All characters disappeared when I restarted the game what is going on?
My level 70 Sorc disappeared as well…
Same thing just happened to me. I selected a character, went to join a game, then got an error about my character not existing. After returning to character selection, all of my online characters were gone.
Hopefully you get them back after the server update; however if they are still gone after the server update then fair chance they are just gone. Here is what blizzard told me about missing items/characters.
Have you tried to create a new character? Does it appear on the list when created?
I saw in another post (that I now can’t find, of course) that the servers had gone down. My chars were missing about 8hrs ago but they’re showing again now. Hopefully it was just a connection issue and everyone’s characters are actually still there, they just weren’t visible.
Not particularly well handled by Blizzard though, I think. 1) Show an error that explains what’s going on rather than silently fail and give the wrong idea. 2) Tell everyone. Like, pinned post on the forums or even in the launcher saying "Sorry, servers are down, bear with us. Feel free to continue playing offline characters while we restore the online servers. " It’s not that hard to manage expectations and causes a lot less anguish.
