WinXP was to computers as analogue was to audio devices.
Simple, straight forward and no complicated nonsense.
Gone are the days sadly.

It’s also full of security holes and extremely easily broken into. Of course it doesn’t help that the ATMs themselves are still almost entirely 32-bit hardware and slow as frozen molasses in the dead of winter. Navy Federal has some of the worst ones out there sadly. It’s why I’ll drive 50 miles just to deposit checks instead of dealing with their god awful partner networks.
I clung onto XP till the bitter end.
XP is what finally came out that was better than 98 for me. Also better than what windows turned into. And now i got 10 and its jus smartphone browser setup for a pc screen… but still rather not upgrade to 11.
I used Nlite to create an ultra compact XP install just to squeeze every ounce of that 3.5 gigabytes of RAM I could and disable all of the non-essential services to reduce CPU overhead… It used a whopping 90 megabytes of RAM after it booted, game ready. Had a disk image of it ready to deploy if problems developed.
Ironically I still have to use XP on my Mac Pro 1,1 so my grandpa can play the ancient Scrabble 2.0 game. The 1.0 disc doesn’t work with AMD drivers and the later versions he hates. Once my back is in better shape and I can put together my 9900k build, I’ll give him this computer. I think I found a way to get Scrabble up and running in Windows 10 thanks to the built in ISO mounting capabilities.
98 SE was great. WinME though was a bloody disaster. We’re talking Mac OS 8.1 levels of awful. I won’t touch Windows 11 though until we can return the Windows 10 taskbar and start menu functionality in full without modifying the system files.
Please for the love of all that is holy… i found a Jah rune two nights ago and hope it is still in my stash when I check tonight!
That is beautiful
XP is kind of defining in a way. It was the last operating system designed purely as enhancement for the customer experience. After that, and not only operating systems, things became more about how to exploit the customer and socially engineer the population.
As long as you didn’t move the rune today it should still be there. I’d wait a day or so for things to settle down though before logging back in (hopefully they don’t settle up Teal’c style).
Too true for the internet. Dont go gettin yourself alt+ctrl+dlted.
Looks like they made a smart decision to wait until mid April for patch 2.4. Can you imagine the forum if they rushed to get ladder out by the end of the month and all heck broke loose.
That was the ETA for if this maintenance worked out.
You’re just like the mainstream media man, I never once typed a sentence saying i’m trolling, you literally deleted words out of the quote to make your point… @MissCheetah
All this talk of XP… Cmon guys, the real GOAT was Win 2000 Pro. Where my fellow IT experts at??
Any update or idea when it will be back up? I haven’t seen any ETAs posted
