Hello everyone involved. I encountered a bug today that ALMOST had me completely uninstall the game and not come back. So story time…
I was browsing reddit and saw a post directed at people new to D2. As I’ve never played before… I read through the post. One of the most intriguing things I came across was that if you died - you could save/exit game and your corpse showed back up at town.
This was HUGE because I have certainly died in places that took me WAY too long to get my corpse back. So I wanted to test this and stupidly did it with my fully geared sorc. and sure enough…IT WORKED. My body was back in town.
Now this is where the bug occurred:
I had an inventory full of charms,potions,etc. When I clicked my body to loot my gear… it disappeared. My corpse was gone and I had NONE of my gear.
So I am not sure what caused this but this REALLY needs to be looked into.
I’ll build a scenario and explain why I asked.
I have a sword and shield equipped and my inventory is full. I try to equip a 2h weapon by clicking on my sword. Now the sword is on my mouse, but my shield vanished because my inventory is full. Upon checking my stash, it was placed in there. Now, I have no clue what would happen if my stash was full too…maybe it would drop on the ground? no idea.
Edit Also, the weird part about your situation is that your gear should have auto equipped. It shouldn’t matter if your inventory was full
I made a game… teleported to baal and then made a tp. The other person in the game came in and made a tp. I had died a few times on the way and then rejoined the game expecting to get my stuff… as is expected… from the classic d2 version…
Welp… got nothing… told the other guy and he said bummer and wanted to make the next baal game… haha… well… yeah… only a first weeks work of work gone… wonder how much that’s worth on the black market.
Anyways… can you help us out here blizzard? restore the items or something… I bet I could even repro the issue…
And yes… I did check my stash and all other areas… even checked all the original spots where I died in the game where I lost it all. Tis a bummer, but tis happens.
Looking more and more likely no items will be returned cause of this issue.
I did some investigation and part of the repro steps is to join a game where you died… so don’t ever do that. A few more steps to it than that, but just don’t do that and you’ll be fine… or so you could hope…
What has left a very sour taste in my mind is that so far Blizzard has done nothing to help those effected by this. Contacted support but it isn’t a clear cut process though the end result was the same. Even if you want to get a refund they won’t cause you’ve played it. I don’t want to play a game where I can lose all of my progress in an instant…
Is this your answer Blizzard? Nothing we the low end consumer can do aside from be disappointed? Making hours of work on that data just lost… I know it can happen again… I know it will… Why won’t you at least help to rectify those effected by it?
I’m sorry to anyone else this issue happens to… but just remember… it is only a game… one that did the opposite of bringing happiness…
