Deckard Cain does not identify items inside of Horadric Cube

Playing on PC. When I ask Cain to identify items, he only does so in my immediate inventory. I have to take out the items from the Horadric Cube in order for him to identify them.

I also hate this behavior and have to add that it wasn’t like this in vanilla D2. What makes it even worse is that when you drop the cube, to bring the items inside your inventory the fast way, you can’t grab the cube from the ground anymore till you close the ventor. It makes it so annoying to use the cube as a additional inventory.

this is not a bug, this has been this way since Blizzard North developed the game. This is how the game is suppose to work. The items in the cube are safe from being IDed.

Did you tried it in the old game? I remember it otherwise and my research brought some evidence about it. So did you actually tried it in the old game? I don’t own the old game anymore, so I can’t check it myself.

I can’t speak for every patch throughout the years, but I can absolutely say that I’ve tried this on the current live patch for legacy D2 and Cain absolutely does ID items inside the cube.

I was playing D2:LOD a week ago and Cain identified items in the cube as well.

Having him NOT identify items in the cube is just an inconvenience which adds an unnecessary time or gold cost to the gameplay loop.

Why bother commenting when you clearly have no idea what you are talking about?

According to Arreat Summit on the Horadric Cube page, “Items will be Identified by Cain while inside the Horadric Cube.”

Let’s put this issue to rest, shall we?

Proof that Deckard Cain Identified items in your Inventory AND the Horadric Cube in D2:LoD, compared to NOT Identifying items in the Horadric Cube in D2:R:

Please allow Cain to Identify ALL our items in D2:R. (Except those in our Stash).

Seconding.
Deckard Cain should identify the items in the cube.

I don’t understand why this is controversial. The original D2 ALWAYS had Cain ID items in the cube.

Absolutely, please, make Cain be able to do this again. D2R is great for me so far, only few annoyances, but this is one of them for sure.

This is still bugged after 2.4 unfortunately. Please please fix this, Cain needs to ID stuff in the cube.

Also Cain should be moved near the stash in Act 5 like he is in original D2 Bnet, in D2R he is still next to Qual-Kekh on both Bnet and single player.

This is no bug. It was a bug in LOD that he could ident items in the cube.

Don’t be ridiculous. Even if it were a bug (which it isn’t), 99% of people want Cain to ID items in the cube.

Ah and when some players want something it must be a bug. Okay .

Why do you not want Cain to ID stuff in the cube? You’re arguing against basic functionality that’s been in the original game since 1.00 release.

That is patently false. It has never been stated that it was a bug that Cain identified items in the cube. The issue is that Cain does not have the basic functionality of LOD Cain.

Also, because D2R is using the wrong maps for Harrogath for multiplayer, Cain is in the wrong location in Act V. This also needs to be fixed.

This is still an issue after today’s patch. Please fix this, it’s a huge piece of QoL functionality that’s missing in D2R compared to original D2.

This is still an issue after today’s maintenance. This is a significant decline in functionality compared to original D2, please cure Cain’s dementia so that he remembers to identify items in the cube.

Yes, completely agreed. This have got to be the most annoying issue in D2R. Are the developers that incompetent?
