It’s in a great spot right now. I love it to be the best armor in the game (since it’s the hardest to get by). But should not surpass anything by miles…

We want alternatives not new metas :sweat_smile:

A topic of it´s own. I agree with all your changes, but would like to go through the sets in exspecially increase 2 and 3 piece set bonuses for several set (shiftig from full set bonuses to partial set-bonus primarily). Elite should be a bit more viable like full Tals. But that would be a starting point if they follow your propositions!

SUPERIOR WEAPONS

To help melee characters with the new Terror Zones, I urge the developers to consider making an adjustment to Superior Weapons. Instead of them rolling with a laughable attack rating of +1 to +3, they should roll akin to the affixes shown below and appropiate with the item’s level:

Repair Cost
They should also consider lowering the repair costs for Superior Weapons and Armor, as they can be exorbitantly high in some instances.

So, I hope the others are not shy to go through most of these 400+ items (suggest you go through class by class :slight_smile: ). I´ll present my top lists. After we collect maybe a representative collection we should start to think about how to increase likelyhood of that beeing happen…

My overall target would be to increase build diversity. Our final list will help tremendously, I still think the easiest way is by nerfing some OP (for the given prices) runewords.

  • Grief: Although melee already falls behind, rather then keeping one op item they should buff underlying mechanics. E.g. increase AR by every new level by XX% and increase dmg the same way every level. Grief could be nerfed with the flat dmg by -100 (easy to implement, easy to convert existing items and perfect, expensive ones would stay perfect).

  • Enigma: Arguably the best armor mainly because of teleport, but overall super strong. Nerfing rolls would be a good choice but might result in the need of a char reskill (thus needed to change every char and grant an Acara reskill in normal if not used). I suggest only to cut back from +2 Skills to only +1 Skill (lifting CoH at the same time to a more viable position).

  • Spirit: Most common shield in the game and even the sword for the given price. I would cut as well +2 skills to only +1 skill. Easy to implement, still super strong with the high fcr, mana and res.

At the same time they could buff Chains of Honor a tiny bit to make it (as an also expensive choice) a bit more competetive. But most probably not needed with the above nerfs and the improved uniques.

That beeing said my top 5 unique classes I would like to see buffed (if TT/Blizz will follow a by class approach):

1. Elite Armors
2. Exeptional Armors
3. Rings and Amulets (already ok, but would be so much better and diverse)
4. Elite Swords
5. Exceptional Bows

Helmets, Belts, Gloves and Boots are already better tuned with our input, but they still are ok now and diversity is higher then with other classes. But thats maybe for several patches later.

To many I would wish to see reworked. But if I have to choose, here´s my very personal top 10 iteme list (I tried to incorporate reasoning what CharlesJT could add in the op later, if we have a common list created).

  1. Tyrael’s Might
    Reasoning: If the sacred armor of Tyrael himselfe can be found in a players lifetime and du to it´s rarety it should be no question to use it. Even a bad roll over the high RWs. The forces of the light will use it devine powers to overcome the dard hordes.
    Convert existing items: Additions are made and rolled (like salvation aura). All res simply exchanged for plr. ED ist increased by 33%. Dmg to demons ist increased by x2,5 but with min. of 200%. This item needs to be a solid :green_circle: choice!

  2. Arkaine’s Valor
    Reasoning: The nature of this treasure is shrouded in speculation, my friend, but it is said that the ancient hero Arkaine placed the holy armor Valor in a secret vault. Arkaine was the first mortal to turn the tide of the Sin War and chase the Legions of Darkness back to the Burning Hells. So needs to be good right?
    Convert existing items: Easy

  3. Templar’s Might
    Reasoning: A paladin focussed alternative which adds a might aura (to lower the need for an A2 merc and adds more to offensive auras then to all skills). Since it´s very rare it should be clear choice to use it somehow.
    Convert existing items: Add +5 strength, +1 offensive auras become +2, +2 becomes +4 (no +3 for existing items). Since it´s currently never used it could be completely rerolled as well.

  4. Leviathan
    Reasoning: Leviathan, beeing a big sea and wind monster can deliver massive damage and take massive damage. A beast of great strength and power with a water and wind based theme.
    Convert existing items: Easy

  5. The Grandfather
    Reasoning: An iconic weapon of the old days. Not even buffed for nostalgy, buffed to be an notably addition to the weaker melee classes and offer an alternative to op grief. Given the rarety every Grandfather should find use (we wish, that the Act 5 frenzy merc could wield two-handers).
    Convert existing items: Easy, ED +100% to the existing value. OS must roll. A 250% ED version should roll 3 OS.

  6. Azurewrath
    Reasoning: Blessed by the Song of the Arch to be an instrument of the righteous, it was wielded by the angel Izual prior to his failed assault on the Hellforge.
    Convert existing items: Easy. +skills needs to roll, damage to demons as well. Add the rest and keep existing.

