Gamebreaking Bug: Auras from Items turning on/off

Hello there.

Auras from Items, including endgame runewords are completely bugged. The issues vary from mildly-annoying to bricking the Runeword’s appeal completely. Below I’ll talk about Dream and Dragon RWs:

  1. Dream Runeword and Holy Shock aura:

Last week I put together a Dream runeword for my Zealot. The Holy Shock aura keeps turning off for half a second (with the damage reduction clearly reflected on the character sheet) and switching back on. This happens like every 5-10 seconds. Added lightning damage to attacks is completely removed and the AoE lightning damage from the area is as well. This had led to some deaths in fights where I’d actually kill the monster with the Zeal strikes if the aura hadnt turned off.

I also have an Azurewrath equipped, and the Sanctuary aura behaves the same way.

Picking up items from the ground, interacting with them on the inventory (clicking) and/or dropping items to the ground also causes the auras to turn off in a somewhat predictable pattern as well.

Everytime the auras “turn on” again, they’ll make their skill sound, and the sounds stack. So you can imagine how it feels after a while…

  1. Dragon Runeword, Holy Fire Aura and Hydra Proc (CTC):

The aura behaves in pretty much the same pattern, turning on and off at random and on a predictable pattern when clicking any item, anywhere, anytime.

The greatest problem here is that Hydras that spawn are DE-spawned at random. Sometimes they’ll spawn and before even firing their first volley, they’ll disappear, others will last 2 seconds, others 5 seconds, some will last the for whole duration (default 10 seconds).

Now, I’m unsure if the Hydra’s de-spawning problem is related to Auras’ issue, as I’ve found google results for inconsistent Hydra despawns. So this one might be a legacy bug made worse with whatever bricking inventory/items/auras interaction.

There seems to be some relation between engaging in combat and hydras despawning, for after some testing, it seems that I stop attacking enemies, most hydras tend to last their full duration.

Would greatly appreciate fixes.

I noticed this when gambling with Edge runewords…idk what is going on exactly but the thorns aura sound keeps playing every second or two, which upon reading your post, I now realize to be the aura turning on and off repeatedly. Definitely needs to be fixed asap.

Bumping to bring more attention to this as I personally am still encountering this as of 11/06/21

Not sure why this thread isn’t getting more attention. This is a pretty serious issue.

Yeah I’m having the same issue with my Lawbringer RW on my barb. I thought at first that it was just an audio bug but after looking a little closer I’ve noticed that I don’t get health/mana from the sanctuary aura until after I’ve heard the sound again.

Same here. Again with Dream on my Tesla

Because aura’s in this game do not work like PoE aura’s. They turn off and on as they cycle through aura’s. A single aura will turn on and off, this is how it works.

" A single target may be affected by more than one different Aura, though only one graphic will show at a time (the graphics will alternate). Same Auras will not stack, a weaker one being suppressed."

" An Aura is a semi-Passive skill, in that it usually requires no Mana although Prayer drains Mana over time while active, and can be kept on as long as possible. In return, Aura is only active while focused, occupying the RMB skill slot, and is dropped immediately when switched. Only one Aura of any type can be active per Paladin at a time."

" Some Auras provide a minor passive bonus when inactive; an example may be Resist Fire, which still increases the maximum, not current Fire resistance by half of usual value even when turned off or replaced with a different Aura. Many Auras also synergize with other skills, enhancing the Paladin’s attacks even when turned off."

“A single caster can only have one Aura active at a time. However, auras different that the skill-granted one, granted by items will be active even if item wielder has another Aura. If multiple items grant the same Aura, it will be active as a single one, with levels combined.”

Aucuba, I appreciate the insights provided by your post but it only subverts the OP’s point: there’s an audio bug, and potentially a far more serious issue that may be hindering Auras’ performances.

I’ve made a Lawbringer and it’s wielded by my barb. Audio for the aura restarts about every 3 seconds. I have to weapon swap anytime I’m in town. So obnoxious. I have no other auras.

I was using lawbringer and didnt experience anything like that.

Count yourself lucky/blessed then

There must be some character trigger for this bug, as I’ve seen plenty of people using RW granted auras with no issues, but all my characters have the issue, it happens with Insight and Harmony too. When wielded by a merc there is no issue and the auras are constant.

And it’s not just audio, the aura effect turns on and off as well, even if it is the only aura used, and not stacked with other auras.

This bug has been around since release. I’ve stopped using any equipment granting auras except for mercs. It sucks, the builds I wanted to do are completely broken.

because it’s in general discussion instead of the bug report forum.

not to downplay it, i’m noticing the same thing on my characters. the meditation aura from insight turns on and off constantly when i have it equipped. i didn’t realize that’s what it was, but reading this post, now i see

There have been multiple threads made in the bug reports, none of which have seen any attention aside from those affected by the bug.

RIP Tesladins and melee sorc. This bug needs to be fixed asap !!!

Bumping for visibility

The character trigger is picking up an item on your mouse pointer. Give it a whirl. Open inventory, tooltip a piece of random unequipped gear and click to lock to pointer > item aura disables. Click to drop back in inventory > item aura reenables.

It’s already been answered. You can’t have multiple auras on. If you have two items giving two separate auras they will keep trying to override each other. No need to bump this thread.

I second that, happens all the time gambling with Edge, kinda annyoing, sounds comming on/off all the time

  1. that’s not the case in OG D2
  2. the bug happens even with a single aura
  3. definitely a need to bump the thread

That is the case in OG D2. You are mistaken.
