it’s a bug. a cloud that uses the same color as poison damage, acting as poison damage, but not dealing poison damage is a bug. its extremely misleading. you guys would say the same thing if you saw a lightning bolt freezing you.
nobody asked for them to make the game easier. they just didnt bother buffing them to compensate. what i think shouldve happened is leave it as physical but change the graphic of it so that people dont think its poison.
It was on the original D2 forums circa 2005, one of the staff at the time named MicahW said the tomb vipers were “working as intended”. I think there might be an archive link floating about but not sure and I don’t care to search for it, mostly just going off what I see in this contemporary post when 1.11 released:
Having said that the last devs from Blizz North were already gone at that point, Peter Hu who was the driving force behind 1.10 had left in 2003 after the patch released so I doubt that this “working as intended” response came from any of the devs, just some community manager guy that got tired of the question on the forums or something.
