Skills Hotkeys on Keyboard

Why we’re still bounded to mouse clicks to cast spells? Its so bad we cant press “x” and cast a teleport… Or summon a skeleton with “a”? Just random examples… I think controllers can do that. Why keaboards aren’t?

Isn’t that exactly what F1-8 or whatever is for?

It’s to bring back the “old-time” feel on the ORGB.

So that we can’t have an aura on while teleporting and such? Unless we still bind skills to either side so cant be together I suppose could work?

Enabling the skill/action bar for KB+M is one of the more frequently seen types of feedback in beta. A lot of us thought it was more than likely going to be a thing when we first saw it for controllers.

The current KB+M UI only allows hotkeys to change the left/right button and then you have to press that mouse button to actually use the ability. You can also re-bind them to any keyboard/mouse keys you want, but the functionality is still the same (unless you use a macro to use the button and click in the same press).

With the controller action bar, simply pressing the key uses the ability immediately.

Wow, outdated in my play says I and in the mechanism. So used to games where you press Fx and it does Fx. Not “then sets that to the next press.”

Surely that is a QoL issues and should be addressed. I’m imaging WASD with W meaning the next time you press O you move in a circle.

I honestly don’t think something like that is necessary.

I would like to have it, without a doubt.
But there are more important bugs and problems that affect the gameplay and the player experience.

The invisible maps, doors and stairs. Enemies that are camouflaged with the environment and it becomes impossible to see them.

And we only know the problems until act 2.
We do not know what kind of problems we are going to encounter from Act 3 onwards.

Exactly!

Its a just a matter of gameplay quality its not even QoL; Just imagine, in lets say another blizzard game, wow, you NEED to press f8 to SELECT blink with your mage then right click a spot. Its just bad game design, or outdated, call what you want.

I’m also surprised this has been implemented yet.

The most annoying, is that it’s implemented, BUT FOR CONTROLLER ONLY. WE PLAY D2 ON KEYBOARD + MOUSE.

“Another key piece of accessibility is key bindings. Allowing players to set their station fully is critical. Our control scheme for controllers allows for heavy amounts of modification, and we support a long list of bindable actions for the mouse and keyboard. We provide twelve bindable keys and allow all actions/skills to be assigned in any way the player desires. To support this, we’ve even created new bindable neutral skills like interact, allowing for complete customization.”

I actually thought that quote was confirmation that you would be able to cast spells on the keyboard, but apparently not lol.

It seems like an obvious inclusion, if only to offer parity with the controller. While I am quite used to the classic control scheme (and let’s face it, most builds use so few skills it hardly matters), it nevertheless felt more fun and immersive to be able to have access to more of your skills more easily (on the controller).

Yes it is, too make the game more accessible to the disabled. It is what they said they would do in their accessibility blog post. I was disappointed that it didn’t make it into the beta.

So what are we asking for here… Because hotkeys are already a thing, you want to press a hot key and have that skill just, go off?

Currently M&K only have 2 active skills, while controllers have 4. The request is asking for M&K to have 4 active skills as well.

Yep. It’s simply antiquated and inefficient. It also complicates/indirectly dissuades you from using a variety of spells knowing you’ll have to perform up to 2 keystrokes for each cast. There have been plenty of times I didn’t choose a new spell and instead kept pumping into an existing one because I didn’t want to go through the annoyance of select-then-cast for it.

That’s literally how every modern ARPG works. And it’s simply superior to the Diablo 2 cast system. Casting the spell you want in 1 stroke is better than 2 strokes. There’s no reason for it to stay the way it is.

Ok cool, well you will have to adjust for D2. Its not that difficult to left or right click and press an F key at the same time to cast efficiently.

I doubt Blizz will ever dedicate the resources needed to redo a full cast system in a game from 2000… I would rather them get the remaster right and put their focus on real issues

They already did redo the cast system, they just only applied the new interface to using a controller, while leaving M&K with the old system.

Im sure they had no choice but to do this for console and controller, since they wanted that market.
