ok so i’m really confused here.
in hc online multiplayer on d2r i did this:
bought a 2 socketed white chainmail from fara in act 2.
put a tal rune followed by an eth rune into it.
I expected this to produce the stealth runeword but instead both runes were socketed into the armour as though runewords aren’t a thing.
after the runewording the chainmail changed to blue colour and is called mechanics chain mail or whatever. mechanics something idk.
anyway the point is i did everything correctly, did i not?
and yes it was 10000% white from fara when i bought it.
and now its blue and has mechanics prefix after being socketed with the runes.
is this a bug, or did i do something wrong here?
i feel certain this is a bug.

I’ve made a ton of stealths and didn’t come across this issue. You definitely want to make sure that you didn’t just buy a mechanics chainmail instead. Make sure that you stuck it in the right order as well. As Tal Eth is the runeword. Not Eth Tal.
It’s hard to say if this is just a mistake or if it’s a real bug. So it’d probably be better if you screenshot it.
I am a Russian player. I am writing through a translator. The same problem with runes. There are screenshots.

same here i made a stealth in a scale mail or whatever its called and it didnt make a runeword im assuming it can be made with any armor
Just tried 2 differant rune words today on NM equipment and both failed to produce the proper item.
Stealth (Tal+Eth) failed to work on a white 2 socket serpentskin chest. Instead of giving me Stealth, it turned it blue giving it the prefix mechanic’s.

Lore (Ort+Sol) failed to work on a white 2 socket War Cap. Again instead of giving me Lore it turned my item blue and giving it the prefix of the first rune inserted.
This problem did not happen yesterday when I made Spirit (Tal+Thul+Ort+Amn) using a normal Difficulty white Crystal Sword.

Runewords don’t work in magic (blue) items. Mechanic’s is a magic prefix that gives 1-2 open sockets and it can’t be used for runewords. NPCs can sell both grey items with sockets or blue items with sockets so you have to be aware when buying one.

Aint the item Grey, NOT white for sockets (same color as etherals). Item CANNOT be Magic (blue), Rare (Yellow) or Unique (Gold). Has to have EXACT number of sockets (no more, no less).
Same here. bought 2 socket plain jane and now after adding Tal Eth , its now Blue “Mechanic’s ring mail of the jackal”. Runewords not working.
I just tried to make insight with a grey spetum and it just socketed the runes Ral, Tir, Tal, Sol.

Spetum is a spear. For Insight you need a polearm.

Can anyone say what i did wrong? I used 4 socket battle hammer for Heart of the Oak and it did nothing. Order Ko+Vex+Pul+Thul
a spetum is a spear and not a polearm
a battle hammer is a hammer not a mace
both of you got the types wrong

But it says mace class on it, not hammer
https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Hammers
Clubs, maces, hammers and scepters are all labeled “mace class” in-game, but the four weapon types have distinct properties.
Ok thx, but i think it shouldn’t work this way.
Same thing happened for me, tried to make Lore on a grey normal 2 socketed helm and it become a “mechanic’s” instead, wasted my ONLY SOL rune.

Same here. Tried to create a Lore helm. But only got a “Mechanic’s bone helm”
my sol rune!
Mechanic’s is magical affix, runewords will not work in those even though it had the exact sockets for the runeword.
