[Runeword] Obsession should +all 6 or 7 all skills to outplay HOTO/Spirit sword + Spirit shield, which also adds block

Its BIS for DUAL ELEMENTAL builds. Its NOT BIS if you focus on any single element.

This lacks MF, so anyone using dual elements wont use this. Its extraordinarily expensive compared to cheaper MF weapons and weapons that do raw damage %increases.

not bis even for dual element…the 30% from fathom outweight it massively…we’re talking the equivalent of a +7 skills with 5% facet added into fathom
blizz dmg at lvl 35 with fathom 8700 - 9000
blizz dmg at lvl 42 with Hoto 8700 - 9000

+35% to Cold dmg = 7 skill point worth…assuming that dmg is split in 2 elements…thats the equivalent of an orb giving +6.5 skills to 2 elements(+ spirit giving 2 skills since fathom is allow to have a shield along)
thats worth up to 8.5 skills

if cold tree is involve though luck

also did you know that rare magic orbs are also outclassing this thrash runeword ?
+5 to 3 skills of choosing on orb and +2 from shield

if we’re gonna look at fire/light build…there is Eschuta(mostly nice for fire build as 20% to fire dmg is about equal to 3 point in fire mastery)…but for lightning spec not as relevant(equivalent of 1.4 point in light mastery)

dont forget that using a 2H staff equate to get obliterated…that -50% block gonna wreck you…ask yourself if thats tiny extra dmg is worth it(if you favor 1728 life instead of 1503 Life + 50% chance to not take dmg(equivalent of 3006 Life)… then gl to you
if your wondering where i plucked that life amount…lets say
900 base X 92% extra Life
vs
900 base X 67% X 2

the +25% life from obession would not add much on top of 67% from Battle order

basicly what you really gain in term of survival
with obession its 12% vs both magic and melee
with an orb + shield that 100% boost vs melee

conclusion
fathom for + cold dmg + skiller gc for your second element = outclass obession
for light/fire hybrid…while it may not outclass obsession dmg…it certainly outclass it epicly in term of survival

edit: almost forgot to calculate the -stats invest into str…thats the equivalent of like 79 points in less to invest(158 life)…with +% to life its roughly 303.36 life more…which will stil mean your squishy as heck…33% less survival than with a shield

…just to keep in mind though
amy +30 str
armor +20 str(CoH)
anni&torch +40 str
i wont toss a rare circlet along as those are pretty much near impossible to find
but…if lucky or trade for 1(+30 str)…that leave you at at least 29 str away from using a monarch
…nigma on a sorc is also an option if not worried bout your resists while under conviction

Agreed, they need to buff Magic Find on Obsession to 100%, and it would see ALOT more use.

Obsession only makes sense for a staff with +3 on the skill that a sorc wants to use, but it makes it not worth it for any other caster class. It would be great to have it with +5 or +6 to all skills to make it more worth it against the “Spirit + HOTO” combo. Another option would be to add -% to enemy elemental resistance, so it can be usable by Fire Druids, Trap Assassins and others.

Completely unsuprising results. A +5 skills should be the min, considering you have to find a good base as well, while Hota can be socket to any random Fail.

I think people forget just how insanely rare the proper staff with the right mods will be.

Completely agree 100%.

it does less dps than other options

Blizzard, please consider buffing Magic Find on Obsession to 100%, would see ALOT more use. Thanks!

+6 or +7 skills would be insane, that means this thing could do +10 fireball, +10fire mastery, +10meteor. I don’t think that is necessary. I’d support bumping it up to +5 skills to at least make it equivalent to hoto + spirit skillwise.

But honestly I love the idea of making it best in slot mf instead, as some people have suggested, or even make that a roll.

Someone suggested it do 50-90mf along with some +%dmg, I could see making it like, exactly the same as it is but give it a roll of 30 - 120mf. That way, its expensive to make, and can roll from perfectly usable but technically worse stats/mf than occy + spirit, but can also roll with survivability / clear speed very comparable to hoto+spirit but relatively godly mf. That wouldn’t significantly impact the meta too much, but would make those godly staffs with investment of a zod and an ist rune potentially worth the big bucks, for those who want to really optimize their pvm/mf build. That would even make it worthwhile for non sorcs to use. Otherwise the only realistic use for this runeword is for a sorc with a gg staff base.

Someone hasn’t played D2 long enough to see some dank white Staves with nice stats.

it already gives +7 to up to 3 skills.

there is no need to power creep things. Keep Obsession as is.

Nerf spirit tho.

It does not provide enough for the cost/difficulty to obtain compared to other options which are cheaper and easier as well as more performant.

Completely agree and buffing Magic Find on Obsession to 100% would be a good move in the right direction.

Blizzard, please buff Magic Find on Obsession to 100%. Thanks!

why would you use 200 fcr on cold sorc tho?

No.
Spirit in weapon should be changed from:
+2 to Skills
to
+1 to Skills

Spirit in shields should be changed from:
+2 to Skills
to
+1-2 to Skills
