Lost item during server issue

On my Necromancer, was creating a perfect Topaz in my Horadric Cube when I lost connection to Battlnet and was kicked from my private game. My actual internet did not go out, just the connection with Battlenet. When I got logged back in, the gem and Horadric Cube are both gone. Logged out and back in again, still not there.

If the cube is ā€œin useā€ when the game crashes or DCs it messes with the save state and it vanishes. You lose the cube and the items. Items are gone sadly.

You can get a new cube by going to Act 2 Halls of the Dead in the Dry Hills and getting another cube from the chest there.

Donā€™t keep anything important in it until this is fixed!

Since Items disappear from Inventory and stash as well atm, where exactly are we supposed to ā€œkeep anything importantā€ MissCheetah?

No, not that I know of. Only the cube tends to vanish. People do misplace things but I have yet to see a provable case of items vanishing on their own. The exception would be something you JUST picked up. Your saves are done when you save and exit as well as random auto saves as you play. If you are between saves you may go back a few mins. You wonā€™t go back hours or days anymore though.

There have been some rather unfortunate cases of the death mechanics with accidentally picking up other stuff or getting the wrong corpse. That is working like it always did though.

Thank you for replying MissCheetah. I Hope you are not serious about not knowing about disappearing items since that would mean Devs are not even looking at that issue.

  1. Charms keep disappearing from inventory and storage - #5 by LostSQ-1865

  2. Repeatedly losing items in inventory caused by d2s savefile overflow (filecap at 8192bytes)

And there are more reports, those are just 2 threads from the top page from this sub-forum, gathered in <5 min.

Yeahā€¦
There has been many many instances that Iā€™ve found that have had items just vanish without a trance cause of some issue on blizzards end.
While some are due to the design of the mechanics of the gameā€¦ others are not.
Blizzard wonā€™t take any responsibility for these actions and we the user must suffer for it.

Would have thought that deleted data would have been taken more seriously.

MVPs are just other players so it does not mean Devs donā€™t know. QA covers this forum so i assume they have read those posts.

Something that is an issue for troubleshooting in Diablo games - there is no second by second log showing what happens to items, no combat log, etc. It just snapshot saves the account. There is nothing for the Devs to trace to try and verify reports.

They have to try to replicate it in house then sort it out.

I have not run into it yet, but will keep an eye out.

Deleted means gone. They really canā€™t give it back to you. I know I have explained the details of why before. You keep posting the same exact thing on nearly every post.

You might want to add WHY they canā€™t restore your items. There are are no second by second logs for Diablo games. Without those logs CS literally CANā€™T do anything. This is not a matter of ignoring you or not wanting to. They canā€™t.

They donā€™t know if something is bugged, you sold it, traded it, dropped it, lost it in death mechanics, etc. Without proof of what happened, they will not just make new items for you. People would abuse that to ā€œdupeā€ items.

If you are goign to be this dedicated to posting the same thing - tell the whole story.

thank you for that info

I am very glad all you lost was the Cube - which is a known bug and one you can fix.

I feel really bad for the folks who encounter the death mechanics and donā€™t realize they can lose gear that way. It is SO easy to click something on they way to your body and end up with it auto equipped instead of your actual items which drop to the ground. The Arreat Summit - Basics: Character Information

Multiple Corpses/Losing Items!
A player may have up to 16 corpses.

Realm Characters: The corpse with the most gold value (in items) will be saved between games. So keep this in mind when putting on equipment to recover your corpse. Your original body with your equipment should save unless you manage to equip yourself with a greater value of equipment, die, then leave the game.

Open Characters: Only your oldest corpse is saved between games. Make sure you go back and recover your original body with your equipment before leaving the game.

Warning on recovering your corpse
If you needed +Strength or +Dexterity items to equip other weapons or pieces of armor, you may have to re-equip these items manually. When you click on your corpse, the game attempts to re-equip your items to where they were before your death, but this depends largely on the order in which your items are picked up. For example, armor that requires more than your base Strength will not be equipped if the game attempts to place it before placing the item that increased your Strength enough to wear the armor. In this case, the armor will return to your inventory; if you do not have enough room, it will remain on the corpse. Check your inventory and make sure that all of your items have been re-equipped correctly.

