I have played SSF on D2 many years never had problems finding what i needed… The game is made to be this way (hard to find what you want) it makes D2 what it is and why nit has been around so long and why i still play it!!!
Without any further explanation, I’m going to disagree.
I’m not saying the game’s itemisation is perfect though, because it’s far from it.
So I would instead suggest some other changes that would make the existing rerolling recipes less daunting:
Remove some (lower) affixes from higher ilvl items to improve the odds of good drops/rolls
Make the rerolling rares recipe use only 3 perfect skulls instead of 6 perfect skulls. Not only this instantly halves the resources needed, it will allow rerolling 4x2 rare items
Well, explanations would be welcomed - the recipe rerolls the item completely, and is biased towards ‘worse’ affixes, that’s why I find it mediocre; at least that is what I’ve observed during grand charm reroll sessions.
Changing the recipe 6xPerfect Skull + rare item to use just 3 skulls is a good idea.
I would say that’s intended by design and part of the end game. Short of repeatedly killing Nihlathak, rerolling grand charms is the only other way, and a much faster way of getting those high end charms with +45 life.
Even for some items that can be gambled, getting a jeweller’s diadem of speed is more efficient from a market economy perspective by rerolling them instead of gambling for them, and significantly more so if you’re trying to get a 60 defense diadem version.
The suggestion of removing some affixes from higher ilvl items would make a big impact. For example, if you assumed each affix had the same spawn frequency and if you had:
100 prefixes
100 suffixes
With a total of 10,000 combinations
Stripping out say 15% of each type of affix will change this to:
85 prefixes
85 suffixes
With a total of 7,225 combinations
For rare items, this would be even more impactful:
100 prefixes
99 prefixes
98 prefixes
100 suffixes
99 suffixes
98 suffixes
With a total of 941,288,040,000 combinations
Would change to:
85 prefixes
84 prefixes
83 prefixes
85 suffixes
84 suffixes
83 suffixes
With a total of 351,198,464,400 combinations
On the topic of rares, you can see from these numbers how needed it is to drop the rerolling rares recipe from 6 perfect skulls to 3 perfect skulls. I would even argue 2 perfect skulls would be justified.
You mean inscribe your name? You can use that to repair an ethereal item^^
By useless affixes I meant something like “Attacker takes 2 damage”, “Light radius”(that had more use in Diablo 1, both high and low value), stamina affixes, knockback on non-missile weapons etc.
