I guess I’ll be “that person” and say, you know the original game is still there for you to play? With mods, even? So you really have no right to complain, in this particular instance at least. There’s plenty to criticize about D2R, don’t get me wrong. But it’s still the Mona Lisa at its core

Except in this case, Mona Lisa wasn’t changed, they simply made a new piece of art inspired by the original.
If you prefer Mona Lisa, she’s still there in the form of D2 LoD.

OK, I too find the OP’s logic to be bad, but I find this line of reasoning a bit…disingenuous. Yes, D2/D2:LoD are still available, if you have the CDs or at least the keys. But even if you do (or don’t, but decide you can trust third-party key vendors), is the game still maintained at all – like, from the perspective of guaranteed functionality (honest question)?
Really, it’s not as bizarre as a lot of people like to make it out to be to want Resurrected to be available in a form or mode that is as true to the original as technically possible.
It received a patch and new ladder for its 20th anniversary dude, lol. And Mona Lisa hasn’t been touched at all since creation.
