I prefer to WW with my barb. I hear that Grief is hands down the highest damage possible with a weapon. Is that true even for 2 handed WW? Would a Grief CB out damage an Eth BotD CB? Same for Death? I know with WW, breakpoints are important. BotD makes the CB breakpoint but is that negated with Griefs damage even if it doesn’t make the same WW breakpoint? Thanks guys.
I can’t say for Death vs BotD but i as far as Grief goes i dont think anyone makes them into 2 handers. Reason being is that the grief dmg doesen’t come from the weapon dmg but from the add dmg the weapon has, i mean the ability. And that dmg has always the same stats, i think 350 to 400 or something like that. So using two 1handers is twice the dmg then a 2 hander. The weapon dmg itself on grief is super low so it doesen’t matter.
Would the damage on a Grief 1 hander beat the damage on a 2 hand eth BotD sword? Could you realistically run around with a sword and shield and out damage the 2 hander? If so that really does sound broken. There would be no point in 2 handers at all.
Grief dmg is insane. What other wep in the game has 350-400 dmg?
grief doesnt have ed so 2h loses a lot of power, it instead has a lot of flat damage which overall works better on 1h fast weapons. Phase blade is most common as it can get enough slots and has higher base atk speed and since ww only uses weapon atk speed you want your weapons to be fast.
A perfect BotD in an Eth beserker axe does roughly 201-530 damage. it can potentially outdamage a grief. with mana and life leech, it opens up slots otherwise taken by these stats. it can reach max breakpoints for almost any weapon.
And it doesn’t require hunting down a 4s phaseblade, which can be a process in itself. It just needs a socket quest. It is a very solid (and expensive) RW, and is probably superior to Grief overall.
Death can’t reach as high as BotD, but has amazing crushing blow, life leech, and a nice AR boost. the Ctc is just icing and relevant depending on the build. It’s biggest limitation is no IAS, so harder to reach breakpoints.
Grief’s biggest advantage is it can contend with the top RW’s, but cheaper. Simple as that. it doesn’t have the leech on it, meaning you need it from other sources, but again: cheaper. most players will be able to eventually get Grief, but BotD is going to pretty much be the domain of whales/high end farmers due to Zod.
When deciding, you need to take into factor the areas that the rest of your gear is lacking. If rune aren’t an issue, then it’s really not a question: BotD is superior in its top end damage and stat distribution. BUT…grief is so much easier to obtain, and can do the job, so…
You should check out the video in this thread. He gives a pretty good description of what is going on with Grief, and how the damage is so much higher than what can be seen. It really has to do with the +400 (+/-) damage bonus and how that gets multiplied by other items and skills. I have both ebotdz and a grief on my old account and grief always is way more powerful in both PvM and PvP (ww). I use ebotdz for PvM a lot, mainly because it is still great and has all the leech I need (flexible).
Grief no where close to Botd in 2 handerz. If you want to use a 2-hander just use Botd warpike, ghostspear, great poleaxe
2-handed is not as “good” as dual wield, but for PVM it’s a non issue really.
If you are using dual wield for PVM I suggest grief and ebotd zerkers. You can still hit max ias with WW and zerkers have better range than phaseblades. Zerkers we also superior in pvp for this reason.
Also, Botd is MUCH cheaper than grief right now. A Lo rune is 3x the price of Zod, going dual grief is expensive. Further Botd is a great source of leeches and the damage is comparable for OH.
Death is good, but it’s more for frenzy Barb and Ubers.
