Isn't Diablo 2: Resurrected supposed to be a Remaster?

Diablo 2 fans have been waiting a long time for a Remaster of the beloved childhood game Diablo 2.
Would it ever come out? We were all insecure, but we never lost hope that one day it would come.

We waited, and we waited and waited a long time. It took many years. . .
Blizzcon 2021 came, when Diablo 2 fans got news about Diablo 2.
There would be a Remaster, and everyone was overjoyed include myself.

The game was one of my first favorite games, and many of you probably loved the game as much as I do.
I played it for hours. Now we finally get the chance again, and updated graphics version of the game.

The original game of Diablo 2, Is alive because of the Community that kept the game alive. This is probably the fans could get another chance to kill the Prime Evil once again in Diablo 2: Resurrected with an upgraded graphic version of the game.

But some of you want to change things away from the original game.
Changing things or adding new things to the game will make Diablo 2 a non Diablo 2 if you understand.

I and probably several others thought this would be a game for old Diablo fans and for new people who want to play Diablo 2 with better graphics.
It will be wrong to change things and possibly add new things.

Then we can not call the game Diablo 2 If you change everything. Then the game will be completely unrecognizable if things change.

The original game of Diablo 2, Is alive because of the Community that kept the game alive in 21 years. This is because fans should get the opportunity again to kill the Prime Evil with an upgraded graphic version of the game.

Isn’t thist why the game get a new graphics refresh, because of us who kept the game alive all those years.
Had it not been for Diablo 2 Community, there would not have been a newly refurbished game. I want to say thank you!!

Keep the game very original, do not add new things. Let the game be Diablo 2 as it should be. This is probably the reason why the game is the masterpiece in the first place. > This is not a Remake.

Since the original game is still alive, D2 players who want everything to remain the same have that ability even without playing D2R.

Nothing is being changed relative to D2.

This is already a change to the game. As such, it seems to me that you are arguing some changes are in fact ok.

Is it ok to increase stash size?
Is it ok to have characters that no longer expire?

I’ll ask you a different question first

Wasn’t diablo 3 supposed to be a sequel?

History is just repeating itself again. The same people that killed the future of diablo 2 back then are the same ones trying to do it again. They just can’t stand seeing things be popular that they don’t approve of so they try to destroy it all over again even though they already have their precious diablo 3 AND 4

How does the release of D2R “kill” D2? D2 still exists. Nothing changes in D2 with the release of D2R.

Are you okay with shared stash?

Are you ok with characters that do not expire?

The release of D2R in it’s current form doesn’t kill D2. But there’s still more than enough time for the D3 kids to get their grubby hands all over it

The developers have been clear that D2 will remain as is. D2R is an opportunity to fix some things. Graphics, shared stash, player expiration, etc…

I shouldn’t have to say it, but this is the dumbest argument in the world. People advocating to not make sweeping changes to D2R just want what is best for the game, and for it to be faithful to the original. Going back to playing the original is of course an option, but that is not the point of wanting to keep the remaster faithful. Many of us want to continue playing D2 for another 25 years, but with updated graphics.

The only way to be 100% faithful to D2 is to keep D2 as is and playable. D2R by definition is an update (better graphics, shared stash, no character expiration)

So do you support shared and bigger stash? Yes or no?

Yes agreed. Minor QoL tweaks for areas that have clearly negatively affected the game experience for years, are great and welcome, but significant changes in philosophy or tone, are a huge no.

Since diablo 3 is still alive, D3 players who want all of diablo 3 features have that ability even without destroying D2R

So now the question is how do players define minor QoL changes that fixed longterm negaitive consequence?

Let me tell you about my experience as a ranged player who did DPS in D2. I often found myself grouped with leechers tank zDPS who scooped in to get all the item drops using hacks, cheats, and/or physical proximity to get a disproportionate amount of the item drops.

In 8 player game, lets say there is 80 drops. Why not have personal loot where each player gets 10 personal drops. The total number of drops don’t play but equity/fairness is greatly improved.

I am all for QoL stuff that doesn’t impact the overall way the game works. Especially if it already has workarounds or only effects the individual and is optional.

I am not a d3 fan. It sucked. I don’t play it. The notion that anyone who wants anything other than 1:1 is a d3 player is idiotic.

The devs are already making a massive change with ladder season length, so the 1:1 ship has sailed.

It destroys the economy. Give it up it’s not happening

This is a complex topic, so let me clarify a bit more actually. Obviously the dev team has to be extremely careful but I think they are on the right track and we need to ensure they continue this way.

Examples of good QoL changes: Bigger stash, shared stash, no character expiration, ladder rune words in single player, better battle.net security to prevent bots and duping

Examples of bad changes: Charm bag, 3 month ladder seasons, changes to character design, personal loot

I kind of want personal loot, but I don’t think it should actually happen. It’s a weird position to be in.

This type of binary argument/name calling is not warranted. I played thousands of hours of D2 and D3. Both games have major flaws. Both games can be significantly improved.

How does it destroy the economy?

The total numbers of drops remain completely unchanged. The only think that changes is better equity and discouraging hacks and leechers.

I’m not calling anyone names specifically. I am saying the notion is idiotic. We have already breached the 1:1 remaster. So it’s worth discussing. But I see purists in here trying to dictate how things must be, while ignoring it’s already not pure.

We need the balance of QoL without changing how the game feels overall.

Correct, the distinction is that QoL changes made should not affect how the game feels.

Any changes that affects how the game feels should not be made. That might be a good baseline to consider when thinking about QoL changes or any changes whatsoever.

So when you talk about things like personal loot, you have to consider that this might change how the game feels, from a fundamental level. It would significantly affect the multiplayer experience, and change the way you play co-op games with your friends. I am 100% against personal loot. It decreases the amount of communication and collaboration you have with your friends while playing, and reducing communication in a MP game is always bad.

First of all I don’t really care about this equity nonsense it’s a game not a welfare system
And second of all you and I both know anything short of monsters dropping individual loot for everyone will never be enough for the D3 people
