It’s true, D2R deserved/deserves so much better than what it got. The graphics and sound and everything, the actual remaster or resurrection or whatever you wanna call it, is great. But those first two months, and even to this day, were a true dumpster fire that probably turned 50% of people who purchased D2R away from ever playing it again. This experience has been a prime example of Miyamoto’s quote " “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad” while it’s not exactly the same, that is the quote that sticks out with me the most. Yes they’ll continue working on the game and trying to fix some things and whatnot, but the (massive) damage to D2R has already been done.
Exactly - and even if we still had this amount of time - I would rather play like 8 hours of Civilization than killing the same boss over and over again, it would drive me crazy lol while I wouldn’t even notice how time flies by when I play Civ.
I’m kind of on a retro trip right now and I’m having a lot of fun playing classic games like Max Payne or Star Wars Rogue Squadron, you can set yourself little goals, you have some fun and get rewarded by finishing specific missions, or earning some medals etc.
And yeah sometimes I just want to kill some demons in Diablo, I want to let some corpses explode and just have some fun, the items I might get are just a little bonus on top of that but as soon as I notice I’m forcing myself to play this game, I rather stop because it feels like a waste of time
Most people already built their characters and are waiting for Ladder. It only takes a few months for most players to do this so yeah a bunch of people left but many will return when new changes and Ladder start. This isn’t a game that is like WoW or other MMO’s where you need to keep playing non-stop to make your character good this game came out before those kinds of predatory practices where they put a carrot on a stick 24/7. That being said some people are still crying they do not have a ber rune or anni still.
how many times have you refund`? you keep playing, and still cry
you have much FG. els you would not be here…
this is a global server right? My list annoyingly refreshes itself every 5 seconds with a complete list of new games and only a few have 1 player in it, most are 3-7
not necessarily. many stopped playing when ladder got announced and maybe even many didn’t even start playing because they wanted to start directly ladder. For some there is just no reason to play non ladder and they didn’t think it takes more than 4 month to release ladder.
Honestly, a ladder only do so much to the content that is available. Uniques and sets are very quickly worthless and then everyone needs to farm those 1 in a million drops. That is probably not much fun for most people.
Certainly lacking end game / rewards that would glue people to the game. I mean in LoD we had at least pvp and baals going, but in d2r that seems to be quite dead as well, at least outside of organized communities. Maybe i am just too old for this shiat now lolz
I love arbitrary percentages.
Even if the ladder comes the Best I’m going to do, is get to an insight, get tired of having no carrot to taste beyond that… Then move along in a month. Same story for 15 years.
Fix the drops and you’ll retain people like me for longer than a month.
I’d imagine if the economy wasn’t catered towards E-bay sellers, I’d probably stick around for 3-6 months at a time instead of just 1.
As it stands, even if the ladder comes. I’ll probably stay away at this point, until I hear word of the drops being catered to NORMAL people, instead of requiring normal people to turn into an 8-hour a day 2nd job.
Yeah, the best approximation we had was 97%
Poe started around the same time
D2R lost 97% twitch viewership
Poe lost 90% of viewership
Poe also lost 90% steam players
So instinctively you assume that D2R lost 97% players
Both are metrics for the interest of the game
Fix the drops and you’ll retain people like me for longer than a month.
Fix? I think you mean increase the drop rate, right? Then what? You will still get bored. Diablo 2 was never about finding all the best loot. It was about the chance to find the best loot. That is really the only endgame, aside from PVP, that D2 offers. Chasing after loot. It is like gambling, but instead of using money to roll the dice, you use your time…
If they increase the chance of finding loot so everyone can just have it all, you kill the game since this game is really about the journey, not the end. Anything that makes the end come sooner will take away from that journey
If you think this game is so fun with all the best loot, create a single-player character and create all those items you want and see how much fun it isn’t.
If you want to see how fun this game would be with increase drop rates, download a mod that increases the drop rate and see how much fun you have in single-player when all the loot is no longer rare.
Last I checked, the market is flooded with games that offer everything D2R doesn’t, but there is only one game that offers everything D2R does and that is D2R. It is unique and there is a fine balance to it. Tweaking any aspect will, in the end, diminish the longevity for those who this game actually targets.
The drops are fine
The only issue is that people have nothing to do with them
pretty much this. If all you are looking for is HR and the few niche items that are useful it will always seem like the drops suck. There really is only a few handfuls of Unique items worth saving.
Some making short break
…am here for 20 years. Will follow the ladder call…
ladder reset is coming most people are likely waiting for that now like me, i played for 2 weeks then no point until game is patched and operating ladder
I get that but nah, there’s no denying that the majority of players dipped out.
Odds are we’re going to get personal or instanced loot then the game will have more players then wow so it’s a wait and see
Most people probably accomplished what they wanted to do with this remaster so far. I know I’ll be coming back for 2.4 myself, but I’ve moved on for now. Been playing Grim Dawn. D2R needs quite a few QoL things like a loot filter and a charm bag. I’m glad they’re at least doing balance changes soon though. They really could have had a better launch though also.
All the tourists are leaving, thank goodness. And with them 2/3 of the squalling, hollering and begging, like the players command, the loot is broken, or “this game needs end content, durp!”.
With them gone we are back to D2 regular schedule, but now with better graphics. About time!
With ladder, we will get a temporary resurgence of players. And this is good. Some new activity and some more forum sniveling for a while, reminding us of Big Fish most important quote, “It takes all types of people to make up the world”.
Waiting for ladder.
However the abysmal drop rates of things don’t help.
I dont want drop rates increased, but p8 online would help out for sure.
People love bring up drop rates like they magically got worse in the 20 years the game has been out. Literally nothing changed. Drops sucked then and they suck now. You’re either ok with it or your not. But if your not you mine as well start looking for a different game to play as I dont see them increasing drop rates.
Drops really only suck for HR anyway. If uniques were good in the game that would be less of an issue.