  7. Eaglehorn
    Reasoning: To offer a competitive alternative to a Windforce, Ice, Mist or Faith Bow. We buffed, along with many others, this unique bow.
    Convert existing items: Add new affixes an reroll those, Reroll +skills

  8. Lidless Wall
    Reasoning: Offering a very viable but affordable alternativ to the also affordable default spirit shield. Solving most mana problems disengaging the commond insight Act 2 merc.
    Convert existing items: Reroll Skills, Mana after kill +2, reroll fcr.

  9. Rune Master
    Reasoning: The 3-5 OS offers a vast variety of builds. The Buffs make it very viable to add precious runes and jewels to customize and support various builds (if you find a 5 OS one). With the buffs it´ll be used in far mode builds then with the present state.
    Convert existing items: Easy

  10. Lightsabre
    Reasoning: To offer a decent mid-level and maybe end-game sword with elemental damage to overcome physical immunes, we would like to see this unique to put, along with almost all other, to be viable.
    Convert existing items: Easy

This actually falls right into the issue I was trying to avoid: superior items are already fairly rare. When a superior weapon drops, it currently has a 1 in 6 chance to have both % Enhanced Damage and + Attack Rating. This is because the current superior affix table looks like this:

There are 6 affixes available for superior weapons (5 specific to weapons, 1 for both weapons and armor). Supposing you roll the 1 that provides dmg% (% enhanced damage) and att (attack rating), you then have a 1 in 3 chance for the attack rating to roll the maximum value.

Making a new series of ranges like what you posted +41-60, +61-80, +81-100, etc.) makes the probabilities much, much worse for perfectionists.

The solution I propose is to have the non-attack rating affixes appear multiple times in the file (i.e. multiple identical rows for e.g. ac% with the same min and max values). Then, instead of having the attack rating rows be identical, have them use the different values, e.g. 10, 25, 50. This would make the odds for a superior weapon with any value of attack rating be the same as current (1 in 3 for attack rating, 1 in 6 for both attack rating and enhanced damage) but make it so within that 1 in 3 or 1 in 6, there are then 5 possible values instead of 3 possible values: {10,25,50,100,200} instead of {1,2,3}. 1 in 5 is still less likely than 1 in 3 for a perfect roll, but it’s much better than e.g. 1 in 50 (251-300).

However, where both my suggestion and what you wrote get slightly messy is they would really be better off with an ilvl restriction (acting more like magic affixes). This would be ideal to prevent a +200 attack rating item dropping in e.g. the Blood Moor. But that would require recoding how superior items roll almost from the ground up.

Nice list :ok_hand:. I think Shadowfang deserves a complete reroll as well (just like Azurewrath had one). It should have been an end game unique along with Azurewrath.

The devs slept on the lore on this game. They could have emphasized more items from D1 such as The Butchers Cleaver (where’s the bloody axe?), and The Undead Crown.

This is as concise as I can make it. The first column can be ignored and wouldn’t actually be part of the proposed .txt file edit. It’s just the row numbers since I typed it up in google sheets and saved it as html to get the table to be able to post to the forums. Here´s my personal Top Ten list for revamping uniques…

  1. Tyrael’s Might - rarest item in the game, named after the Archangel of Justice.

  2. Arkaine’s Valor - ancient hero Arkaine who turned the tide of the Sin War and drove demons back to Burning Hells.

  3. Mang Songs’ Lesson - extremely rare item, having Asian-themed name.

  4. The Grandfather - iconic legendary sword that harkens back to good ole days of Diablo II.

  5. The Cranium Basher - mighty thunder maul of Thor. Enough said.

  6. Azurewrath - created by Tyrael and wielded by Izual during the assault on Hellforge to delay forging of Shadowfang.

  7. Shadowfang - originally part of a quest from pre-release Diablo, where player was tasked to slay demon Fleshdoom and retrieve his demonblade.

  8. Spire of Lazarus - named after Archbishop Lazarus and was an ambassador from the Zakarum Church and advisor to King Leoric.

  9. Schaefer’s Hammer - named after Max and Erich Schaefer, two of the four creators of Diablo and heavily involved in Diablo II development.

  10. Messerschmidt’s Reaver - nostagic axe that prince Aidan used to slay Diablo in classic Diablo.

This was the axe that prince Aidan used to slay Diablo in Diablo 1. It’s a shame the stats aren’t godlike for that reason alone.

Diablo 1 makes it look like a godly weapon.

It looks sick in game in D2R. That should definitely be an end game unique.

I was thinking keeping it level 70, add small amount of CB (less than Executioner’s Justice), add healthy amount of OW, already has 17% critical strike through axe mastery, buff all attributes and ED closer to BoTD, and remove the fire damage as that is already on Hellslayer. What do you guys think?..

Mine is similar to Charles, priortizing lore, nostalgia, and rarity.

I think these item types deserve more significance:

Steel Pillar and Stormspire are both TC87.

I think 2% chance to cast anything is a little ridiculous, especially when level 20 Charged Bolt is does peanuts worth of damage.

Giant Thresher suggests a deadly long range weapon.

Actually I see you guys have this in the OP. I’ll take a look at it.