Body Count
Having Difficulty recovering your corpse?
If you canā€™t find your corpse, or if itā€™s too dangerous to retrieve it with your current equipment, simply exit and re-enter the game. Your corpse, and all of its items, will appear near your starting point in town. The only drawback is that you will lose any gold your character dropped when he died and you will give up the chance to regain 75% of your lost experience on Nightmare and Hell Difficulty. This is a good option for Nightmare and Hell difficulties, in which death results in lost experience. The corpse will appear at your starting point, typically near the point where Town Portals appear in town: In Lut Gholein, this area is at the bottom right of town. In Kurast, it is next to Meshif. You should be able to find your corpse easily if you explore the town.

Character Saving/Loading and Corpses
Periodically, Battle.net will automatically save every character playing in every Diablo II game. Your character will also be saved when you choose ā€œSave and Exit Gameā€ from the ā€˜Escā€™ menu. If you die and leave a game without retrieving your corpse, it will be placed in town at the beginning of the next game you join or start.

So what do you want me to do about it?

Should I give them some lessons on how to create a video game with massive amounts of people? I doubt they would listen since they havenā€™t yet.

All we can do is hope that they take some kind of responsibility for their actions. I also hope they learn from this mistake and implement the fixes as needed asapā€¦ yetā€¦ I can only hope as they will not listen to us.

The story is simple. I lost all my stuff due to issues with their productā€¦ So has many many many many othersā€¦ I asked for it backā€¦ they said nupeā€¦ I asked for a refundā€¦ they said nupeā€¦

I would never of played or bought this game if I had known just how poorly it was designed and managed. The amount of suffering this kind of issue causes is far greater than they obviously care aboutā€¦

I just want to make clear, that i didnt lose any items due to corpse/death mechanics but lost many charms due to doing nothing. Logged in and a bunch of charms were gone, thats it for me. That happened 3 times. I dont claim anything to be restored, but l lost any motivation to keep playing since i lost more ingame value the last days then i could possibly gather in that time. So much for my personal motivation here.

It is the same as Diablo 2 (2000) and Diablo 3. The ONLY game they have any restorations of any kind for is WoW. That is because WoW has thosoe second by second logs showing what happens to things GMs can recover item info and assist in some cases.

This has never been possible for Diablo games. Any of them.

It would be nice if you explain WHY they wonā€™t restore the items. Explain how the game saves work, what kind of logs are required to restore items, and why they canā€™t do that.

It sucks to be told ā€œnoā€, but it sucks a tiny bit less if someone understands WHY they are being told no.

Include the whole story - no, they canā€™t restore your lost items for any reason. The game saves account snapshots for Diablo games, not second by second logs. There is nothing to show if your items are sold, traded, dropped, etc. Without logs GMs canā€™t restore gear.

It would take recoding the whole game from the ground up to change that.

  1. Itā€™s not the same. There wasnā€™t this many issues with Diablo 2 (2000).
  2. Blizzard needs to change this. Their issues/bugs are deleting our itemsā€¦ They need to have a method to restore themā€¦ They should have had one in place before even launching the title. They need to take responsibility.

Plus since neither you nore I worked on the game coding aspect (Iā€™m guessing you didnā€™t)ā€¦ then we donā€™t know how much effort it would be to implement the correct code to mitigate this issue.

People should be upset with this issue. Unintentional loss of player data is one of the worse things a video game can doā€¦ yet here is a very very huge video game company just doing it cause it can and getting away with it.

True! You never bothered to explain anything but to blame death mechanics which is just a bad excuse, nothing else.

ā€œOnly the cube tends to vanish. People do misplace things but I have yet to see a provable case of items vanishing on their own.ā€

That is just a blatant lie, unless you go by ā€œnothing is provable, not even existanceā€. I have been very polite here, but if nothing but !"Ā§$% comes as response, i see no reason to continue.

I have to support Nopk here. It is not just about the cube. Please find my experience discribed here:

I have been playing Diablo since 2004 and have hundreds if no thousands of hours of play experience and a thing like that never ever happened in the original D2. Rollbacks or losing items due to having multiple corpses is a completely different topic. In our case, charms and other items are vanishing from the inventory (not the cube) from one game to the next. There seems to be some messing around with the database lately and this bug happened to me 4 times in a timeframe of 1-2 hours. I refuse to play with this game state, so I cannot give feedback if it still occurs.
