After looking up how rare the GF is on the drop table and what bosses can even drop it in the first place, heck it – lets go full ham.

Make it drop as eth as a modifier like the ethereal edge, but also slap on 4+ open sockets. Make the tomb reaver sweat a little bit.

Just for fun, lets see how hard this thing would hit with eth, 250%ED, and 5os filled with 40x15’s at level 99…

This only amounts to 494.5 average 1h damage and you are using 4 high value super rare jewels and a Zod to achieve this.

A perfect damage roll phase Blade Grief is 433 average 1h Damage (438 with 15% ED phase blade). The phase blade Grief, even with the low end IAS roll, will still be faster attack than the GF at 75% IAS for a barbarian(10 frames vs 11 frames).

With 4 very rare jewels + Zod + one of the hardest to find melee weapons with a perfect ED roll you achieve 14% higher damage compared to a perfect roll Grief but attack 10% slower. This isn’t even accounting for the +damage to demons or the deadly strike bonuses on Grief. The Grief only costs a Lo rune… :rofl:

The Grandfather is fine.
The melee is broken, because it is reliant on weapon base damage way, way, way too much. For this reason if the weapon does not have 300+ enhanced damage with other goodies on top it is ‘worthless’.
It is the same problem with “Fury” and “Silence” runewords, plethora of exceptional weapon which, when upped, could be pretty dope and even with other elite weapons.

“Fixing” grandfather will not fix the underlying issue.

Or you could change how stats work… You could make Strength and Dexterity add base damage to melee and ranged physical damage respectively.

Currently, Strength adds 1% to your weapon damage per point. Dex adds AR and block rating. I would also suggest lowering the str requirements of bows, crossbows, and exceptional and elite light armor pieces

This is what they did in Path of Exile to almost all melee/ranged attack skills, so they at least scale on level as well and are more reliable without needing god tier weapons’ damage to make the skill do damage.

They just need to make the 4x Standard of Heroes + item (blue/green/yellow/orange) = add an extra socket to the said item (limit one usage per item). This way, non-runeword items have more flexibility and plus the Standard of Heroes items can have some use.

Another pros is simple developer changes.

Yes, that would definitely give value to standard of heros. What if it could roll 1-3 open sockets on said item?
