But they have the new interface, why not make it available to K&M players as well, even if the option for it isn’t on by default?
Yhe controller has 6 (the four buttons + L and R shoulder pad - all 6 can be bound to directly throw a spell/skill) - The keyboard/mouse should simply just be able to also chose to bind it. The best way would be to simply chose between legacy (old) style and modern style - where you then would use the skill you hotkey when the key is pressed rather than just letting left/right mouse button map the said skill. that way people wanting the old style is happy, and people wanting the usual way is happy - it will not take anything away from the purists
My guess is that this is a pretty likely addition to KBM, since it’s already in the coding for the controllers.
I can see the argument against it (more keystrokes takes more coordination/skill than simply press-to-fire hotkeys do), but it doesn’t really make any sense for you to have this functionality by plugging in a controller when you don’t have it by using KBM.
I am all for a skill hotbar. Don’t think we will get it on launch. Hope it will be added later
Rod said last week “not at launch.” Disappointing, because their accessibility blog hyped up key binds like we were getting it. Hopefully they add one post launch, it would be the second feature implemented for my top three wanted things for D2R (first being the ungating).
Can I get the quote from rod with regards to keybinds?

Any chance keyboard/mouse players can get an update that will enable more than 2 skills to be equipped at a time? (Like Diablo 3)

Great, thanks for this.
NP. I replied my disappointment as well. I think that they know it is a wanted feature. Probably have more important things to focus on for making launch deadline, as well as wanting to put more focus into controller support to ensure it is smooth as possible (and Rod himself enjoys controller more, both here and on D3).
Yeah this is one of those areas where I don’t think “archaic controls” needs to be seen as part of “core D2”.
My fingers would be pretty pleased if I could bind skill-action together, heh. I guess that holds for a few of us geezers, for sure.
Yup. When I first seen the accessibility blog, my mind was thinking of skills I rarely used because of the awkward skill switching system. Was super bummed to not find it in beta then to see Rod say not at launch.
They added it to the controllers, telling us this is staying true to the original is PURE BS.
Yup. I hope we get it eventually.
That’s weird… It is already easiest with a controller on PC, so it would be the same with a KM…
I mean… you can literally just bind whatever keys you want to spell binds then bind the spell to the hotkeys then either use the hotkeys or use mousewheel… you can rapidly move through them without excessive movement.
This needs more attention I think.
It’s not just about the quick casting, it’s about the quick visualization of what skills are bound to which button, especially when switching classes. If the skills system is modernized for controller (necessary evil for console, I know), then it should be implemented on keyboard for full accessibility (optional, of course).
I would only really need the extra buttons on kb/m for buffs. as a paladin with cta for instance you switch weapons, cast the 2 shouts, then hit holy shield, then go back to your aura. as a sorc you do the shouts then your armor/ms or whatever. but for actual abilities? i think its fine the way it is.
You do realize that people with hand issues having too do an extra motions can be a literal pain. That is why I was hoping for the hotbar and quickcast support being in the game. It would make it less painful for me when playing.
Looks like we’re not getting this at launch. Really disappointed in them going back on their accessibility blog.
