I kind of think of it as these people having a 100,000 person guild/clan. They created the guild, and are the GM. The entire guild supports them to get things done. In that pretense, it’s perfectly legitimate.
But at the same time, it’s new media technology that wasn’t available when the game was created, so perhaps the game should update to fill the game for those without massive streams in order for the average player to remotely be able to remain competitive.
Tell us you don’t have friends in D2 without telling us you don’t have friends in D2…
You clearly misunderstand the mechanic. This is a 2-3 week no life, sit in Baal and Chaos all day for every game to get to 99. It’s a pride race and has no effect on me mfing at lvl 80 and finding a Ber rune.
This is a waste of energy to be mad at other people having different goals and…friends?
Well they could make a solo self found ladder or something. Solutions are certainly worth brainstorming about. Just add a competition where having a massive stream wouldn’t help. It can be done. People like competition. Just introduce more.
Well… as a certain famous blizzard franchise character once said.
“You are not prepared!”
It’s not Blizzards fault you didn’t start building up your circle months ago, and had everything organized and ready to go. I mean you had 6 months. If you REALLY wanted to be competitive you could have been.
Well if it doesn’t appeal to you, simply don’t do it. The current 99 ladder doesn’t appeal to me as far as leaderboards, but to many it does. This is a solution for those people. A solo self found ladder.
I dont think it really matters. It’s not like they’re noobs being carried. They have an insane amount of play time and knowledge of the game. Unless there is some really big streamer who is bad at the game being carried I guess? Maybe it would make the difference between a handful of pros but I’m doubting big time that the people complaining are even remotely close to that playing field. I think a solo self found ladder would be cool myself because I mostly solo any way… but I think the people complaining would still get BTFO in a solo self found ladder by the people they are complaining about. Hell man I’m pretty sure alot of the people complaining can’t solo any way and rely on rushes and baal runs.
edit: “Hell man I’m pretty sure alot of the people complaining can’t solo any way and rely on rushes and baal runs.” I’m mostly speaking of hardcore. most of my experience is there. im sure people can brute force walk softcore ladders.
Bro the ladder never appealed to me, however I’m like top 800 by just playing the game as I normally do and how I know how to play, good enough for me. I don’t need to try-hard 7 this game to prove it.
SSF ladder is a good idea, I just don’t think it’s a ladder then. SSF-Hardcore would be a competitive mode that would be that fix, at least I think.
Yeah people will always be complaining. It can be annoying to see all day, but if companies never had people nagging them, they wouldn’t ever do anything other than the bare minimum. I think a solo self found ladder would be a reasonable addition to respond to the newest media tech where people can have 100,000 guilds to carry them. A normal player can’t compete against that; so now is the time for innovation. A solo self found ladder would be a bare minimum.
Yeah I feel that would be a fix to the few people who measure their worth by the ladder lol
But yelling about Streamers having dedicated people is something that IS the challenge of hitting 99, he’s literally saying “it’s unfair they have people who like this game playing with them”
Brother… I do not want to be disrespectful of people’s feelings … but how is the competition of 1% of the total player-base any relevant for the game? The majority of D2 players does not even care about this 99 grinding festival…
I wish people could open their eyes in any MMO game and stop trying to tunnel-vision at the very end-game competitive scene ( which in all MMO games is lower than 1-2% of the entire player-base a game has ). It’s not even relevant.
Streamers are influencers. They are entertainers. If they start playing the way they like to play ( like most of us ) they would get no viewers. Because who would watch someone playing the same way as they play themselves… Nobody. Streamers focus on things that are interesting to view* and i say VIEW because that’s all it is. Don’t tunnel-vision into their playstyle because even they do not enjoy it - the only reason they keep doing X thing is because people are watching them and generate subs/donations/exposure/expanding community etc. They are a lot of chill and calm streamers who you could easily see they enjoy the way they play and they do not care about this small competitiveness. Some are there for content for the viewers - some things are FUN to watch even for me BUT you can never get me doing it myself ( most boring thing in my life ).
I’m pretty sure the dumbest thing in this thread is the original post about reverting characters and saying that streamers are exploiting the game - newsflash, they aren’t, they’re playing within the game’s mechanics.
The exact same way that people were playing 20 years ago, you get a group together and you try and push one person from that group to the top, it required the same team effort for efficiency then as it does now.
Don’t try and make me out to be some selfish prick who thinks only what I care about matters by the way. You don’t know anything about me outside of one post you read, thank you.
Read the other posts here, you’ll notice that virtually no one cares about the XP aspect of ladder. Yet you’re singling me out like I’m the only one. For most of us who have played this all of our life, it’s about the fresh start.
I think the creator of this thread simply meant that they do not “play with them” … They straight up “play for them”. And it’s true. But you can’t say that’s cheating. Is it cheating that egyptian rulers got remembered for thousands of years ( because of pyramids etc. ) while leaving behind tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands dead SLAVE bodies to complete the construction projects? It sounds like cheating no? But… that’s the way world works.
I came back from a break of D2 because of the update, not ladder. I never really liked how ladder seperated people, and saw it mostly useful for crafting ladder-only runewords to bring into non-ladder. then all my friends were ladder-only players which meant losing everythng after a ladder reset…so this time around, I’m sticking to non-ladder. I might make a ladder char just to craft that sword meant for barbs, but thats it.
Long story short, you are correct. The update to the game is what brought people out of the woodwork.
The thing is, they don’t realise that even if they get a players 8 simulation online, they would have no chanse to complete against the combined effort of a group of real players pushing their leader up the Ladderboard.
