Honestly, if there was anything I’d change about Wizardspike it wouldn’t be adding more resistances, it’d be adding Teleport charges. Level 6 Teleport (52/52). It’d help out the Warcry Barbarians a bit. Might work as an interesting Poison Dagger Necromancer (combine it with Trangs?).

Or maybe +1 to Cyclone Armor as an O-skill? That would appeal more to Sorceresses who prioritize defense over dps.

Here’s the Eth Grandfather, 3 sockets, 20%hp, 250 - 300%ED.

Even with Eth and 60% CB from 3 bers it’s pretty weak. Adding somewhere between 45%-55% crushing blow sounds reasonable to me.

Thanks for testing! Maybe we did not go far enough to make Grandfather viable. Could you test 3-5 Open Sockets (instead of 1-3)?..

Here’s a second test (Enigma, steel rends, gore riders, highlords). I put in Ber, Ohm, Ohm this time.

I forgot the whole point of the buffs was to find perfect rolls that would have the potential to be just as good or even better than some runewords (for certain builds), which would motivate diehard Barb players to socket HRs just to use it as an aesthetic trophy item (at the very least).

Rolling 1-3 sockets and getting near perfect ED was ridiculously hard (I was using a cube recipe to roll the item).

So therefor, I would suggest that this item roll between 300-400ED, and (or) 35% CB, 1-3 open sockets.

We can see in this video that Grief is multi-purpose and it’s potential with Bezerk just out performs the GF tenfold.

It just makes sense that a two hander elite colosses blade be a power house that has the potential to wipe out P1 monsters with just 1 drive by (on full build).

We can try 3-5 open sockets, but that would be forcing the player to spend 3-5 times the price of a Grief just to come close to its power.

What are your thoughts?

I definitely agree with you that a 2H elite colossus blade should be a power house in its own right. With the proposed buffs below, I added 25% CB and increased ED to +250-350% while keeping 1-3 open sockets. Can you please test to see if it feels right for the GF?..

That’s more like it. This is in a very balanced state. It’s on par or slightly better than Grief when it comes to Whirlwind.

I tested both dual wielded and single handed. Single handed isn’t bad at all and looks more visually appealing.

It’s worth remembering that you have to roll: Ethereal, 3 sockets, and a good ED which I think is extremely hard to do. If it’s not Ethereal, it’s Charsi’d. If it’s Ethereal and 2 sockets, I guess you would keep it, so that would make finding 3os, eth a godly find.

What do you guys think. Is that a good baseline for some wiggle room?

Either way, this would do great things for the trade economy and add some more of that OG atmosphere back into the game.

That’s awesome to hear the proposed buffs to GF would put it in a balanced state. Just wanted to point out that GF would always roll indestructible and ethereal. You would have to find one with 3os and max roll on ED to get godly find. I’ll go ahead and update OP.

Hmm… Holy Fire Aura is already available on Hand of Justice at roughly the same level, and it’s just better in so many ways that I don’t think this change would help this item see much use. How about instead add -10% Enemy Fire Resistance (which helps support the existing Fire Damage) and add +1 Whirlwind as an O-skill. The Ataghan base brings up images of a whirling dervish type fighter, so I was thinking Whirlwind, which also works well with the mana leech on the sword. It would be something for an Enchantress to use?

I tend to feel Lightsabre is already decent, so I’d rather add to the Jedi feel of it by giving +1 Telekinesis as an O-skill and 20% Chance to Cast Level 5 Slow Missiles when Struck.

Would +1 Charge be out of place?

How about instead of increasing the FRW we give it Grant Level 6 Vigor Aura When Equipped? And instead of increasing the ED give it Grant Level 3 Fanaticism When Equipped? Both of those fit the theme very well (Fear Puking - a reference to military training so hard it makes you puke), and it would make it useful sword for Barbarians and Shapeshifters, but especially for the Bash Barbarian merc. Much less Fanatacism than you get with a Faith bow, and less Vigor than you get with a Harmony bow, but very useful combined and available on a tanky merc instead of the Act 1 rogue. Maybe reduce the ED by 40% so that the ED with Level 3 Fanatacism comes out as ~240%. Not super powerful compared to higher level auras, but useful.

What’s the goal for Mang Songs? Death’s Fathom + Spirit actually beats Mang Song by 1K damage while including more resistances, defense, blocking, and 5% faster cast rate.

Aside from +skill what else could it have for a little damage boost?

The staff is a golden skull with red gems for eyes, is there anything it can borrow from Necro to give it some extra fire power?

I think other classes should be encouraged to use it as well, so it’s not just another item for Sorceress.

Well, Mang Song could easily be used by a Fire Druid. The design is focused around Fire/Lightning/Cold damage and as such that it really doesn’t suit an Amazon, Assassin (due to Traps not working with -Enemy Resistances), Barbarian, or Necromancer. I guess something like a Holy Shock Charge Paladin might find it useful, but such off meta builds aren’t going to be common. I think it’s appropriate for this to be focused primarily on the Sorceress and Druid. Both of those characters fit thematically with a magic staff very well.

I don’t think Mang Song should replace Death’s Fathom for Cold Sorceress as best in slot. Considering the multiple damage types supported on the item, I’d suggest it being best in slot for a Hybrid Sorceress build.

If we were to pick anything from the Necromancer spell tree it would be Lower Resist to help out. As an O-skill it’d be too powerful though. Maybe Level 7 Lower Resist charges? That’s -51% so it can break quite a few Immune monsters without the need for a Sunder charm. That then works with the minus Enemy Resistances on the staff. With Sunder charms being available that’s actually not much of a power boost at all considering the rarity of the staff. But a Hybrid Sorceress could get a lot of use out of it, instead of needing to carry multiple Sunder charms. It would also make it a lot more attractive for a Fire Druid.

That would be my suggestion for Mang Song if it still needs a little boost beyond the better Faster Cast and +skills. Add Level 7 Lower Resist (80/80 Charges). That would also make it useful for a Trap Assassin, but probably not enough to be best in slot for them.

I guess if we wanted to target it at a Druid as well as a Sorceress… maybe add -15% to Enemy Physical Resistance in addition to the elemental resistances? That would make it very valuable for a Wind Druid or a Singer Barb, and again improve its use case for a Fire Druid.

Perfect, I think that’s a great take on it.

Notice the feather strings hanging off. It fits the dark magic theme well.

I also like the -15% physical resist, that would be great.

Agreed. I like adding -15% to Enemy Physical Resist along with LR charges. How about changing -enemy elemental resist to -15% across the board (except cold obviously) as shown below to make a better use case for Wind Druid, Fire Druid and Singer Barb as mentioned before…

Yeah that’s probably a good idea, it’s a hard item to find as it is, there’s no need for it to roll other than the skills.

I’ve always disliked Singer Barbs for some reason, but if they were to use Mang Songs as a potential BIS weapon, I would have to consider making one myself.
