According to sale numbers, D3 sold 30 million copies whereas D2R sold 5 million copies. The real data points to around 6X, not 10000X.
Ah I see, my hyperbole was not very obvious. Ok if you really want to be more accurate then:
30 mill X $30, we know it was a $60 game but just so people can appreciate the difference
5 mill x $40, we know there were plenty of $20 sales but again just to appreciate the gapâŚ
$900 mill vs $200 mill. It is pretty obvious why d3 still gets significant updates.
I was just messing around. Yes, D3 was a more successful game in terms of sales no doubt about that. The suits are happy.
I canât wait to watch Llama vs Teo in an actual legitimate ladder race. And finally players like Mekalb will be able to actually compete instead of quitting 2 days in because of how pointless a âteamâ based leaderboard is.
Instead of a dead Twitch section, it will be active every season. FeelsGoodMan
Itâs interesting that Blizzard, around that time, considered the game a failure and attempted to completely redo how it worked. Itâs too bad that Blizzard doesnât exist anymore.
^ This. That is one of the main reasons why I stopped playing D3 because I got tired of trying to join a game only to have the timer hit 0 or whatever and just put me in a game by myself. I wasnât a hard core player but I could do games in the higher torments. Just no one ever around in public games.
Unlikely itâs coming to D2R unless they also introduce pX online (or at least for the ssf). Such a change, regardless of the direction will likely require more dev effort and perhaps a PTR. While I wish to hope for the best for everyone who likes the idea of an SSF⌠I remain skeptical
Why d3 got solo self-found mode and we dnt have it on d2r? I hope we get one as well or im gonna be mad! Plus d3 got a Huge list of updates in those patch notesâŚ
Yo, the large amount of updates for d3 makes one hope for more than a maintenance patch for d2r
Heck, I might actually dust D3 off for thisâŚ
Capping Paragon is long overdue, unfortunately they waited for the game to die before doing it. Capping para also makes SSF a bit redudant tbh since everything else is acquired rather easily solo.
Im also really hoping one day we have SSF in d2r !
SSF with playerX command would be amazing ngl.
Edit: Also, itâs kinda funny af that D3 is about to get better season than D4 LMAO
Just posting to post my agreement so that maybe a dev stumbles across the message and see how many people want this.
So, the one who want SSF please explain to me, you want to compare/compete with others where the goal is to gear your character yourself(I get that, itâs fun). However how are you gonna compare with others? There is a leaderboard but that is for levels (I canât imagine that is why you want a SSF), so how exactly are you gonna compare/compete with others?
I imagine it gets its own ladder. Competition doesnât necessarily have to be a concrete numbers game. In any shared online experience with a ruleset in place and obstacles to overcome, there is a degree of competition. For instance, HC doesnât require a HC server. Anyone can do a personal challenge on a regular server and just delete their character when they die. But doing it where the shared experience automates the death adds a feeling of taking part in something with others. Maybe itâs just purely psychological, but a lot of people are interested. Maybe some people like talking about how theyâre doing on their SSF journey in twitch chats. Or in discords. Or the broken lobby even.
100% great comparison
Itâs not fair to boil it down to solely competition, itâs much more than that like Bodach pointed out.
Exactly, people will play it with no intention of placing in the top leaderboard, but they will still come out with a different experience had they just simply selected single player.
Yup, if a Barb player finds a Bonesnap in an SSF HC barb playthrough, theyâll be excited to share that with other Barb players.
So to sum it all up, it has potential to create a stronger Diablo community, instead of it withering away like it has for the last few seasons.
For example, the guy that placed #2 in SCL Season 3 (Zasteri), didnât bother to play after that. I asked him if he will play again because I enjoyed watching his high level gameplay, and he said âif they do anything to make a season look funâ. This would make a lot of people play for years.
But these types of streamers already exist, there are multiple SSF players who do holy grail and etc. Adding SSF is not going to launch some resurgence, only a handful of people care compared to the majority who donâtâŚ
Most people wonât care, youâre right. SSF is always the less popular mode when a full trade mode is also offered. But enough care for it to be a worthwhile feature. Like I say, you donât need a HC mode to have HC. Just delete your character if you die in SC. But having an actual mode creates a communal event, even if just psychologically. If itâs not your thing, like it wonât be for most people, then nothing changes so itâs not a problem.
SSF makes way more sense in d3. I just wish they do more than they are currently doing for d2, the gameplay loop is boring.
