End the Greifing and make PVP a mutual agreement

Do you think griefing was intended by the original D2/D2:LoD game designers? If so, may I suggest that you ask them. I strongly suspect that griefing was not intended.

PvP good
Griefing bad

If griefing was not intended, why would the rules for toggling on PVP be so loose? People didn’t whine so freaking much 20 years ago, and as someone who played for a long time, I actually enjoy the mechanic… And I only played hardcore.

IF someone toggles PVP? Open a TP and leave… or stay and fight. The only risk you have is if you’re standing by a waypoint or you’ve allied with them and they know your exact location. EVERYTHING is griefing now to the Blizzard fanboy. Grow a bit of a spine.

Imagine complaining about monopoly because one of the spots lands you in jail :frowning:

Yes or wait in town. So why should I have to interrupt my game time and set having fun aside to accommodate someone whose goal is to grief and hurt others?

If you don’t like the game, don’t play the game. Those are the defined sets of rules that we have ALL been playing with for 20 years. Also, I hope you play hardcore because I’m looking forward to pking you.

I only played battlenet D2/D2:LoD. However to act like we all have been playing with the same sets of rules with how popular the mod community is seems disingenuous.

You will never have that pleasure.

P.S. I think you just made my argument for me.

What does that mean? PKing has always been extremely prevalent.

This would be like saying that I shouldn’t use a card on you on Catan or any other board game because it has a negative impact on you and a positive impact on me. Why wouldn’t I kill you for your ear? How would that be making your argument for you? PKing is and has always been apart of this game.

Just because aa system has existed, it does not mean that system can not be improved. D2/D2:LoD has been frequently patched/updated.

I will not be lollygagging out and about if you hostile me. I will either return to town or quit the game.

Because the poor folks just can’t handle a single thing not going their way huh.

Maybe we should nerf bosses so they don’t accidentally kill players, that would be really inconvenient. Those toxic bosses! This needs to change!

That is a facetious argument. There is a difference between playing the game and being targeted by a griefer.

20 years of improvements and patches, and Blizzard didn’t cave to the whiney minority that’s wants this change. It seems they never intended to “improve this system” because there’s nothing to improve on after 20 years. Up until this very moment, I’ve never heard anyone whine about the rules of the game.

If you don’t like the game, don’t play the game. Why should the community have to suffer because a vocal minority wants changes to the game because they don’t want to play within the rules?

If you are being targeted by a griefer, then I would support adding a way to block someone from joining a game.

Not fundamentally changes how pvp works.

Edit: and yes, I was being facetious. Really smart of you to notice that.

Griefing? no. PKing? absolutely.

There were entire clans with hundreds of players in them for Diablo 1 Battle.net.

They wanted to recreate that madness of a dungeon crawler when any moment you could be smashed in the face with a fireball.

D2 already has safeguards that D1 didn’t have, in that you need to declare hostility in town.

I bought the collector’s edition of D2 on launch day. I like the game and am even playing the game this ladder season. I just know how it can improve.

That is correct. There is a difference.

Yeah, it’s such a “big part” of the game that the only official feature ever added by the developers was a toggle switch. PvP fanatics really like to BELIEVE it was a major part of the game, when in fact they are a niche of a niche of the playerbase.

Yes, and both of them involve surprising other players by smashing them in the face with a quick hostility and a fireball.

Really?

I never even liked pvp in diablo 2, but have you seen how dedicated the pvp crowd actually were?

Defend your point. Why isn’t this feature removed in 20 years? Why do ears exist? Your opinion sucks and isn’t based on anything.

PvP is fine. PK is fine. Griefing is not.

If you want to know why griefing was not removed, I do not know. You would need to ask Blizzard. I do know that Blizzard North and the original game directors/30 staff all left in the summer of 2003 so that may have had something to do with it. After they left, there was a significant reduction in patches, especially when Irvine took over.

Ears are a reward for those that PvP.

Define griefing for me because I doubt I agree. Blizzard North LEFT because they were resisting takeover by Vivendi. Something you should wish Blizzard proper had the balls to do… Have a spine to not be consumed by larger companies.
