Removal of WASD movement before Season 9

Hello everyone

The team has released a patch to remove/disable WASD movements before the start of Season 9. We know there are some issues related to this and we want to make sure they did not impact the season start.

Just a thought if Blizzards attention to the game over the past two years and counting is indeed the “norm” from here on out… If Blizzard is going to make changes that require extensive testing, why not release the updates say, two weeks or a month before the ladder restarts? If PTR testing is out of the question, we the players can certainly do testing, but we’ll need a bit larger of a timeframe than three days to test and give feedback. IMO the last month of the ladder doesn’t really matter much anyway thanks to botters, and I think would be perfect to do some testing. A larger timeframe of course would give Blizzard an opportunity to do some tweaks to fix any problems rather than just reverting.

Why even bother anymore :skull:

Because even Blizzard didn’t know about this season until some intern put a not in the suggestion box during one of their 4 hour diversity meetings(between chai latte breaks 1 and 2) that PoE 2 was launching.

Bring back Vicarious Visions please. They put love in their games which is hardly seen nowadays but it went downhill with D2R when they got closed.

Their suggestion box for this game has been like this for the most part:

I’m not sure my comment matters but, please consider adding it sometime in the future. I don’t really care about the timeline since I’ve played for 20 years and I’ll likely play for 20 more, I just think it’d be a great long-term addition for us.

Thanks Pez have a great day. Sorry you have to be the bearer of bad news.

Hopefully never comes back

WASD movement on D2? LOL heresy.
No thanks blizzard, we don’t want it. Leave that in WoW. D2 is not that type of game. It’ll just be another option to disable, lest it interfere with the hotkeys I’ve been using for 20+years. Kids these days and their silly movement schemes.

There have always been botters. On th DAY of a new patch, there will still be botters. Just play the ladder man, the botters will just be judged silently as long-term noobs as they always have been. Everyone can tell who on the top of the ladder is a botter. Just by seeing how fast they get to 99.
The top several spaces of ladder have been “the hall of forever-noobs” for probably 20 years my friend. I hate them , we all hate them. But generally they are very helpful for the people in NL, because they just completely dump all their bot chars and many people get their decent gear that way. NL thrives because of the Ladder dying. Ain’t that something.

…

I wasn’t really talking about botters, I was talking about an ideal time for Blizzard to release patches that may require player testing. Since the last month of the ladder season is meaningless because of botters, that would be an ideal timeframe for testing.

But as far as botters, I understand how you feel.

Y’all want love in your game? A company that hears players? WASD movement?

Path of exile 2 is coming out, it is the best diablo could ever dream of being

I was playing D2 for the past 20 years, didn’t even play PoE 1, but it’s time to let it die, because blizzard killed it along with Vicarious

I mean it’s just more of PoE 1… and I was already here over PoE 1 lol. If there are things I don’t want in an ARPG the top of the list would likely include WASD and dodge rolls. If I wanted that I’d go play a souls-likes… a genre I absolutely hate.

D2 stood the test of time due to it’s simplicity. Just like SMB3 will likely always be my favorite Mario game.

PoE2 is just made up from a bunch of different systems from games I didn’t like.

Battepass model + WASD movement + dodge rolls + Batterite type combat + FFX sphere grid + bullet hell bosses.

None of those are anything like D2… a game I really like. I mean games I like mostly include turn based JRPGs, Tactics Clones, Rogue-likes(not Rogue-lites), 2d platformers, Mech games, RTS games, MOBAs (that aren’t called Smite), old school arena shooters, the infinity engine games, etc.

Around the 360 console era every game started moving toward this samey console feel, and I hate it. I get that some people think CoD and Dark Souls are peak gaming, but as someone who has watched all games and genres turn into that same uber-genre over the past 15 years I’m just not interested.

In all seriousness I think my perfect game would be a hybrid of D1 and D2 in something like the D2R engine. I don’t want action dodge-roll combat, and I love top down games that use mouse control.

welp. you killed all my fun, WASD was really a nice addition

I’m not sure why I keep coming back to d2. I’ve been playing for so long…I feel like it’s been 20+ years but I really can’t remember. It’s honestly probably the nostalgia that keeps me going. And if they’d just give us the tiniest bit of love, mostly in the form of QoL and especially for the single player experience, I’d probably play this game for 20+ more years. But as it stands right now, I haven’t played in months. Maybe close to a year. Things like item level being displayed, infinite stash at least on single player (I understand this could cause a problem with storage on bnet), and Stackable gems/runes would go such a long way for me. But they give us nothing we really want and continue with no real updates. It’s kind of heartbreaking. But I think I may check out poe2. Maybe it’s the thing I’m looking for. That’s kind of where I am right now, and reading these forums makes me feel like I’m not the only one. Wake up blizzard, you’ve got a gem here and you’re letting it tarnish.

It was the single addition to this patch and they cut it off.

Could at least leave it in single player… I’m all in for it

This was the only thing I was looking forward to. I just wanted to play with the new feature and see if it was worth coming back for.

Guess I’ll go hop on the PoE 2 train now.

Honestly i do not see the need for the wasd in this game, I would prefer the gem stacking over this anytime. If you like that type of movement check out Sir Whoopass witch has that movement natively and has a hilarious dialog.

i dont think its a terrible thing to add just because we already have gamepad control so why not keyboard movement? Options are options, adding something doesnt mean you have to use it.
