The FHR change in Patch 2.4 was mainly to prevent stun locks by assassins. But apparently the devs don’t play this game, so they didn’t know that lots of other chars also relied on putting opponents into FHR to gain advantages in PVP (like barbarians, smiters, druids, fire sorcs etc). The collateral damage is so huge that it has almost destroyed the entire D2R PVP experience
Duelings in 2.4 are definitely on the boring side compared to 2.3 as every char can just non-stop teleport and spam skills free of the threats from stun effects like mind blast, leap or smite and can easily get away from a stomp without losing too much health. A duel between necro and druid can now take 20 minutes or more if both players are skilled and make few mistakes (the duel between a top necro and druid on DFC 25 on this past Friday (22 July) literally lasted 2 hours which was so tiring for both players and audience)
Therefore, the PVP community really need the FHR to revert back to what it was in 2.3 to make D2R PVP great again. But we also don’t want to have assassins dominating most of the PVP games like 2.3 by just spamming mind blast. So here is a suggestion:
- make mind blast defense-checked and blockable
Similar skills like barbarian’s warcry checks opponents’ defense and block rate before hitting them with damage and stun effect, so there is no reason why mind blast must always hit and be unblockable (noting it also ignores amazon’s avoid/evade)
With this simple change, assassins won’t always stun lock every opponent by one right click on the mouse and will face decent amounts of trouble from chars with higher defense and max block, while FHR remains and every other char can enjoy D2R PVP again in its original flavour
