I’ve been playing Diablo II for 20 years but since the lack of Mac support I stopped. I just started with D2R on PS5 and I’ve heard rumors of previously ladder-only runewords and things like the Annihilus charm and Hellfire Torch via the Pandamonium event being available to offline single player characters now, but I’m having trouble finding any official documentation. Blizzard support points me to forums but I don’t see anything specifically mentioned recently (2023) about this.
Is there any official documentation Blizzard put out that says anything about this? Is there a special way to build ladder runewords? For instance, do I need an online character to create the item and then put the item in the shared stash for my offline single player character?
Here’s my experience. I just hit 99 on my Javazon on single player (just for context of how much I’ve been playing), and haven’t spent a second online. I was able to craft Spirit and Grief with no problem, and I’ve done Ubers about a dozen times with a smiter alt. Three shared tabs make it easy to transfer items across characters.
I’m not sure about transferring from online to single player if that’s what you’re asking about, but I suspect that’s not possible. Wouldn’t know, from what I’ve seen online play is a wasteland.
Is there a specific runeword you’re wondering about? Maybe I could throw some runes together to test it, never found a single Jah or Ber because I have wretched luck.
Ladder only - Online
Non ladder - Online
Single player - Offline
Any updates on Ladder only is applied to Single player same day. Only exception is a bug appearing during new patch on ladder affecting single player.
Online items are strictly online and can’t be transferred to Offline. You can access online items on other platforms. While offline is saved on local hard drive.
I don’t remember where I read all this information collected. But it’s known if you ask around.
Yeah, sorry, I should have said “offline mode” on ps5 rather than single player. Apparently there’s someone differentiating the two on the forums, though it’s hard to determine whether there’s an actual difference or they’re being pedantic to troll.
Sorry I missed this, first time posting and not sure how to get the notifications for responses.
I’ve always wanted to level a Frenzy Barb but have always been held back because I think you need some ladder-only runewords like Fortitude or Grief to stand a real chance. I think those are the main runewords I’d want to build at some point if I could, but I’m sure there’s a few others. I also really want at some point to be able to get the charms that you can only find from the pandemonium event.
To be clear, I don’t touch online. I am solely single-player offline. I don’t want to use any online characters or to even share between accounts if I don’t have to. I just want to make sure that if I try to build something that takes runewords that took me months to find that I won’t lose them because ladder-only runewords don’t exist for single-player offline.
With my mac I was able to save the save files and regenerate rolls etc. in a hacky sort of way, but with PS5 I can’t do that, so whatever I do is permanent.
Gotcha. Well I can guarantee that if you make an “Offline” character on PS5, you can craft both Fortitude and Grief, as I have one of each. Just make sure you follow the rules of the runeword. For example, you must use a 4-socketed armor for Fortitude, not a 5-socketed one that you just use the four runes.
OK, great, thank you! I plan on triple checking before making any runeword with expensive runes, but good to know that the older ladder-only runewords are now available for offline.
And just confirming, you have done Ubers successfully and can carry the charms you win off of those (I know there’s a limit of one per each in your inventory at any one time, etc.).
I basically just want to play at my own pace but have access to everything that ladder always had.
It is not true, there is a way to do the same “hack” with the cloud backup feature (assumes active playstation subscription)
Basically, you just have to make sure you have full backup of your game progression data, cloud, USB, whatever PS allows/works. Before you roll just disconnect from the network so no data can override your cloud backup. Make the roll, if you don’t like it just quit and delete local data and get either cloud sync down your last backup or restore from USB, etc.
I am an Xbox user but it should work similarly on PS as well, I made a post about it:
Interesting, I didn’t think about that! Yea, definitely wish there was a builtin way to do this, but good to know I could probably do this with some big rolls.
With my mac, I basically would compare 4 or 5 different rolls and then choose and delete the others. Also allowed you to basically choose different paths, see if an item works out well, etc. (didn’t have plugy so was stuck with the standard size chest).
And just confirming, you have done Ubers successfully and can carry the charms you win off of those (I know there’s a limit of one per each in your inventory at any one time, etc.).
Correct. It becomes a bit of a pain trying to manage multiple ones because they’re unique. Basically they can only be put in the Shared tab.
So for instance, when my Smiter kills them and the charm drops, I have to go back to town, put the current charm in a Shared tab (note: NOT my personal tab), then return to Tristram to pick up the new drop.
