Nobody is forcing them to play in a public lobby without a password. You open your game to the world, you are inviting people that are very different from you. And that’s a fact of life you’re just going to have to get comfortable with.
Odd, I play games to escape real-life. I suspect that vast majority of players do. I deal with enough toxic losers IRL. No need that toxicity needs to follow me into my virtual, gaming world…
It’s been a feature of the game for the past 20 years. I think it’s safe to say that people are fine with it being in the game, and the only ones that aren’t are the vocal minority that are hype-train riders from the Age of Entitlement.
Who cares? Was it a good part of the game? There are lots of things that have existed for 20 years that should not be preserved because they are not good.
Yes it’s meant to be the Dark Ages. That’s also the intention of the game itself. Heroes of sanctuary can be corrupted as in the story relations to the Dark Wander, Blood Raven and the Summoner.
Why should I be forced to do this - especially if MP fits the current needs of my character. Baal runs, love 'em or hate 'em, are the basic end-game for D2.
Allowing some jerk to unilaterally destroy a good Baal run without my consent is bad design.
True, it’s been part of the game for 20 years. But, it was a terrible feature then, as it’s a terrible feature now.
You guys need to think of pkers as a form of ‘bonus challenge’ or ‘uber boss’, the gameplay of d2 has never been super challenging(you can basically beat the game with a welfare summon necro), the pvp/pking is what kept the game alive.
It’s a dark and dangerous world, and sometimes the biggest threats aren’t the monsters. They’re other players. It’s a lot like real life when you think about it, every now and then some psycho will start taking ears, do YOU have what it takes to stop him? D2 is unique in how it basically lets you play as a hero or a villain, and I would hate to see it go all LOW T like D3.
The players are forced to fight back (or be a town coward), already when they pressed “join battlenet” - this is how diablo 2 game works. These are game rules.
There already IS consent based PVP in D2. If you don’t want to fight the guy, you make a tp and go to town. He can’t kill you there. By staying outside of the town, you’re agreeing to fight the guy.
That assumes a fact not in evidence. You have no idea how many people agree or disagree with me. And who cares what longtime D2 fans think.
I paid the same amount for D2R as anyone. I have as much time invested as anyone with D2R. So, I also have as much say as anyone about it.
Unconsented PK’ing is a design that only appeals to the most anti-social, toxic part of the community. For more well-adjusted players, it’s the epitome of bad design, allowing no-life losers to unilaterally ruin the fun of everyone else.
Have you thought of having fun teaming up and trying to KILL the pker? It’s a bonus challenge against another human rather than AI monsters. Unless the pker is like 10+ levels above you all(which is solved by level restrictions) it should be a pretty fair fight 1 against all of you.
