Item Drops Based on Difficulty

Here are my thoughts on what needs to be changed for item drops/rates/runes/charms.

There needs to be personalized loot option that people can activate when creating a game. The reason for this is that would make it more worth while to play with random people and with more people in a game. As of right now no one mf farms in public games next to strangers or even friends because the drops everyone needs or wants are so rare that people are greedy and aren’t willing to work together. Current D2R settings make it to where more than 3 people in a game doesn’t increase the drop chance of any items. Only runes/possibly charms get increased drop rate with 3+ people in a game. With that in mind and know that as a fact that drop rate for actual gear not including runes/possibly charms that means you’re only joining people 3+ for exp and possible runes that you might not even get.

Difficulty should apply to items/runes.
Normal Difficulty: Lvl1-35(Required lvl) Items and runes El-Shael should only drop in Normal.
Nightmare Difficulty: Lvl36-50(Required lvl) Items and runes Dol-Ist should only drop in Nightmare.
Hell Difficulty: Lvl51+(Required lvl) Items and runes Gul-Zod should only drop in Hell.

Currently I am and many others(Ridiculous/Majority) of players would probably agree with me that Farming Hell is extremely annoying because of the amount of Lvl 30 and Below items that drop. For example: All my sigon’s drops have been from Hell. I’ve had so many drop now that I have 5 sets of Sigon’s. 10+ Sets of Isenhart’s and other low lvl sets constantly drop including a butt-load of crappy uniques. I’ve been playing since the game came out, I’ve been farming Hell after the first week. I play an average of 10 hours a day. I kill Andy/Meph/Diablo/Baal/Trav/Summoner/Countess/Nithalak/Cows. An average of 20+ times a day. Could be more I don’t really count. My point is the only high runes I’ve gotten since this game came out have been Jah/Sur/Lo/2xVex. I honestly don’t think that’s enough. I have set to see any Uniques other than 1 Shako. I haven’t seen HoZ/Mara’s/War Trav’s/Arach/SoJ/Andy’s Visage/The list goes on. I’m honestly shocked at how little High level gear is actually dropping. The runes some might say i’m lucky to have gotten what I have. My point is the drop rates in Hell for the things everyone is farming for needs to be increased. High runes need an much bigger drop rate increase. I think Magic Find should apply to Runes/charms. I think High level gear needs an increase in drop rate. Items/runes below what i mentioned shouldn’t be dropping in hell. I shouldn’t see sigon’s dropping I shouldn’t see 10+ ith runes in 5 runs in Hell.

My point is the Drop rates need to be fixed. Restrictions on what can drop in each difficulty needs to be added. Add Personalized loot option that will actually incentivize strangers and friends to actually Magic Find together. Also make it to where 3+ people in a game increases Item drops too. I don’t know why it falls off after 3 people but that’s kind of ridiculous because of how hard it get’s to kill things.

It never gonna happen. They keeping it the same as the original loot table and I like the fact that you actually have to work for gear and its not just given to you like diablo 3

Not going to happen as you would have to rework the ENTIRE Affix and Suffix System as well. Area Level not only affects items base level but the affix and suffix levels as well. 5 resist all for example an a low tier affix but 20 resist all is a higher tier affix.
No, drops are not supposed to be easy.

And you need to go back and refresh yourself how drops work in D2 and D2R and you got a LOT of wrong information there.

Citation needed.

20 keks 4 tals

Yes it does. The more players that are in the game, the more drops there are from monsters. Now this doesn’t guarantee “better” drops, but there are definitely “more” drops the more players are in the game.

I truly hope blizz has no interest in designing the game for people that play 10 hours a day, yikes.

Nope. If hell would drop just lvl60+ or lvl70+ items the loottables would be that small that you loot a griffons, maras or tal armor every 2 hours.

The current and old loot table is the only way D2 works and everyone who played the old D2 knows that and dont want any changes to the loots.

I truly Hope Blizz continues to design games for people who play 10+ hours day. I’m sorry if you have a job and wife and kids and all that, but many of us do not, and we enjoy wasting our lives on gaming all day.

please don’t do anything this person has stated

This is the problem with a lot of the newer gamers these days, they want stuff easily handed to them and “finish” game in mere hours. And so many gaming companies are starting to cater to them as well by making loot drops easier or equipment easier to get where they can play the game for a few weeks then say finished and never touch the game again.

I’m sorry that you don’t appreciate the game for what it is, but what you’re suggesting would ruin the game.

The item grind is what makes Diablo 2 the game it is. If you increase the drop rates, segregate normal/exceptional/elite items to normal/nightmare/hell and add personal loot, the game will not be the same. The very reason for long term playability of the game will be lost.

I know there are some who don’t like what I’m going to say next, but I think it’s valid here: Diablo 3 has your fast progression desires covered.

No it doesn’t. Unique’s and set items stop having an increase in drop rate after 3 people. Sure more items drop with 3+ people in game but that doesn’t increase the chance for Unique’s and Sets to drop. There is no point in having 3+ people in a game when farming for Unique’s or Set items.

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how loot works in D2 in general lol

Here is the stone cold fact that everyone playing needs to accept.

Nothing is guaranteed in this game.

In fact, the odds are heavily stacked against you. You will most likely never find everything you want. You may find enough to trade up, but only after investing hundreds, even thousands of hours into it. It is the endless item finding grind that will either hook you, or you will give up because of it.

