Poison Viper Bug

Hi, I noticed the poison vipers in halls of nihlathak are bugged and no longer do damage like they used to

It’s rather a fix than a bug.
They used to do physical dmg and now they do poison dmg like “intended”, poison dmg now actually deals poison dmg. Well at least the dev’s think it’s “fixed” lol

All I know is they used to do a lot of damage and were very dangerous and this was the intention but now they don’t so I assume it must be a bug

No previous damage was a bug as it was dealing physical damage every poison tick. It was patched in 2.6 as I remember. It was in a changelog

The thing is that people already been crying about it before D2R. The previous developer stated that it is working as intended…

Huh, wasn’t this updated quite some time ago in d2r…

2.3 patch notes:

Fixed an issue where Tomb Vipers’ Poison Cloud attack was improperly dealing physical damage.; the poison clouds now deal proper poison damage

That was intended

Exactly, thank you

I guess they “fixed” it, yeah

By Blizz North for D2LoD yes, by Vicarious Visions for D2R no.

I don’t mind that they fixed it, I think it was poor design for a poison cloud (often invisible ones at that) to do massive physical damage but they should’ve greatly buffed the poison damage to compensate.

I like this opinion. It was my first impression since D2R patch nerfed snakes. From damn dangerous area to being boringly easy to farm destruction keys.

I remember teleporting around in sheer panic when there were snakes with Might/Fana aura/Cursed Nithlatak. Sheer panic.
Awesome times!

It was not uncounterable fight. Equiping flat damage reduction gear and not moving in cloud was key to safety.

I think proper way to “fix” it would be just to slightly reduce the dmg/tick by like 20% at max.

D2R is/was D2LoD, that was sorta the whole point

Can’t fix something that’s not broken

Exactly

Right!

True

That would have been the way

Except it’s not, otherwise they wouldn’t have made changes.

VV decided it was broken, so they fixed it.

Regardless of what you think it’s not going to be changed back, they can’t even deliver on meager “bug fixes” they said were coming lol.

Except it is…there’s even a toggle to play it in LoD mode

Did they say it was broken?

That’s fine, I was just wondering why they were bugged (or, I guess, “fixed”)

Due to the removal of the damage they tuned a normally 45 second key run into a 15 second key run. I like to say they did it to help the low cognition players, but what really happened is the D2R developers didn’t understand the game well enough to understand the reason for the damage, and were influenced by big streamers and youtubers who didn’t know the ladder game very well.

The toggle is irrelevant, it’s only for graphics. D2LoD and D2R are separate games with separate purchases.

Yes, here:

  • Fixed an issue where Tomb Vipers’ Poison Cloud attack was improperly dealing physical damage.; the poison clouds now deal proper poison damage

They were bugged and fixed, yes.

It wasn’t a bug and it wasn’t improper damage. It was removed because the current player base is mostly all low cognition noobs that could never figure out how to circumvent the damage.

Enjoy your D2LoD.

I don’t see the word broken anywhere?

“In coding, a bug is an unintentional error in a program’s code. Bugs can also be called software bugs. They can include logic flaws, syntax errors, or issues with software functionality. Bugs can cause an incorrect or undesired result, such as a frozen screen or an unexplained error message”

If you knew the full history of the viper bug (maybe it can still be found explained on reddit or something) you will know that this utilization of the games code was intentional and intended

“Fixed” that for you

Not playing the semantics game, enjoy the last word. Good day.

I can imagine ! Comparing those “Bugged psn cloulds” , the Destruction Key and Lilith Poison dmg! That was the reason those snakes were soo powerfull because they describe the power of Lilith Poisonand how hard would be to get her Organ , but as you say D2R devs were influenced by big streamers and youtubers! So i also believe this was not a bug!

^Basically this

Blizzard even stated back then that it is working as intended after a bunch of noobs cried about it.

It’s always the same, viperdmg, enigma, infinity, stashspace, /pX “cry cry cry” xD
