is it futile to do this on 1 player?

SOJ is one of the few things left that I need on my main character now so I have been hitting nightmare Andariel pretty hard to get it. I have done 370 nm Andariel runs so far. I found 5 unique rings, all nagels and manalds.

Anyway, this is on Bnet, not single player, so I can’t set the player number. I don’t want to be a jerk and MF in games where people are trying to get their quests done, so I’m just doing this by myself in each game. Does it really make a huge difference between 1 player and 3? I’d like to at least know this isn’t totally futile to even try.

If you’re playing on bnet, it’s a better idea to go after a general MF route (Hell Meph, Ancient Tunnel, the Pit, etc…) and get other runes/set/unique then trade for the SoJ instead of just aiming for a specific item.

I’ve gone entire seasons without seeing one drop. But here’s a trick that MAY help:

Remember that a unique can only drop once in a game. You know Andy has a good chance to drop it, BUT unique rings also drop from the other bosses and random mobs. So I kill Andy last. Meph, Chaos & D, walk the WSK and kill Baal.

I’ve gotten more than one unique ring drop in a game several times this way. If one is a nagel then the other will be… probably another friggin manald, but you’ve removed one option

I really hope it helps. I at least clear Chaos first.

There is another way to do it. Just farm meph/ andy and go to the next game. Keep doing it. The math around the difference between 1/3/5/7 for SOJs depends on the number of players in your group/ close, so unless everyone is close to you, you never really get the 7 player benefit.

For example… on players 7/8, in a 1 person group, with 125 MF, Hell Andy has a 1:1170 chance to drop SOJ. in an 8 player group it actually goes down to 1:1922, but NM Andy has a 1:1120 chance to drop it.

It took someone here around 480 NM Andy runs to do it, I have no idea if he was on P8 or not.

I’m actually going to start doing it soon as well because I’d like to see how hard it is to get a SoJ and to see if I would be willing to sell it for an Anni.

Getting one in 480 runs seems pretty lucky to me. I’m approaching that number and still haven’t seen one, but I found a site called Silospen’s D2 drop calculator and if the numbers posted there are correct, I have about 6 percent chance to get one in 100 runs…and 75 percent chance to get one in 1000 runs… I guess the best thing for me to do is try to get the runs done as quickly as possible and keep going lol.

You need way more MF. 1 unique ring every 100 kills? I get one every 20 or so.

I would farm hell Andy instead. She actually drops items outside of the SoJ that are hell viable, some of which you could simply trade for an SoJ. Target farming is a fool’s errand.

I think nm andariel has 1 in 6000 chance to drop it, so its better to run hell normally, and trade for it with the items you drop

RNGesus is RNGesus. Pray moar.

(Not trying to be dismissive, but it really is what it comes down to)

Best place to get a soj is Andy nightmare

what he says!!!

Technically yes, 'cause Nm Andy drops only 3 unique rings. Still, in Hell she has a lot larger drop table and there are lots of items that have decent market value even if you yourself don’t need them. That’s why it would be more logical to do Hell Andy and Meph in the same run.

That’s surface-level, single-minded thinking.

Hell Andy drops many other items of value that could be traded for the runes to buy an SoJ. If your goal is to get an SoJ and not necessarily to drop it yourself, the most efficient way is by farming hell Andy.

Yes, technically on a spreadsheet NM Andy has a higher drop-rate. That doesn’t mean it’s the best path to an SoJ.

I have found two Sojs so far. This is all I do on repeat:

Pindle > Meph > Andy > New Game

It is very quick to do and they drop good stuff

Some people are not into spending hours upon hours of traiding, or don’t want to use jsp.
If you want to get a SoJ to drop while mfing the best place to go is andy nightmare.

If you want to have a chance to drop other stuff as well that only drops in hell, well, no brainer, do andy hell

Pindle meph Andy is super easy for any sorc (mine is fire)

I dont even think I could solo clear chaos or baal without chain dying but I can kill hell meph in 5 seconds and Andy in 4 fireballs.

Not futile at all. I found an SOJ in act 1 nm and I was playing solo.

You just need a bit (or alot) of luck.

Target MFing is a fool’s errand. It rarely works out. Meanwhile you could be killing Hell Meph And getting plenty of things to trade for a SoJ.

If it still works like it did in one of the old patches, get each lower ring together on one character somewhere in their inventory or personal stash and gamble rings, you will only receive unique rings that aren’t in your inventory. 50k g per will drain your stashes pretty quick, but its easy to replace right?

You must also sacrifice 100,000 hell bovines to complete the RNGesus appeasement ritual.
