Feature request: Unrestricted Respec Option or Toggle

Blizzard,

Please consider adding unrestricted respecs to D2: Resurrected as an option that can toggled or activated in the options menu, or before starting a new character.

I think being able to change your build without restrictions or jumping through hoops was one of the few things that Diablo 3 really got right.

It also makes sense with limited character slots; Do I really have to level up a new Amazon, or go farm a Token of Absolution every time I want to try a different skill set and different pieces of gear? I’m in my late 30s now, and don’t have as much time to dedicate to playing tens of different characters or trying to find someone to help powerlevel me.

Unrestricted respecs will allow for more build diversity and experimentation, and will lead to more fun. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to make this game my job.

I understand that a lot of players want a ā€˜pure’ and unchanged Diablo 2 experience, but holding onto this pointless thing is silly in the year 2021. There is nothing inherently difficult or challenging about rerolling a new character because you misallocated some points or changed your mind. It is just a time sink, or a chore you have to perform before you can continue having fun. Why gate it behind some needless busy work?

Choices in games are always good; they allow for player accessibility and allow players to tweak games to suit their needs or tastes.

If players do not wish to use such a feature then they wouldn’t have to. Making this a feature that can be toggled/activated is a reasonable solution that should please everyone.

Please reconsider allowing unrestricted respecs as an optional feature for the players who want it. I really don’t understand why some players are obsessed with limiting this choice for others.

It completely makes sense as a QoL option.

The game already has infinite respecs.

Really? As in, not having to farm up and craft Tokens of Absolution?

1 per difficulty and then the token as you say. If you just start playing some mf runs you will have a lot of tokens.

Yeah, that’s not what I’m talking about at all.

Tokens are the weeeey

Why though? Why shouldn’t you be able to just freely respec whenever you want to try something different?

It’s the D2 weeeeey

That can be the 3rd option when creating a character. If they want to add mlre to the game.

Classic
LOD
D2R

Feel free to toss me some tokens then bro.

PLEASE DO. OP is so right.
D2 is great but not being able to have fun and experiment without spending time to farm is just sad.

You are totally right, and I support the unlimited respec. Maybe it could take the form of a success, cosmetic, for those staying on the ā€œpureā€ diablo II path.

For me, the game is definitely better if I could respec much easier. With 3 respec only, there is no space to learn and discover the game. Either you take a viable build that will allow you to farm token of absolution before you run out of respec, or your character is doomed.

I want unlimited respec too.

Just checked the rarity of token, I heard that the drop rate is around 10% per boss. Doesn’t seem to me like a lot. Add to that that you need to have a sufficiently viable build to be able to farm token in the first place !

maybe, i know this might sound absurd, crazy even…

how about you ā€œplan your buildā€

are you unable to comprehend ā€˜synergies’?
the character building is pretty easy, pal.

maybe d3 is more for you.

Sure, why not? As long as they don’t gate playable content behind it.

If people want something cosmetic for bragging rights then I think that’s a reasonable trade.

No, I comprehend how to build characters just fine. This is a 20 year old game, and I played it extensively in my youth. This an entertainment product designed for people to enjoy themselves. It’s nothing complicated and fairly straightforward once you get the hang of things.

Sometimes I just want to switch it up, play different builds, or try different skills and experiment a bit. Sometimes I want to do something niche and odd, like a melee sorceress.

If you think that suggesting that I go play Diablo 3 is some kind of insult, then I don’t follow or don’t care. Diablo 3 is a good game in its own right and I can play either if I should choose to do so (I do). I played that game extensively too when it launched for multiple years.

I like both. Each game has its own strengths and weakness and both are pretty enjoyable.

Let me ask why it’s so important to you that I am not able to respec freely whenever I feel like it? What does it matter to you?

Does it alter your enjoyment of they game if I do?

Why do you care so much?

Why do you want to police how I am playing the game, or how anyone else plays the game?

Why must I always follow a plan, and create carbon copy cookie cutter builds like everyone else? Sometimes I just want to try different ideas.

Just let me play and have fun, and you play and have fun. How does it affect you in any way whatsoever?

Well, maybe not an option, but a way for people to grind on normal and nightmare for respecs too at the least. I think that would be a better option, no? The old way is still in but its expanded and you can get a good feel for your build before heading into nightmare. But once in Nightmare, you have the one Respec and have to beat it before getting the option in Nightmare to grind for it. I feel thats pretty fair???

Go back to D3 if you don’t understand and dislike the concept of D2 man.

The Toxicity of these comments are uncanny. D2 is a very flawed and outdated game. I don’t understand the praise it gets. It was good for its time in the 2000s but now? Doubt it.

I try to be rational.
I felt that i would invest less in a character if i can respec freely.
I know the is convenience and you can try all sort of thing but D2 is build differently.
The game itself is not long span through the 3 difficulty, and if someone would powerlevel you, you can reach somewhere midpoint easily. So respec is really not necessary.

And you love your character more with a certain build, rather than having a character that can be any build at anytime.

Hope it make sense