Best regards,

No I don’t, I know how loot works in this game. I understand the loot and how it work’s completely. I know it’s random and not guaranteed to drop. https ://dropcalc.silospen.com/item.php?nPlayers=1&nGroup=1&mf=80&decMode=false&mKey=BOSS&diff=NIGHTMARE&qual=undefined&ver=undefined&version=D2R_V1_0
Gives you the probability chance of items dropping including runes. My point is if they change item lvl drop rates to the specified difficulty that would eliminate a lot of low lvl drops. Changing that wouldn’t mean you get GG items and High runes every 2 hours. Just means you’d see a lot more crappy uniques but higher level and if a rune dropped you’d most likely see Gul or slightly higher runes. I’m not saying to change the game like d3 and make everything drop all the time. A lot of you misunderstand that and just complain or tell me i’m a noob. I’ve been playing D2 since I was a kid and have played it for YEARS! I know how the loot works. I’ve seen and talked to other players that state something is wrong with the current loot dropping. Some believe the loot is bugged or the purposely reduced item drop rates and put in coding for lower lvl drops in all difficulties. I doubt they did any of that. Maybe it’s a bug but I don’t know what to think.

I just think the game would be a lot more enjoyable if I saw lvl 51+ items dropping in Hell rather than everything dropping in Hell. Like i’ve stated the best and only good actualy piece of gear that has dropped for me in the over 4000+ boss kills has been a Shako off of a random trash add in Cata 4. Based on the website I linked for probability I should have seen a few more high level items. You ever stop to think why buying items off of websites or buying items for FG on d2jsp is so popular? It’s because the loot in this game is so damn rare to find that no one actually has the time to grind their day away to find what they need. You complain about bots but forget how rare the loot is. If loot dropped more often, just slightly and high runes dropped a little more slightly than people wouldn’t be spending Real Life Money on everything they want. If you want to get rid of the bots and cash website for items and runes, you need to fix the Loot drop tables and algorithms. Adjust the loot table to the difficulties would be a great start. I’d rather see crappy lvl 51+ dropping than lvl 1-25 dropping. I hate seeing gems below flawless drop in hell, I hate seeing Sigons/other low lvl sets constantly dropping from bosses and trash adds. I’m farming hell for the better and higher lvl gear. I’m not farming hell to gear a lvl 9. That’s my Point. Make hell worth farming, otherwise why call it hell? Why not call it Normal ++? Majority of drops are lvl level. I have 400 MF, Magic find practically doesn’t mean crap. Some people live by no MF, other say 172-173 Is the perfect amount. How I got myself geared was trading Torches because I haven’t found items yet to trade for anything.

GoD no, keep the drop the way it is. Its just fine, the game is not even grindy. Hoz / war trave are LOW level gears. Arach can only drop in certain areas ( monster levels) . Learn the game. The fun part of the game is the GRIND.

And no MF should NOT apply to runes and charms.

I truly hope blizz has no interest in designing the game for people that play a few months and then move on to the next game, yikes.

So you got offended and went on a rant to further prove you still don’t really get it do you?

I don’t know what is more amusing, your claims of validation yet missing something so simple in mechanical design of the game or the fact you got so butt hurt.

Your point is you don’t like the system design and that you think you understand it when you do not.

Got it.

You ever stop to think why buying items off of websites or buying items for FG on d2jsp is so popular?

Path of least resistance and people being bad at a video game.

It’s because the loot in this game is so damn rare to find that no one actually has the time to grind their day away to find what they need.

O wow, it’s almost like that was the intended design.

You complain about bots but forget how rare the loot is.

Two points are not related only correlated by human desire of self validation.

I just think the game would be a lot more enjoyable

Admitting this is about your feelings and not understanding how the game works.

I’ve been playing D2 since I was a kid and have played it for YEARS!

So? You and everyone else on the internet who cares?

I know how the loot works.

Obviously not.

I’ve seen and talked to other players that state something is wrong with the current loot dropping.

People believe in the Mandela Effect, does that mean you aren’t in your own reality? No lmao

I don’t know what to think.

lol…

Like i’ve stated the best and only good actualy piece of gear that has dropped for me in the over 4000+ boss kills has been a Shako off of a random trash add in Cata 4.

O look subjective evidence and something called RNG, it’s like magic to those that can’t do math.

If loot dropped more often, just slightly and high runes dropped a little more slightly than people wouldn’t be spending Real Life Money on everything they want.

Are you seriously that inept? If that were even remotely true you wouldn’t see people buying gear in games where gear is showered on them even great gear.

hate seeing gems below flawless drop in hell, I hate seeing Sigons/other low lvl sets constantly dropping from bosses and trash adds. I’m farming hell for the better and higher lvl gear. I’m not farming hell to gear a lvl 9.

Further admitting it’s about your emotions and not the system design.

Magic find practically doesn’t mean crap

It does if you understand math, why do you think the richest people in game never go above a certain amount? Is this seriously that difficult of a concept for you?

If you want to get rid of the bots and cash website for items and runes, you need to fix the Loot drop tables and algorithms.

Yes, because that worked so well in every other game that did that.

I’m not saying to change the game like d3 and make everything drop all the time.

That is quite literally what you are doing lmao

I know how the loot works.

Say it with me this time, no you don’t.

Thanks for the amusement.

imo if anything hr drop rate is too high take the current rate and half it. The game itself is grind lite, when you take the grind out it just isnt fun.

Half of the item on his list is NM drop and he is grinding hell for it. Yes thats a bigger loot pool.

too late, they’re called mobile games.
