Diablo II: Resurrected, using VPN?

Will you get temp banned If you use any VPN while trying to connect to the battlenet like the older Diablo II ?

You from China? Otherwise you can join any server without the need for VPN

No,but I still wonder If it’s possible to use it? If you used it on Diablo II(2000) you got temp banned.

Better not risk it if you don’t know, $40 is not cheap

No. The modern Bnet infrastructure has no issues with VPNs. They are not “supported”, in that Blizz won’t help you get one working, but they are not prohibited.

Tech support will even suggest using one to test a different path to servers when looking into connection issues.

The one warning I will give you though, is that there are security systems in place such that if you look like you are jumping around the world, it can get your account locked until you change the password. Having an Authenticator on the account reduces the chances of that happening.

I once had Authenticator on my old phone, I changed phone but forgot to back up the code, so I kind of lose that account. Still can play D3 with that account but the rest is history. I have to make this account to play D2R instead. I don’t have good experience and feeling toward Authenticator.

All you have to do to get an old Auth removed is contact Support and submit your Govt issued ID to prove you are the registered account holder. If you can still play D3 with it then obviously you have access to it and can put in a ticket.

The problem with the other account of mine is that I used fake name and other information, because it was created mote than 10 years ago when I wasn’t mature and aware enough. No gov issued document can save that account I guess.

Same happened to me, but with FFXI. I was a young kid and entered a bunch of BS contact info then couldn’t remember it when trying to recover my account.

Well you could try, if you offer enough info like secret password, date where you played, some details about what credit card you used, games, buy dates, some friends, e-mail and stuff like that. Makes a bit easier, at least on the past a friend of mine recovered his doing so, so the first step of him was add his ID and update his secret.

Not sure about these days, but several older accounts didn’t had much requirements, but with enough data from it you could get access again, wouldn’t be fast but doable. I think they even had phone number that you could talk with a person about it, but not sure what country or region you’re at.

Biggest issue for me was sometimes I use VPN for work, and forget to disconnect. And it doesn’t time out ever lol.

There are multiple uses of VPN in d2r than circumventing the great firewall or geo restrictions….for me if I need to see the game list in US i need to jump on the VPN. If someone from US is trying to help me in a NM or Hell game, I need to VPN to the US to create a game so they dont have a ping of 250+.

Plus, plenty of people these days just keep a VPN enabled at all times for basic Internet privacy reasons.

All the problems you said D2R can handle without VPN. You can switch to US server, create game and invite your friend, without using VPN at all. D2R is not regionlocked, at least not yet.

I guess you don’t know what you don’t know then. No offence there.

But basically, as I am playing from NZ, I play in the American region. It is only in this region that when I make a game, I am placed in a server located in Australia. This gives me ping less than 100. It doesn’t work in EU or Asia.

When I make a game in America, it can only be seen in the public game list by other oceanic players, vice versa.

Players who choose to play in the America region can still join my game, albeit they get high ping if they aren’t playing in the oceanic area.

Hope you have a bit more understanding now.

I do understand what I’m talking. I play mainly in Asia server but when my friends in the US are online I often turn off game, switch to the US server, create games and invite them over. Ping was definitely worse (150+ compared to below 50 in Asia server) but that’s that. It would be only me who had the high ping, not them. I guess your problem is because there are many subservers under Americas, I suppose.

Again, this is my own experience, can’t speak for everyone, so if you have problems that VPN can solve, at least check with Blizz for official reply. I won’t risk $40 for some trial and error over there.

You are a bit off. The America’s region has 3 data centers if not more. The ones I know of are West Coast US, Sydney AUS, and Brazil.

I will use D3 as an example. While the char/progress data is Americas level, you connect by default to the data center nearest to you and matchmaking is based on that data center.

So, Octopus is 100% right.

If you want I can give you an explanation of how to change data centers within the Americas for D3. It uses command line arguments.

Does not work in D2R though.

HOWEVER - in D3 you can force the game to change the data center within the America’s region. This is something the ANZ players are very familiar with.

Thanks for the elaboration. As I said, I mainly play in Asia, so switching from Asia to Americas server encounter no such problem. That’s why at first I didn’t understand the problem, until I realize that Americas server can actually be much larger than Asia server with many sublevel data centers and subservers, then that’s indeed a problem.

Windows system proxy or VPN? They are two different things .Former does not work for the game client.Latter make you disconnect. So it doesn’t matter. Will only change the ip of you login battlenet.

Some use translators.

I’m using Diablo 2 on nintendo switch and I live in China. What’s the best way to get a Nintendo switch connected to a VPN so I can get around the 30 day DRM BS? I bought a game which is unplayable in this country and yet it’s still listed in the Chinese store. NICE
